It was only a matter of time before the snow came.
Just a few weeks ago it was damn near 60 degrees and now I barely want to go outside. This morning, I woke up and looked out the window to see a world blanketed with snow. When I was younger, this would have been to perfect time to go outside and get into mischief. Maybe make a few bucks shoveling driveways, go sledding, snowball fights, throwing snowballs (actually, more like iceballs) at cars and whatever else. I’m sure my brethren from the Chi & Canada can relate to this.
Now, all I want to do is hang out around the house and look out the window every now and then. To watch the idiots drive crazy and make no one hits the whip. Like Gotty said before, this was a day when I wanted to hear some music and nothing else. So today I had ESPN on mute and played the instrumentals to 808s & Heartbreak. If winter were a movie, this could be the score. The sparse production perfectly captures the bareness and isolation winter can bring in the form of cabin fever. Whether you liked the album or not, check out the instrumentals and prepare for the audio blizzard that’s sure to start with MC’s hopping on these tracks. So far, my favorite one would have to be Mickey Factz’s “Thinking Out Loud.”

I would cry…but the tears would just stick to my cheek
I miss Chicago….
Especially Winter booty.
just Division Street and and Wrigleyville… chicks (white folks) be drunker than Russians under Gorbachev takin’ cats home just to stay warm.
Trish: Hey Becca, look over there! See that big dude in the smedium dockers and receeding hairline?
Becca: OMG, Trish! He’s gotta have like a 46-inch waist. ”
Trish: Seriously! 42 inches at least… it’s like Kevin James big. Hey, Becca, Bet he’s got back hair, too!
Becca: Okay Trish—I can’t take another week of this weather. It’s 1am. My apartment heat’s still out… friggin’ landlords. Anyway, my standards are on vacation till like March or the first thaw, which comes first. Meanwhile, momma needs some spoonin’. Know what I mean?
Trish: I know the feeling. But…
Becca: Look, don’t get me wrong: he ain’t gettin’ none; but the more feels he cops, the better I’ll sleep. it’ll be like that ‘cuddle party’ we went to the other night (to self): Knew I shoulda kept that down comforter my mom sent me.
Trish: I guess… What the hell! let’s go!
*Becca downs her 7th hot toddy, Trish finishes off her 5th Black and Tan and walks over to Mr. Rolly-Polly*
Trish: Hiya ‘big guy’… what’s your name?

I feel your pain MZ, damn minus 20′s all week up here!!! Extreme cold alerts have been issued by Environment Canada, so that means if your ass doesn’t need to be outside then stay the fuck home!!! lol!!! I agree, the “808′s” album truly captures the harshness and beauty of Winter simultaneously: Sparse and desolate, yet pristine and tranquil. I keep this album on heavy rotation in the deck.
Right now it’s so cold the homeless are comitting crimes to get locked up. It’s not a joke in Toronto! I’m going to Jam rock in a few weeks. Thank you lord!
cold as shit in the northeast.
fcuk the cold.
I am done.
-9. -30 wind chill.

