I recently lost a close friend of mine.

She was someone I had known for close to eight years, and we’d been through it all. She and I shared four different bedrooms in four different homes. She loved music almost as much as I did. It was funny too, because we had almost exactly the same taste. Her collection of old, 80′s R&B was more than I could keep up with though. Whenever there was an opportunity to get out of the house, we’d go run shows together, taking in as much new material as we could. Sometimes, staying out that late bogged her down, but she was always fine by the time we’d shut down for the night.

Before she passed, unfortunately, we’d sort of grown apart. There was this new lady in my life and, as I introduced the two, I could tell they weren’t going to get along. What was once a flourishing relationship had turned into pure resentment on both parts. Maybe moreso from me, because I just couldn’t stand it when she stopped getting turned on altogether.

Then on a cold day a few weeks ago, she just gave it all up.

I don’t know if it was something I said or did specifically or if the times I shook her a little hurt more than she let on, but either way I was devastated. No last words. No warning signs. Nothing. She didn’t even bother to leave behind the music we had cherished together for so long. It’s a shame, but up until recently, she had really never given me any problems. She was always there for me, and for that, I am forever thankful.
