“For Shame…” - KiD CuDi’s Early Retirement Plans
AUDIO By TSSCrew on March 17, 2009 at 7:17 pmWords By Jesse H.
The Game, Saigon, Lupe Fiasco and now Kid Cudi.
Yep, according to a spelling-challenged message from the artist himself, he’s had enough. But what else is new? He’s just the latest in a line of rappers taking a childish “me first” approach to putting themselves above the game.
Is it just me or does this annoying trend in Hip-Hop annoy the sh*t out of anybody else? Seriously, how conceited do you have to be to establish a name for yourself in an industry where thousands adore you and want to hear YOUR voice…and then walk away?
Obviously, the industry is rife with backdoor politics (pause) and just shady dealings in general. But whining about it and acting like you’re above the culture is lazy, non-creative and unfair to your fanbase. Where’s the motivation to document and critique the ills of the business with your talent (which may I remind you, is NOT blogging) a la Tribe on “Show Business?” Tribe showed disdain for the greedy corporate side while simultaneously portraying their love for the culture by making a dope record. Tribe understood that above all, the culture of Hip-Hop came first. They understood that the fans held them to an expectation to make great music, regardless of industry politics.
But here we are in 2009 and that standard seems to have evaporated. The rappers listed above just don’t seem to understand that the culture needs to come first if we have any hope of saving Hip-Hop. The road to 5 Cigs starts with a meticulous process and these guys don’t seem to be taking their time to craft a body of music that is both thoughtful and meaningful. Instead, they choose to bitch and moan online when they should be seizing the opportunity to express their frustration with a well-executed musical criticism of the industry.
So, Cudi, I wish you well in whatever the hell else you’re planning to do with your life. How noble of you to cash in a well-paying job that brings you a flock of loving followers who adore your new take on a culture they appreciate. Yes, who really needs steady income and unyielding fan support in their lives? Let’s not even mention the extreme lack of class it takes to whine about being a self-admittedly rich, famous and respected rapper while we’re hurtling towards a 10% unemployment rate in this country.
IM SORRY TO THE FANS, IM SO SORRY YALL. I KNO U GUYS WILL ALL HATE ME, BUT REMEMBER, IM JUS A REGULAR DUDE WHO WAS GIVEN A AMAZING GIFT, AND NOW WITH THAT AMAZING GIFT CAME MORE UNCALLED FOR PROBLEMS THAN THE AVERAGE HUMAN BEING SHOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH.
*Sigh*

It’s a shame, but it puts a lot of pressure on him to make a dope album too
Kanye fathered a generation of the most emotional rappers ever.
These cats are starting to annoy me.
Excellent post. Middle finger to Kid Cudi and the rest of the kindergarten club members.
All the crying & whining in Hip-Hop is disgusting. Why would you bitch when you’re getting paid to do something you love?
It’s a shame, but it puts a lot of pressure on him to make a dope album too

We celebrated 8 million visits today.
With each of those visits, there’s a level of “pressure” to create something every single day. EVERY single day. I’m sure most can relate to their personal lives where there’s pressure daily - whether it be from a job, a spouse, other responsibilities.
But you don’t bitch up. You shut up, you bite your belt & you do what the fuck you have to do.
Well, I do. Can’t speak for everybody.
Most athlete’s don’t complain publicly (not all). Actors don’t complain and they deal with hate & haggling from all angles. Bill Gates doesn’t complain. If half these “artists” would stfu, stop walking that thin line that is the internutts & focus on making music, they’d be ok.
Mo’fucker is high on himself. Some humility and thankfulness would be good instead of this grade school bitchin’
Saigon was trying to get out of his deal, Lupe wants to give his artist the attention they deserve( he also gave us the cool)….the game is just bipolar
If half these “artists” would stfu, stop walking that thin line that is the internutts & focus on making music, they’d be ok.

Too many youtube videos. Not enough good music being made.
Dear Kid Cudi
Please find an actual talent before getting high on yourself.
thanks,
The management

And that’s going to be the mother of what he’ll now have to deal with as an artist. I wish him the best in the future, but he should know that this now will have heads anticipating that ABSOLUTE from him since it will be his only studio solo. I’m sure he will bring it though.

classic shit
bull shit to that statement. if hes serious w/it then good luck u dumb bitch.
In 7 years time, people will look back on the clothing fashions that are being sported by many of the current crop of noveau skool rappers, and think good gosh what on earth is he/she wearing? Just look at those glasses and that scarf and stripey purple top that he is wearing, truly woeful.
It is then that you will yearn for your FUBUs, Pelle Pelle, Avirex, Sir Benni Miles, PNB Nation etc etc.
It will come full cycle and a new crop shall emerge and say, hey yo fuck this man, why are they so emotional and going on about pressure and wot not? Let’s just go make fun music like Ill Al Skratch, Nice n Smooth and Blacksheep used to do.
They will be a jovial bunch indeed, and their music will also incorporate that sleigh bell sound that you got on those mid 90s beats, you know Extra P style.
IM JUS A REGULAR DUDE WHO WAS GIVEN A AMAZING GIFT

and that gift is?…..
Nigga please…

Freddie Foxxx needs to open a bootcamp and spend 2 weeks cracking the skulls of these scarf-wearing, whiny ass, pretentious new crop of so-called MC’s…
Seriously, where’s DMX when you need him? Could anyone put an end to this emo-rap fad quicker than X?
Cudi must think working @ Kinko’s is the BOMB!!
lol
I just hope B.O.B. & Curren$y don’t pull no shit like this. Speaking of Spitta are we gonna get a Mythblazers episode 4?
umm X did emo rap….its not a fad. Every body just joccin Texas without letting us get major exposure. Z-Ro & Trae make “emo rap”

