Yes, I get it, he’s headlining the way into a sing-a-sonic-phonic funk era of tinky, tinny synth. But I just sort of really want sped-up soul hooks and Jamie Foxx slow jams, and the farther we get away from them the more I realize the honeymoon is over. The more I realize getting booed at Bonnaroo was perhaps the straw that broke the water-logged camel’s back. The more I realize a Michael Jackson fate awaits the man with too much pop power.
Heavy is the crown, Kanye. Heavy indeed.
But like “Billie Jean” and “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” and “Never Can Say Goodbye” before them, I will wear the tape off “Late” and “Flashing Lights” and “Get ‘Em High” til they’re stretched beyond digital listenability.

Relateable-able to relate. Now shit is as it was put. Artsy fartsy to appeal to this upper echelon that still ain’t fuckin with ya’ll-just ya money & Status. C’mon-Bono ain’t have the college dropout not In My Lifetime. He had 808′s and Kingdom Come. And that’s where we divorced. Say what ya want about Fifty but he still here with his content.

And I agree that the content of 808s is relatable on many fronts… but I also know the Kanye West I felt I could vibe with and relate to the most has been missing for well over a year. I even felt like I knew who he was when he came out on stage on Def Poetry Jam with a gang of LV luggage, just for the fuck of it.
