Co-sign. Dude can still have a fruitful career if he stops fucking with mixtapes, straps in & cranks out a good album.
All I can say about ortiz is that he tries but for me he just doesnt have it. I always say to myself he isn’t bad but he just is on the verge of ok and somewhat annoying for me. Anyways, he is sooooooooo 2007. It wale and B.O.B who are gonna bethe overachievers of 2009
He’s successfully keeping my attention. All that other riggamarole aint my issue. If the nigga wants to spit raps & work @ Target w/Amil, so be it.
If the nigga wants to spit raps & work @ Target w/Amil, so be it.

Fuck around & he’ll be doing interviews from the Customer Service desk lol.

Damn, Amil stay losing.
^cosign.
Yeah man, I think Joell Ortiz is a beast on the mic, but I just can’t see dude blowing in this era and becoming a superstar.
i got faith in Joell to dig deep and come out with a near classic or ill album. and i aint sayin that just because he a latino brother and there aint too many ill latino emcees on the grind like Joell. i think if cats stay patient we will all see the fruits of his labor, most cats aint givin him his just due.
and if he does slip, maybe he can hook me up with a discount at target since i cant find amil.
Fuck that. Joell is that dude.
Although I agree this cat is prolly not gon’ move any significant units, I believe Joell ain’t the problem, the audience is.
Way too much stock placed in “other shit” that don’t mean shit.
IMO, what dude needs to do is go rogue… make unofficial guest appearances all over the place to outshine cats on their own shit…maybe “remake” remixes to get some spins in in the clubs…
The ’90’s stuff is cool, but it’s gonna go past a lot of the younger heads..
Whatever the case, this is damn near the ‘roids era in baseball as far as lyricism goes….
J.O. I’m Liking this
Although I agree this cat is prolly not gon’ move any significant units, I believe Joell ain’t the problem, the audience is.

I believe Budden addressed this whole idea. 50 got fans infatuated with numbers.
Sure, neither he nor Ortiz may drop a classic album. But if these niglets drop 50 hot songs, does that discredit them? That’s like saying I won’t remember Dominique or Barkley even though they never won rings.
If the nigga wants to spit raps & work @ Target w/Amil, so be it.

Whoa!!!! Time out…. Amil works at Target?!!! Damn recession.
Whatever the case, this is damn near the ‘roids era in baseball as far as lyricism goes…
^
To clarify…
Meaning this era’s gonna appear for the most part hollow as time passes.
Honestly, I don’t give a fuck if he blows up or sells any CDs. Why is that shit so important to Hip-Hop fans?? You think rock fans or jazz fans are concerned about how many units they favorite artist move? I’mma fan of dude and all I care about is hearing him rap. As long as he keeps doing that, I’m good. He got enough of a following that will allow him to sell enough tickets at venues to feed himself. All he has to do is keep shredding any and every microphone thats put in front of him. Fuck if he’s stuck in the 90’s. At least he’s making music he loves. I guess yall want him to start singing on Autotune. On the real, I just think he might be too NY for some heads.
Also the thing with Ortiz is that he’s JUST a rapper. He’s a beast of a rapper, but that’s all he is. No clothing line, no gaudy chains, no Hummers, champagne and bitches in the video, no beefs with other rappers, no starting his own label, no gimmicks. All he do is spit.
eh, my 2 cents.
I don’t see him being a successfull, crossover “success” Though, I love him, as many do. Finally, a lyricist with lyrics, substnance, delivery and charisma (eh-swag). He’s a good example, how much have you heard via his album (bodega chronicles) and how much via the web. And what makes ur decision.
@tres. cosign that man. it’s not how many units you move, it’s the quality of material you put out. if you look back at some of the classics they didnt move units either. hiphop err hip-pop has only been really moving units since the shinny suit era. if dude has to be like wayne/ross/50 to make it big, i’d rather have him keep doing what he has been and make stay underground.
Joell is that dude…He wrecks shit on the mic.
Look how long it took Joey Crack to blow up…didn’t really happen till “Lean Back”
Joell will son your favorite rapper. Period.
On the Real no one can touch joell right now only bad thing i can say about his shit is that it makes me realize how much rap sucks nowadays forreal I will buy the next tape when it comes out no doubt and i havent bought shit in years. But yea Joell would read this shit and laugh if he olny cared bout blowin up he woulda stayed on aftermath and waited his time but NO the man wanted to just put out good music and flow Dude gone get paid he got publishing rights on detox he pack shows and is a lyrical monster real hiphop fans will follow that shit 90’s forever follow that shit bring it back
