When he’s not incarcerated, more than likely Project Pat’s in the studio crafting that ignorant shit his fans have grown to love for so many years. With no plans of slowing down for anybody but the law, Pat’s seventh album, Real Recognize Real bridges upon all the usual subjects the Memphis mack has built his career on without displaying superiority or slacking on his pimpin’ either.
If there’s one thing Pat does well however, it’s talking shit. This couldn’t be closest to the truth when it comes to the Gucci Mane featured “Bang Smack” where he bluntly spits “You heard I was a dog/I’ma work with your scary tail.” The bluesy funk of “I Be Fresh” and trunk ready “Stayin’ High” are vintage deposits from PP’s repertoire as is the first single “Keep It Hood” which is a return to the original essence of the Hypnotize Minds camp. It’s the O’Jays meets OJ Da Juiceman as he trades pimpin’ punchlines for the M-Town’s latest theme song.
Possessing the original Memphis 10 recipe for song structure which consists of a catch-phrase chorus cycle, wash, rinse, repeat, much of Real Recognize Real expectantly comes up redundant — even for Project Pat’s standards. Remaining Three 6 Mafia members Juicy J and DJ Paul shoulder the bulk of the bloodcurdling crescendos and there’s a few bumps in the road, namely the awkward misfire “Catch A Hot One” and “Slick Hater” with its apathetic harmony and mind numbing vocals. And what’s a Three 6 release without a metaphorical female-ode as covered on the discourteous “Pogo Stick.”
No surprises here, you either get it or you don’t. New listeners will likely need an aspirin while diehards will be left wanting a little more. While real may identify with its own kind, it sure isn’t specific, but Pat perpetrates for no one.

Seriously, what kind of name is OJ Da Juiceman?
Just saying.
Nice write up of PP, TC. I agree, new comers would need some back catalog of his stuff to understand him, but as a listener of Pat, I get it. I might not like all of it, but I get it. 3 cigs is about right on the money.
@ E. Brock: I was thinking the same damn thing myself!!! LOL. Some of these South ninjaz have the most interesting names. Project Pat is still cool in my book though, he always has at least one hood anthem per album so which is it this time TC???
Don’t save her/she don’t wanna be saved!!! – Classic material!!!
THIS is the anthem!!! KEEP IT HOOD!!! Yeah my ninja, that’s what I call a street banger.
Stayin High is definitely a banger
Easily the star of Adventures in Hollyhood….Pats reactions to the bullshit Juicy and Paul partook in were pure comedy.
anyone got the new prodigy – invaders must die album?
i cant find it
“New listeners will likely need an aspirin while diehards will be left wanting a little more.”
Very True…it’s a okay album, much better then the last one, but I’m still waiting for the new batch of timeless ignorant bangers ala “North North” and “Cheese Dope”
Man, I’m one album away from giving up on Pat. I’ve already given up on the rest of 3-6. The Ghetty green days may be long gone. Gotta accept the facts.
anybody got the OJ Da Juiceman-The Otha Side Of The Trap?
