“Striving For Perfection” – On The Set Of Raekwon’s “Wu Ooh” Video Shoot
AUDIO By Khalid Strickland on February 26, 2009 at 12:54 pmYesterday in Sayreville NJ, the marquee outside of Club Abyss boldly announced its big event of the day as Raekwon was there shooting the video for his bangin’ new single, “Wu Ooh,” featuring Ghostface and Method Man. Before The Chef arrived, I shot the breeze with Rae’s brother/manager DonPerrrion Woods as we stood in the club’s parking lot. Mid-convo, Don glanced up at the marquee emblazoned with “Built 4 Cubin Links 2.”
“They ain’t spell it right,” Don muttered. “Whoever put that up gotta fix it.”
That offending slang-illiterate must not know that Cuban Linx 2 is one of the game’s most anticipated albums; have respect. Judging from its leaked joints, Linx 2 is a heat rock. This must be the gritty sound that Raekwon wanted RZA to use on 8 Diagrams. I can dig it.
Even after four-hour “Wu Ooh” marathon I experienced at the filming, the song’s still dope. It has a dusty, hard-edged sound that’s been recently missing from Hip-Hop. Directors John Colombo and Caleesh Lewis helmed the action at Abyss. In the filming area, The Chef and his homies sat on a wraparound couch overlooking a smorgasbord of beverages. There was Ace of Spades champagne, sparkling Nuvo and Henny by the bucket. Shit, I still have a bottle of Ace on lay-a-way. As cool as Rae is, that booze was reserved for his crew. But I packed a lil jug of Patron for the trip, so I survived. Ghost and Meth weren’t present this go-round but Joell Ortiz, Noreaga and JoJo Pelligrino supplied cameos at the shoot. One by one, the ladies trickled in and each well-stacked honey was worth the wait. The finished video ought to be hot.
Raekwon is a down-to-earth dude and that’s good to see. Many rappers act like divas who sashay around with Louis purses; it warms my heart to meet a real nigga once in a while. We’re the last of a dying breed. I look forward to toasting the overdue release of Cuban Linx 2 with some Ace of Spades. That is, if I can finish making the payments on it.

You think? I’ve always found dude to be hilarious in interviews. Then again, you catch anyone of these dudes on the wrong high or coming down off a high and…well, it’s always a crapshoot b/c they’re human lol
I think I just caught him at a bad time…He had just gotten off stage at the show and I think he was really feeling himself at the moment…or he was a lil disappointed in the turn out the show.
Im the surprised the owners of abyss let this go down being that they only let metrosexuals in the club only.
I was a bouncer there some months back and they only allowed 1 black person per 15 latinas and whites. They try to target the trouble.
1 baggy jean = loads of trouble.

Second row of pictures from the top, last shot on the right.
If you squint, you can see shorties panties. I know, I am a perv. It’s the cross I bear.
A) Regardless of the album title, someone actually had difficulties spelling “Cuban”, wow.
B) Club Abyss sucks, no respectable person in New Jersey goes there more than once.
LOL @ disgruntled baller.
it ain’t like i snuck that one in either. i gave her a chance to pose.
“ready… one-two-three!” click!
that club was deeeeep in jerz.
and i’m no fan of jerz, lemme tell ya’.
@ s.t.r.i.z.z.y.
ain’t that damn near all clubs nowadays, tho?
as more cities become gentrified, the worse it gets.
if i didn’t get invited to special events at these clubs, they’d never let my black-ass in.
maybe if i wore sweatpants with a gun tucked in the waistband they’d let me in. then again, i’m not a super bowl hero.
@ sherm
And the name Donperrrion is ignorant because…?
He’s a manager for a major artist, that’s his day job. He ain’t broke, ain’t on nobody’s clock, travels the world. Wutz in a name?
Speakin of names, ain’t “sherm” weed dipped in PCP or embalmin fluid or some shit?
Anytime this song comes on I have to str8 wyle out and get the ill bop going peace peace

Yo, this STONEY XL from HoodLife Cyphaz Dvd, I was on the crew for this. 1)Shawty, puhlease tell me honey had some black lace panties and that wasn’t nappy bush we see, honey was a sweetheart and I’d hate for her to be shocked when she see this. 2)Rae an ‘dem was 100% humble with us and professional. It was mad love in the room. 3)Shame on them fools for spellin it wrong. At the time I peeped it but didn’t connect that something was off about the sign. And dem niggaz was all Latino who own the joint. Was it a subtle dis to mis cubanos o sumting??? 4)And most importantly, the EAST is PHUKKIN back thx to tha WU once again. Just like in ‘93, this album gonna put the spotlight back on NY Hip HOP! ISH IZ FIYA 4 REAL!!! We must’ve played that ish like 100 times and ain’t NOBODY get tired of it. ISH is gonna have clubs on fiya if they speakers is right. 5)my nukka Scram Jones did half the album so u kno the beats is proppa.
