If you happened to stumble across the latest Vibe with Kanye on the cover, you probably found the better story (at least to me) was the chronicles of Jay Dee’s estate. In a nutshell, legal wrangling has kept his family, the rightful beneficiaries from benefiting from Dilla’s work. His parents, brother & his children are having the toughest time gaining the right to even use his name, much less royalty checks. On top of that, his mother Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey has been stricken with Lupus, the same debilitating disease that took Dilla way.
So in a mild way, consider this a chance to pay your respects to the man. Parra teamed up with Stones Throw to produce this “Ma Dukes” tribute T-shirt with all proceeds going to Dilla’s mother.
Available via the Stones Throw site and other retailers, a list of which you can find after the jump.

Industry Rule 4080 Still in effect. Record execs get ya die on
Jay Dee’s famlies plight shows the importance of writing a will. If he had a proper will, his family wouldn’t have to deal with this.
^ Very true
I’ll be buying one if these.
That’s a damn shame how his mother’s being done.
Nutured her sick son so he could make beats to essentially make money for people that won’t throw his mother a dime.

Grimey shit, especially with the hoards of cats screaming R.I.P. Dilla.
Shirt is dope though. I’m just leery of online purchases.
^ there’s offline spots as well. NOt sure if they’re near you.
It’s more about taking care of your paperwork while you’re alive. He’s got a will &…you have to read the article. it’s kinda of tangled b/w paperwork that was lax while he was living & now the will. I read the article a few weeks ago & if i remember correctly, the family is fighting the executor who’s fighting whomever the fuck Dilla owed & trying to get shit sorted.
I mean you got dudes that’s caked up that have worked with and ain’t slidin’ loot his way…
I hate to ask cuz i like these cats, but are The Roots, Common, Badu, ‘Kast, etc helpin’ out on some bills? is Busta? Dr. Dre? Mos?
You know the labels ain’t.
All that music and dude is reduced to an occasional shoutout and a t-shirt.
hey Phillmatic, Black Canseco … you still regurgitating that safe old “4080″ shit? shows that you didn’t read a word of the Vibe article. ignorance will get you nowhere. Dilla’s labels are actually looking out for ma dukes, as you can see from the main story here.
Biggga … Dilla DID have a will, who do you think appointed his estate in the first place? that’s one of the fucked up things in the whole situation.

I super co-sign on that one kid. Shady shady business. All Dilla heads needs to go and cop this shirt in support of not just the Dilla, family and legacy but also the research of LUPUS. If any of you bums dowloaded his whole catalog the least you can do is buy a shirt!
