And oh yeah, Jamarcus isn't necessarily a bust yet. He definitely seemed to make strides towards the end of the season. He's got the tools obviously, he just needs grooming.

Everybody seems to be so impatient with young quarterbacks nowadays, even the white ones. People forget that even the greatest QBs of all time took a few years before they truly became good QBs. Bradshaw, Elway, that fuck Aikman, both Mannings (even though Peyton really only had one bad season, whereas Eli was inconsistent for three and a half). The only ones who didn't were Marino and Roethlisberger (although I don't necessarily consider Big Ben to be among the greats, yet). Every single team and their fans have a "win now" mentality every year even though that isn't realistic.

^^^ I love me some Tarvaris, I can't believe he wasn't mention in the article. I'm from MN and I've never seen a QB more unfairly criticized by both the media and fans than T-Jack. I really think it has something to do with race, as everybody who rips on him says that he's "not smart enough". People talk about him like he has no talent and shouldn't even be on an NFL roster. He's not great yet, but he has ridiculous skills. Fast as shit with a rocket arm, and he can be very accurate when he has time. Unfortunately he just caves under pressure and struggles against the blitz. He's probably not ready yet; another season on the bench behind Garcia or McNabb would do him well. But when he does get there, he will be a TERROR.

And why no mention of Kordell Stewart? Dude was my childhood idol, and he was another overly criticized black QB. He did have his struggles, no doubt, but when he was on he could make defenses look straight up SILLY.

I understand completely. I've caught myself rooting for Tavaris Jackson when logic says he's a backup that needs serious grooming. Some days I feel like that Chapelle SHow skit where his blackness won't allow him to convivt OJ

^^
Thank you GD, for finally coming with 'FACTS', thats all I ask..... and yes all you chi-natives are being bias!!

Black Canseco says:

I’m from Chi… When skinheads firebombed McNabb’s house he smiled through it. His family’s just like that. They smile through everything. I wouldn’t but i can’t hate on him for being that way.
___________________________________
Never knew that, and I will watch what I say about families and such....But as a Qb. (even when he was at Syracuse) he never amount to anything, and comparing him to jim kelly isnt a plus (coming from a huge 90's bills fans) they both lack whats needed to be a winner: confidence in their teammates, a authoritative voice in the huddle/locker room win or lose!....c'mon we talking about a man that rather go to the post game interview before he addresses his teammates!! Thats just plain lack of leadership....

Secondly, with the exception of T.O. and possibly this year’s receiving crew of D jackson and Chad Curtis, McNabb has been stuck with WRs that couldn’t start for any other team in the league; yet he puts up 3,000/ +15 TD and a 2.5:1 TD to interception ration every single year.
____________________________________
And Mcnabb is the one that wanted receivers like stinkson (todd pinkston) etc....he pressed upper-management to make unprofessional choices.

ps.
We use to hate that shit, we wanted romanowski out after he win the SB and he started to get injured until the birds would get down inside the 30 yard line or so than he would come back into the game like a survivor or some type of messiah sort of like mcfag, oops that was wrong), "fukka outta here, keep cunningham!!"

ghostdini rich says:
and don’t even let me get into the fact that he’s never had any receivers or tight ends (except for the T.O. year…and we saw how far he took yall that year), so please save that “donovan doesn’t play hard” stuff cause it ain’t true
________________________________
Sorry my nig, but when you are at the top position at any sport that includes the responsibility of making players around you better and thats a attribute Mcnabb dont and cant possess.

ps.
James Thrash was a starter on other teams and thats who helped mcnabb stats, from catching a twelve yard pass from mcnabb he would stretch it to a 18-25 yard play with his speed and running ability.

California"Hollywood Sloan"Soul says:

For him to win the ship would be a BIG FUCK YOU, to all the doubters, critics, media, philly fans (turncoats) and his coach. So Donovan win the ship then bounce on Philly and go to Chicago and on the way out leave a note in your locker saying. “Pucker up bitches, kiss my ass good bye and good luck finding a replacement, assholes, i’m GONE”.!!
____________________________________
BLAH,BLAH,BLAH....I hope he does, i really wish him the utmost luck, but its not going to be mcnabb that wins the chip....I believe westbrook deserves being on the pinnacle for the simple fact that he didnt get a CHANCE in hell to start in the L, after a stellar season at villanova university (a local PHILLY suburb college), he had to not only sit (matter fact ride) the pine until niggaz started to get injured, but he had to hear his own management (niggaz that drafted him and mcFAG, oops there i go again) tell him he was to short and small to play 30 snaps a game, now look at the lil nig killing it (barry style) everytime he touches the rock (35-40 times a game). And he is a superb teammate/leader in the locker room!!