my dude, I literally just fuckin laughed.
Canseco = a goddamn fool lol
He ain’t lying about Division Street though, that’s where the TSS block were on NYE.
“One thing that encourages the heart is music.”- Dr. Maya Angelou.
I remember gettin’ in trouble for throwing snowballs at cars when I was a kid. Snowball fights used to be fun too. Hell we used to play football in the snow as well.
Now I hate Winter haha. I just look at snow like it’s a big mess. It’s even worse that I’m in upstate NY for school this year. It’s -3, I think it’s gonna snow AGAIN today, and I know I’m headin’ straight home after class. I really don’t feel like goin’ out when the weather is so terrible.
@ MZ…hell yea, TSS had Division on lock. But it was much warmer in those days
I’m a Nebraskan. been in the negative since Monday, with the highest it’s been was 5. It’s 2 degreez right now, and supposed to drop as low at -15. Bundle up bitches.
Correction: it’s -1 here right now… in the afternoon.
@ David
True – but we had alot more alcohol in us as well. You can always roll to Gary to warm up, lol
Words can’t even express how cold it is in the Chi right now. Hearing negative temps with windchills in the negative 20′s doesn’t even bother me. This cold is offensively cold, like it called the Rutgers a nappy headed ho or something.
Man TSS in the Chi on NYE and I can’t even get an invite?
Have y’all gone up Division street yet, like up that mufugga, away from Rush St, into the hood with all the wild ass Puerto Ricans? That’s where I grew up, if you ever roll through, HUMBOLTD PARK WHAT WHAT!!
Aye David D, if you’re looking for some ill shit to get into tonight and can brave the cold, you should hit up my underground social club. It’s on 2716 North Ave, North and California, in…HUMBOLTD PARK WHAT WHAT lol. Every other Thursday there’s live music, it’s basically a gully open mic, all types of hip-hop, poetry, stand up comedy, spanish music, reggae, etc etc. Doors open at 9, goes until 2, costs $5 or bring some canned foods to donate to the food shelter and you won’t be turned away. Feel free to BYOB, be warned if you don’t however all thats on the menu is $2 High life and $2 PBR, there’s a liquor store right next door open until midnight though.
And if venturing out in these conditions isn’t something you’re ready for yet, s’all good; check it out in 2 weeks, it’s every other Thursday and some weekends. Shit’s a good time, lots of social justice mufuggas down for the cause, dope artwork all over, I’m behind the bar slanging beers, holla holla

WOW, do I really want to make a move to the midwest?? hmmmmm!!
Blaze, where you thinking of heading?
I’ma tell you like a brother told me- Coats Run Everything Around Me (CREAM)
Nah but for real, I always advise getting the winter wifey piece. Line her up by November, set her free around April (Unless she’s a keeper). So long as you got that, grub in the crib, internets and cable, books, maybe a ps3, music, and your vice of choice (dro, drink, both), you should be good. That’s how I survive at least.
Humbolt Park… what?!!! Fine honeys in HP. Good grub, too… Like the little Museum over their on 18th Street. But it’s rowdy as hell in the summer!
Shit is rowdy year round and rowdy times 20 in the summer. 18th street though? You confusing Humboltd Park with Pilsen, where all the Mexicans hold it down. 18th street is ill too though, honeys aint as fly as in HP though. HP in the summer, just post up on Division street on one of the benches, you’ll see but nothing but fly honeys.
heh its -30 like here in quebec …im freezing my fucking nutz off dunno why… luckly got bitches to warm my balls up and clipse to sooth the atmosphere
my bad… Pilsen is 18th… Humbolt’s over west of Lincoln Park… ish runs together now. i’m gettin’ old Ro’…
*looks around for my memory pills*
But yeah man Humbolt is nuts, I’d cruise down Diversey and end up in some rough sections, but it was cool. I loved watching all the cats come east and hit the lakefront –white kids got shook when they saw all these cats comin’ every august…
that’s it, i’m visiting Chi in August. Eff it!
Holla at me when you come this way Black, I’m posted here until 2010, when I pull the Canseco and head towards greener (RE: WARMER) pastures for law school. I got ATL, New Orleans, Cali, Arizona, and Florida all in my sights.
hearing all the chi heads on here just supports my wish to have a TSS BBQ here in the Chi this summer.
what say ye, gotty?
if we can’t do Chi…at least let’s do nashville or some shit…
And i have to go outside to smoke. Shit sucks
=======================================
haha, co-sign…freezing my ass off damn near ruins the cig, gotta switch which hand i’m holding the boge with every few minutes while the other one gets pocketed so my fingers don’t fall off.
it’ll be -2 tonight…fuck.
TSS BBQ!!!
Get Leon’s to cater it! lol!
but since it’s a Chitwon thing, we gotta cook on the old homemade grills… the one made out of old oil drums from the CTA. My pops used to make those for $50.
Stix
Smoking kills. so does 10 below temps…
this lady in Florida was bitching about a cold front . . . . It was 50 Degrees.
I almost flew down there and “X” her eyes
I LOVE winter. My favorite time of the year. It be hot year round
where I stay.
We’ve had more mid 60′s & upper 70′s this winter than cold days :(
Snow fell 1 day last year, March 6. Snow is rare where I stay, so it was a special day for folks down hur. Smoking in the cold does kinda suck though.
