He has shown that he can freestyle, he has to show the next stage in development and craft songs. If he can do it he has a chance at a very long career.
I still say that he’s gonna be the college kids choice…
…until Em drops Relapse. Unless his album has some fire on it, no one will remember Asher within 2 years.
^ I disagree Eddie, if he falls flat on his face. The record execs who thought he was the next great thing will remember him in 2 years. His failure will be the cause of them getting laid off. lol
If the album’s nice, that’s all I care about. So far, I’ve been impressed, so I’m willing to at least give him a chance. Plus, “Lark on my Go-Cart” is my shit, at the moment, and the video is hilarious!!!
Blumpkin’s are gross.
This kid’s gonna be a monster in the suburbs and on college campuses… not because of skin–tho that won’t hurt him, but because of his randomized Hamilton-esque subject matter and flow.
Also, I was waiting for a Lark Voorhies reference.
Not a fan of videos like this. Definitely a fan of this song though.
The vids better than I thought it would be.
There’s a common trend with people who critique Asher Roth and it’s kind of annoying.
If you don’t like it, shut the fuck up and move along, stop judging and updating yourself on his progress if you just keep hating… I was a big fan, the mixtape dropped after a bit of youtube buzz and I felt it, mostly decent songs with a few fillers, but it was catchy, enjoyable material.
Since then he’s gone into transition mode with these “songs” and I’m not overly impressed, BUT I’m not one to absolutely break this kid down while he’s in the stages leading to his first album, it’s awkward with every new artist and I take the bad songs with a pinch of salt.
I reckon everyone else should too…
It’s like, I don’t know, an athlete in his rookie year… few bad games and you think the potential is gone?… foolishness.
Eminem will not diss this kid or recognize him as a biter as the majority of the haters do… in fact, don’t be so very very shocked that someday down the road these two end up being closer than you may think, i.e. a collab?
I think we need to lay off this kid until the album drops, then we can re-assess the situation… let him dip his feet in the water and if he pulls off at least a 3/5 type album, we can discuss what needs to be done to further his career.
(Not hating on here in particular, but everywhere else)

Ummm…
“in fact, don’t be so very very shocked that someday down the road these two end up being closer than you may think, i.e. a collab?”
No.
(Sorry, not hating… having been around Marshall for a fairly large amount of time… I can almost say with certainty that the above will never happen)
“I think we need to lay off this kid until the album drops, then we can re-assess the situation… ”
fuck that shit!. if he’s coming with garbage im going to call shenanigans. if he wants to “dip his feet in the water” then tell his ass to go back and drop 2/3 more mixtapes and get his skills up, tour the underground, and build a base. cause all i see from this guy is a myspace record ex saying “oh he got 10mill plays on his myspace page” and singing him ala Hollywood undead to make the quick buck.
Lyrics are corny and the video only accentuates that. He is the rap Dane cook. No substance but a little style and college kids love his shit.
I like this for the most part.
I dont like the video for the most part
I’m not really sure where he’s selling anything because college kids don’t like his shit. I think it’s mostly high school girls.
I’m waiting for the album before I judge too.
First time I heard Em was on that ” My Name Is ” single. I thought dude was trash….. upon listening to the album dude went up there in the VIP section with Outkast in my book…..
You never know….. thats all im saying
I have yet to see why this fool is anything more than a well marketed MC Paul Barman. Non-sense lyricism has been done better, and smarter. Exhibit A: [www.youtube.com]