OED aka Shoe T'Quille says:

Don’t sleep on what McNabb could do w/ top flight talent….
When Tom Terrific got 2 guys in Welker and Moss, you barely heard any comparisons to Peyton by the end of the year
_________________________________
The Eagles had a chance to get Moss, but Mcnabb didnt want to take that pay cut, and he thought randy was to much of free-spirit (with the weed smookin) to be on the same team...

in conclusion....
So yes; us PHILLY sports fans are hard on our black athletes because its a predominately black city, besides tha jews in the northeast, and the m.o.b. running shit all over the city. So yes when we our owners get a chance to draft a high priced black athelete the management is going to do anything they can to get him, but us as fans really look at the big picture….Ricky would have been a perfect fit back in 99 or 2000, we had A.I. (another gangsta, weed smoking nigga) killing shit in the A, while skipping practice…It would have been like a love story in PHI!!

This write up really got me thinking. What actually defines/makes an outstanding quarterback?

Of course you've got the tangible shit. The stats you can look up on NFL.com (passer rating, touchdowns, interceptions, yardage, percentage completion ). That's all important in defining an outstanding quarterback.

Then of course the issue discussed at length earlier: personnel (both teammates and coaches)

But I think the thing that keeps good quarterbacks from great quarterbacks is more intangible:

1. Timing (not only in decision making but in playing well when it's absolutely imperative)
2. Support (not only from teammates and coaches, but fans as well)
3. Ability to motivate (whether by example or through direct leadership)
4. Consistency
5. Durability

McNabb's timing is questionable. Losing to Cinci? That was bad timing. Miraculously making the playoffs at the end of the season? Good timing.

Support? I'm not even going to get into Philly's support for their professional sports teams.

Ability to motivate? If one uses T.O.'s tenure in Philly as a reference, then McNabb's isn't so great. But then again, T.O.'s a fucker anywhere so that's not the best litmus test for that ability.

Consistency? McNabb's consistency isn't the best for one major reason:

Durability? McNabb's played a full 16 game season 4 times with 10 seasons under his belt. Hard to have consistency when faced with this.

So yeah, perhaps McNabb would be a better quarterback with better personnel (I'm looking at you Andy Reid/Eagle WRs), but I don't think that's the only thing holding him back from reaching his full potential.

Ok. Now I'm done.

there's a company called concrete2green whose aim is to grow soccer in urban areas (specifically with african-american youth) in the u.s. they're doing events around the country and building indoor soccer courts nationwide to make soccer as accessible to urban youth as basketball is.

http://www.concrete2green.blogspot.com/

if this idea can catch on, we might be able to change soccer's image in this country.

plus, i stay fresh with my soccer track jackets and forces, lol.

No mention of Jason Campbell...Even if he do look like Lionel Richie he is still representin, I think Campbell will be the 1st of the next gen black quarterbacks to win a Superbowl.

I wish Donovan the best this year even though his whole "I didn't know a game could end in a tie" statement set black quarterbacks back YEARS, and prolly brought a big smile to Rush Limbaugh's face.

weezy,

the other thing about money is you really don't "need" money to play basketball. it's a ball and 2 goals, just like soccer.

i think what got people was the land--the concept of needing manicured fields to play soccer doesn't apply to any country but this one. like i said, overseas, they'll play on cement, gravel whatever... but here, people start feeding u a bunch of BS when you're like 9 years old... plus soccer gear ain't "cool"... not yet at least.

You're absolutely right. Growing up my parents had to hustle extra hard to get the dough needed for me to play top-level soccer. Even that wasn't enough and it took scholarships (even during middle school and high school) to keep me at that level. When you get up to elite-level soccer at that age it's 90% wealthy kids and 10% hustlers who have to do fund raisers, work extra jobs and do whatever else it takes to continue the sport. If you don't have the will or the way, most of us (American Black kids) end up dropping the sport by early teens.

It doesn't help that like basketball, the fresh gear is the expensive gear. The only problem is you can't rock $180 soccer shoes to school the day after a game.
