Being a one hit wonders means a lot; it means you actually had a hit, but failed to produce or release another hit during the buzz. It could also mean that too much time was spent building up the single and/or the people got tired of you by the time your song was popular.

This song is not that case at all.

Horace Brown’s extremely low radar “hit” never broke the Billboard R&B Top Ten, but was actually a decent track. “One For The Money” was plagued from the get-go, though, as it was sort of “late.” It was New Jack Swing coming out in 1996, when that sound died in about 93-94. He sounds like a low budget Montell Jordan, but that’s not a bad thing in this case. I caught this song late night on Last.fm and it’s a nice mellow track that takes you back to the 90′s sound that we miss. Horace Brown sings of the ever popular story of rags to riches, but does so casually and amateur that it’s cool. No crying or whining or…Autotune. Just decent contemporary rhythm and blues. Enjoy.
