“…He ain’t watching you, he’d rather watch his money pile.”
Ah, the benefits of my trial-version of Sirius Satellite Radio.
Not only am I free from the same reiterated radio (c)rap and played out CDs, but I can tap into the goldmines that are the decade stations. Cruising up the 696 on-ramp this afternoon, I buttoned the favorited 90s station and was directly treated to LL’s introduction to some fly mami from 1996 on his classic remix to “Loungin (Who Do Ya Love).” Over the smooth Bernard Wright-sampled soundscape (NARD!) from underappreciated production-duo The Trackmasters, I happily indulged as the man who might still have a clothing line at Sears sensually seduced underappreciated women who are confined by the diamonds and baller-talk of guys “frontin’ in the 6 with the chrome.”
With all the negative sentiment towards fortune this joint, I not only realize how much times have changed, but how they’ve changed the artists. It’s as if the Mr.Smith never tried to teach us how to ball on Exit 13, when he stunted alongside 50 Cent and gloated about his ‘Lamb’s and Mazaratis.’ Either way, being too young to remember his glory days, this is the Cool J I remember.
Not Botox. No outrageous physique. Just a smooth, FUBU’ed out hustler from Queens who was too fly for his own damn good.

I kinda miss Total too.
Yeah Total had some hit records under their belts.
I’ve got the CD single laying around somewhere, this remix is tight, like the way Poke, Tone & Travelli flipped the Bernard Wright sample. But the original mix is tight too, with the Al B Sure! sample, brillo!
I’ve had a slight panache lately for the mid 90s stuff, man I miss those maxi singles which were choc o block with remixes and wot not.
Remember, INTRO? Man this track is still the slickness, I’m sure DJ Rectangle did a blend of this once with the ED OG & Da Bulldogs:-

^ I got that album! Hahahaa… I’mma about to break that one back out.
I was digging everything Bad Boy touched during this time period.
Remember the “Kissing You” remix with Puff reciting Mase’s lyrics?
Another classic.
And why didn’t LL make that “Heartbeat” joint with him & 50 a single? Shit was fire. Same with the 50 joint on Freeway’s album. Why waste having Curtis on the hook?
Intro – sexy talk, no homo.
Did Total just fuckin die or what? They dropped & then dropped out of sight feels like.
Classic material. I always thought the references and clip were a subtle sublim at BIG.

I know Keisha married Omar Epps, and ol’ girl Kima lives around here in DC, but I don’t know what happened to Pam.
Another Bad Boy group bites the dust. Next stop… Day 26. lol
I miss Total.
I wonder where my first Total album is?
I loved both of the Total CDs
One thing I’ll say about Puffy and R&B, he knows how to surround himself with the right Hitmen, dude got an awesome ear for sound. Case in example Mary J Blige ‘My Life’ freaking sublime album, 94 was a good year for Puffy.
Didn’t the original Badboy Hitmen comprise of Jesse West, Easy Moe Bee and Lord Finesse?
Total had some quality tunes, but the market was so saturated back then with R&B songstresses, some made it longevity and others got lost in the wave after a brief stint.
Did Total just fuckin die or what? They dropped & then dropped out of sight feels like.

The sophmore slump hit Bad Boy hard. None of the R&B follow ups (Total, 112, Faith) lived up to the debuts. And that’s the last time we saw Total.
I think Omar Epps wifed up the thick jawn tho.
back in the day Cool Jay > Jay
Didn’t the original Badboy Hitmen comprise of Jesse West, Easy Moe Bee and Lord Finesse?

Oh yes…. Puff mastered combining Hip-Hop and R&B. I still think he’s one of the best at that.
Why is there so much hate in the world?
Trackmasters had heat too. Them dudes had a pretty good winning streak goin on from 95-98.
^ They gave a lot of that heat to The Firm…
I’m pretty sure that Trackmasters may unknowingly DJ’d one or two of my high school homecoming dances. lol
Ah. I’ll never forget the first time I heard this song. Last year, Senior Year High School. I’m dropping a teammate off from track practice and I go to put on Hot 97, it was a throwback. The day was sunny, good temperature, and windows of the car down. I remember hearing the announcer go in that deep voice “BACK IN THE DAY, NEW YORK CITY, 1996. That beat comes on and was just so damn smooth I couldn’t help but feel that vibe, started to blast up that stereo and I hear the angelic chorus of Total “Who do you love???? Are you for sure???” Damn I went home that day to see what Cool J song that was. From that day, this song became one of my favorite songs ever, and the quoted line was/is definitely my favorite line. What a song.
@ Ragga
I hate you.
Diddy also wanted to remix OC’s ‘Word Life’ back then, well that’s what I heard anyway.
Actually I take that back with my favorite line; my favorite line is:
“Just cause you blessed with cash/Doesn’t mean your honey won’t let me finesse that ass”
Homegirl from saved by the bell is bangin in this video.I dont know about now but what is her name????
Dustin Diamond D?
Lark Voorhies.
@ Complex “hate me now but I won’t stop now” “take that take that take that.” (c) Diddy (pause)
Jason Voorhees sister?
The lead video female, I didn’t recognise her.
Last time I saw was in Elm Street 4 (or was it 5), the other night on DVD, Kruger sliced her up pretty bad
Why all the disclaimers when it comes to LL? Homeboy’s been in the game since the ’80′s… Nuff said.
Props n’ keep it moving.
@ Paw – Saved By The Bell
Indeed, Cool J is the dude. I admired the way he kept uttering love poetry down the telephone line, even though he knew Michael Myers had breached the security gates. He also survived Myers’ onslaught that evening, so I give him props for that.
However, Busta Rhymes was mad corny with that kung fu shit in the next one.
Oh yeah Cool J also survived those genetically modified sharks, but his parrot got eaten, which was kind of a tear jerker. But Cool J made it, only him and Thomas Jane made it alive from the jaws of death!
smh @ Baby Paw’s videographic memories of LL Cool J’s trash films. His head is like a shark fin.
This song is cool, but “Hey Lover” was the shizznit!!!
@Ragga, yeah man! Deepest, bluest, my head is like a sharks fin! Deepest, bluest, my head is like a sharks fin! Ha, ha, man, that’s a blast from the past! :)
The first song that Cool J penned for a major motion picture, was for Wildcats back in 1986, think the Gridiron fans amongst you will enjoy this one.

Thats definitely not Lark V.
That was the joint back then.
But did you just say “fly mami”? Shudders.
^^i figured it was ll cool’s pov
speaking of LL. I am trying to find out what LL song is that Peedi Crakk uses on “Angel Of Mine” and Freeway uses on his “Freeway Is Back” mixtape. That beat is crazy and im tryna see if LL ripped it. ANYBODY?
Mr Smith !
