Filmed on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles.
The man Buff did something actually important with his time, talent and money. We could all probably use a bit more of that foresight.
Better late than never I guess. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s now old news that Charles Barkley was arrested for running a stop sign while drunk on New Year’s Eve. The mug shot and his alleged talk of fellatio among other strange activities combined for quite an ugly incident. Reports also surfaced that Barkley’s blood-alcohol level was almost twice the legal amount when he was pulled over.
In light of those events, I wasn’t surprised when I heard that Sir Charles was taking a leave of absence from broadcasting. I’m happy he’s taking the time to patch up the issues he’s facing. But on a selfish Read the rest of this entry »
Though I have no direct quotes, I’m pretty sure the Commissioner of the WNBA was screaming something similar to that when she found out that the most celebrated athlete in WNBA history (Gold medalist, Rookie Of The Year, MVP in her first year) is going to spend the next nine months carrying a lil bundle of joy around. This means that Parker Read the rest of this entry »
As a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan, I’ve become quite accustomed to not having a team to root for this time of year. Though my boys are usually gone by December, I tend to find myself rooting intensely for some team when the playoffs role around — that team is always the one with the Black quarterback. My father went to Dillard University and I was raised near Jackson State University, so we have both been immersed in a culture that has celebrated the Black quarterback. NFL and BCS teams haven’t always been as enthused by the concept; successful, heavily recruited candidates being few and far between, for the most part.
Aside from perhaps the hockey goalie, the Black quarterback is one of the last frontiers of major sports. Read the rest of this entry »
Those three It’s The Real guys are funny as hell, but The Onion invented this parody shit. Plus they got a bigger budget.
Be forewarned, this has nothing to do with anything.

Oversaturation of music is something we are going to have to get used to. No matter how many times you tell your friend Lil’ Killa Boy (my apologies if this is a real rapper) that he should maybe take a step away from the microphone, he’s still going to push his new single “Pop Guns” like it was the best Hip-Hop song to be recorded since “Juicy.” The one thing that we have to keep in mind is that, while most of the new stuff given to us is on the mediocre side of things, there will still be good music being made that is waiting to be heard.
Cold Legistics‘ debut instrumental project Deeper Than You Think is the first musical surprise to start off the new year. The producer, who resides in Maine, attributes J. Dilla and Madlib as influences on this album full of soul. When asked Read the rest of this entry »

I’m sure Jason won’t be pleased to see Sky’s appearance on another mixtape, but it’s good to see Chaundon & Torae getting some well deserved shine. Lisa Bonet has always been equal parts banger and nutjob, but in our hearts she’ll always be Denise Huxtable so we gotta love her anyway. She and actor Jason Momoa, also father of her toddler Lola Iolani, welcomed a new bundle of joy into the world just before Christmas Day. Citing privacy concerns, the name of the baby boy has only just been released: Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.
Excuse me?
That’s not a name; that’s something you chant to put roots on somebody. Read the rest of this entry »
