I warned you that I could miss a day in Unofficial GTO week. Getting things back on track, today’s choice will be “Keeps Getting Better” & “Sags-N-Flags” from S.L.’s C.O.L.O.R.S., which was probably only appreciated by a few such as myself.
Is the material overwhelming? Nah. Is it still worth a listen? I’m obviously biased & I did buy the CD if that proves my point. It’s probably one of those albums that if you’re a fan of an artist & his affiliates, you’ll spin it & it will progressively grow on you because it gives attention to the usual underling and moves them into a featuring role. For these two tracks, Jonesy finds a comfortable mid-tempo lane for his delivery & pops off graphic content steadied by color chart reference before Dro.
S.L. Jones – Keeps Getting Better

all them rags he grippin’
I wonder what set he claim
“This Crayola, fool! Break yo sef”
worst acronym used for an album title?
Tupac’s “Strictly For My…
Never
Ignorant
Getting
Goals
Accomplished”
Sags-N-Flags is a classic! One of my favorite cuts from Pledge Part 1. I was about to cop this album because I like SL but I never got around to it because I didn’t hear anything. Guess I’ll give it a shot now.
I want to say i saw it on IAP or cdbaby for hella cheap.
“IT’S JONES!!!” hahah, yeah, this album rides. “Sags-n-Flags” and “Sincerious” are tops for this album IMHO.
that boi said “grindin on a blind bitch / thas a jedi mind trick”
If you haven’t purchased this album, you need to gone ‘head and get it.
*smh at my non typin ass*
“shinin on a blind bitch / thas a jedi mind trick”
The whole album was appreciated here cuzin’.
Been listening to Jones since the 1st GTO mixtape Killer Mike put out after Monster. Was real apprehensive @ 1st ’cause he sounded too much like Fabolous, but he definitely set himself apart on his solo outing.
Bring It To Ya should’ve been posted as a gem…that’s the jam dog.
Ish
That interlude about playin the numbers and spinnin rims is my shit!
To me S.L. sounds like a cross between Fabolous and Chamilionaire. He’s not bad tho.
I have this album and it gets put in rotation often Sags and Flags is classic after that I was sold on SL
Been Fucksin with Jonesy.
I like his flow, it’s real cool and laid back.
I enjoyed the entire album but he hasnt had much new material in a while.
Hopefully this Grind Time/Grand Hustle venture gives Jones a bigger stage
Purple bag Dickies Poppa Smurf blue flag, SAY, you know the flag when I sag……
shit is hot, has been on my “banger” mixes for a while and heads who aren’t into rap often say “Who is this dude”?
GTRG……BANG BANG BANG
sags n flags rocks.
“hustlin’s just in my blood” is my other favorite joint of there.
can’t say this album wholly lived up to my expectations–i was really anticipating it after his work on PATTG1–but its a solid debut for sure.
I produced Sincerious.
Just a little blatant self-promotion.
@ original dude,
It’s “paper bag dickies” not “purple bag dickies”
@ trackstar the dj,
I can feel where you are coming from. I’ve been ridin wit grind time since day 1. S.L. has always had my attention when he drops a verse. It wasn’t a bad album being that it was his first solo album.