“Maybe mothafuckas just too high on they stilts/
“But this one’s on me, ima view it as spilt milk”
^What he (Pusha? Or maybe Mal) said. The weak will die, the real multiply.
no money, mo problems.
Nah. X was emotional at times, but he was definitely not “emo-rap.”
Watch this and tell me that the man in the video would pen the same type of goodbye note as Kid Cudi:

Hell nah.
Fuck let him do what he wants to do… isn’t that what life’s all about.
What are ya’ll bitchin ’bout?
Yay..One less emo hipster rapper to deal with.
THAN THE AVERAGE HUMAN BEING SHOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH

problems, every buddy has problems. people who are getting laid off every day with kids to feed got problems. youre an artist. take your problems and put that shit into your lyrics, not just these “oh im sad” kanye BS lyrics, some real heartfelt shit. if you say your blessed with a “amazing gift” then why quit and keep that shit to your self. if you were blessed by whom ever you praise then he/they/she wanted you to put it out there for people to take notice. when pac got shot(1st time) on trial for rape, and heading to jail. did that fucker quit. naw he dropped MATW.
adversity builds character or struggle defines the man, or what ever. if not GTFO the game and let the buddens/ortiz/crooked’s of the game who have it in their heart step in and get their just do’s

He won’t retire, It’s just industry bullshit. Them trying to get him to sell his soul for the radio hit. When will industry people get it, the industry hits get to radio and sell a million records cause the art is pure in any other music style. Hip hop is so fake and that’s the problem. I like lots of singles, cause I’m a production buff, but you don’t have to sell out the artists in the meantime. Cudi his a new fresh sound that will do just fine if they let it flow. All the classics came with out compromise. I don’t think Outkast Aquemini could have come if LA Reid didn’t let them just make art. At the same time, In The Club was a hit cause(of a Dre beat) but cause it captured a part of the culture at the right time. Let Cudi be, obviously he has some good production behind him. The rest will come. I’m sure that’s why he is talking shit about retirement

I mean I’d get pushed over the edge if somebody made me wear Reeboks too. That is, unless they were Dee Browns!
http://misterirrelevant.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/cardboard-icons-dee-brown.jpg
Those joints were too clean in pre school son.
why couldn’t he just wear some questions?
and DMX made emo rap just grittier. He wears his heart on his sleeve. most rappers have fragile egos. we just didn’t see it that much.
This dude needs to stop Ron Jeremy’ing himself The problem I have with some of these young dudes…..love (pause) the passion they show towards the music and wanting to be appreciated, but life in general is a marathon not a sprint. These dudes want to get to the finish line before running the race.
Put out an album….watch it brick….then go back to the lab to work out the problems.
Shout out to every muthafucka in these comments for not holding their tongue or “relating to his feelings.” Fucc the dumb shit.
Bitch-ass nigga. Go act then. Like there’s no drama in Hollywood.
whateva. ya’all believe these niggaz if you want.
it’s an ego-stroke. they want everybody to flood the net & beg ‘em to stay in the game, knowin damn well they’re gonna drop another album in the future. what else are they gonna do? once the groupie love & other benefits of fame dry up, they’ll be back.
this “tortured artist” shit is corny. most of these niggaz talk retirement before they’ve actually accomplished anything.
babypaw…i been missed all those clothing labels.
even the D boys is wearing weird shit…jeans with feminin oriental embroideries all down the motherfuckin legs and shit.
and when did niggas all start wanting to be chinks??
put some obsure japanese label on a extra medium t that looks like it was made out of a wet paper towel and sell it for the high.
im sure its rough but NONE OF THESE RAPPERS WHO SAY IT HAVE ACTUALLY DONE IT. they get one whiff of the real world and go running back to the studio talkin bout how they gonna save hip hop.
Damn, its some salty ass negroes in here. Geez. Yall need to calm down.
Niggas in here talkin bad about wearing scarves and shit…..shit is hillarious.
Agree with you 100%. I’m a designer and I hate my industry at times but I love Design. That’s what it’s gotta come down to. Well paying bills is motivation too.
Cudi just needs some cutty from a buddy (female I hope). In my opinion leaving when some people know you is kinda silly he’s acting like he’s put out a classic album, done it big in his career when he’s just small like alot of the come up artists…
I’m not taking away from dudes craft but he shouldn’t try and act as if - he gave everybody the best of himself when he really hasn’t reached his prime or broken the mold.
I think he’s just having one of those moments in life where his emotions are getting the best of him…and saying he wants to quit sounds and feels good to him…
However, if he did truthfully leave rap alone…I don’t think tons of people would be screaming: man I wish Cudi would come back…Lupe on the other would have some upset fans….
Anotha Time,
MaLLY
