Lil’ Wayne Vs. Skip Bayless
AUDIO By MZ on January 5, 2009 at 2:53 pmOn Tuesday, Lil’ Wayne will be invading ESPN2’s airwaves as a guest on First Take. He’ll be pitted against Skip Bayless in the 1st and 10 segment. 2009, at least the early part, will be akin to the year after winning a National Championship on the college level where you get a recruiting bump. For Wayne it’ll be in the form of endorsements and media shine like this. Not bad for an album that will be remembered more for it’s sales than content.
I’ll be checking this out, partly to see if Weezy is as up on sports as he claims to be, but mainly because it falls into my daily viewing habits anyway. I’ll wake up & make it through an hour of Sportscenter, then flip to the deuce while I peruse through my Google Reader. Such is the life when you work 2nd shift! I can’t call myself a Skip Bayless fan by any means because he has a definate bias to anything Hip-Hop related and Eminem is the extent of his Hip-Hop knowledge (surprise, surprise). However, I can respect his pompus know-it-all attitude and he will admit fault when proven wrong.
So this will either be great entertainment or excruciatingly painful to watch. It really depends on how much lean Wayne drinks before the show and whether he reads the pre-written cue cards.

Tivo and DVR are your friends my dude. That’s how I’ll be watching. I wasn’t surprised when they had Nelly on there because he’s clean cut and he is connected to sports (minority owner of the Bobcats), but I’m quite shocked to see Wayne getting the nod. Good look for him though.

The Facts Feat. Lupe
Hate Skip Bayless!
Skip Bayless is an ass; but he does admit when he is proven wrong.
Not bad for an album that will be remembered more for it’s sales than content.

I am not the biggest Lil Wayne fan; but lets stop with the hate. He put out a really good album. No he is not the best rapper alive; but he put out a really good album. To the victor goes the spoils.
Ha! I love it. I used to really take shit skip says seriously but after a while I realized how boring shows like 1st & 10, PTI, and ATH would be if everyone agreed. I LOVE seeing him and stephen A. Go at it from time to time (pause) those two bring great points to just about every topic. Wayne should be on point. I heard he’s no slouch when it comes to sports info.
i can’t stand skip, he hates on lebron every time i watch him.
That’s not hate Bigga, just my opinion (which will probably hold true in years to come). I’ve come to respect Wayne as an artist over the past year despite his ever-growing presence in all forms of media. When he’s on, he’s on. When he’s off, he’s off.
Tha Carter III was an average 3.5 cd.
Not bad for an album that will be remembered more for it’s sales than content.

damn bro I just went back and actually read what you wrote. I mean it seem a lil bit like u hatin forreal on his endorsements and the shine he’s gettin. I thought Carter 3 was solid.
C3 = 3.5 mics, no more, no less. Definitely no hate.
I wonder what they’re arguing about. Why Wayne won’t just come out of the closet like Skip?
I’m from the bay, and this dude Skip used to write for the SJ Mercury News.. i was like 11 and hated dude’s guts for always nagging about the home teams… fag
Hatin’.
It’s meaning has become a cliché within it’s own self.
Solid=3.5 Cigs
There’s never been a post on this site saying that the album was wack. Fact
@ Deen:
You mean to say Skip is literally and figuratively a pain in the ass? lol
For discussion sake, we all agree the Carter III = 3.5. Now tell me how many 3.5 rated albums “will be remembered more for it’s sales than content.” Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but the comment came off as a backhanded compliment.
Bigga – calling him a “pain in the ass” would be giving him too much credit.
PAUSE.
True, the comment came off as a backhanded compliment, but the truth can be a bitch like that sometimes…
hey hey, I listened to “Dr. Carter” just friday night. LOL. Weezy is entertaining. Not great or anything… sort of like, Eric Snow. Pretty good, but not great. Hit and Miss, a lot.
Bayless used to write for Chicago papers when i was there in the 90s… pompous is an understatement. he’s loud, zealous and confuses his detached cluelessness with objectivity.
But don’t be surprised if this 1-on-1 turns into a lovefest—rappers and hiphoppers in general tend to show ESPN and sports-media types in general exponentially more love and cred than they afford mainstream media. maybe it’s the Madden love and NBA Live stanopoly. (or the larger hiphop-videogame luv affair in general.) It’s like ESPN has platinum hood pass or something; which is ironic given the sports media’s frequent biases in covering black/ethnic athletes and culturally driven storylines.
i can totally see Weez calling Bayless his hero or some such stan-uckery. And no doubt some ESPN intern will pull u just enough references and couplets on Wayne to make Bayless look like, well, he forced as intern to pull up couplets and urban references to Wayne.

This one will because it bucked the odds in an environment where most people aren’t even selling a million cd’s (of the same or higher quality) within 5-6 months. That’s if they reacch it at all. Being that it was the highest selling album of the year (billboard), that’s what it’s gonna be remembered for.
To the victor goes the spoils.

exactly what I said.
So this will either be great entertainment or excruciatingly painful to watch.

Or both.
If my memory serves me correctly, T.I’s KING album was the only hip hop album that went platinum for the year it was released. Is KING remembered just for going platinum? You may end up being right; but I believe he should get some credit for crafting a solid album as well.
Can’t wait for first take
I don’t think Skip Bayless knows how to conduct himself any other way; so he will be a rude, condescending jackass. Hopefully Wayne skips the lean for the night and can defend himself.
No it’s not remembered solely for that, but I remember him riding a big single (“What You Know”) a la “A Milli” or “Lollipop” along with relasing it the same week as ATL. Which created an event out of buying the album just like with Tha Carter III. The two albums are pretty similar now that you bring it up. And look how it’s remembered.
Also, King was the top selling hip-hop album, not album period. Wayne’s got more than enough credit for a solid album.
Granted but what album doesn’t use and or needs promotion to put up big numbers?
There’s never been a post on this site saying that the album was wack. Fact

lol okay dwight schrutte
ima dvr the show tho
Can someone tell me what year it was when album sells matter for rappers?
^^

LMAO, that cause ala E-Snow he gets to much floor time, lol, yous a fool for that!!
Sales have mattered ever since we’ve heard the words gold, platinum, & wood referenced in lyrics. It’s not the end all be all, but lets not pretend like this is some post millenium phenomenon.
I remember Skip on the Mercury too. The dude would hate on an orphanage. I’ve read some of Weezy’s blogs on ESPN, he seems like he knows what he’s talkin about, if it is actually him writing. I’m thinkin if he can get someone to hold his sizzurp cup for him he can for damn sure get someone to write something for him
3 Peat!!! CHA CHING :)
@ B.payton
If I’m Dwight for that comment, then you’re Kelly Kupur for suckin’ Carter 3’s lollipop well into ‘09…
LOL @ Maestro
What about DFB “Put Ya On?”
i really, really hate Skip Bayless. Worst sportscaster on TV. Yes, worse than the “Boom Goes the Dynamite” guy.
Man, I’m torn.
I can’t decide who I dislike more, Skip or little Dwayne.
And please, stop calling the Carter 3 a solid album. It has 4 or 5 good songs, at best. Hell, I’ll even give you 7.
Now, I’m no mathematician, so bear with me for a second.
7/16 = 0.4375
Out of 16 tracks, 44% are good. That is not a solid album.
^
Now THAT is funny!
Broke out the calculator on mofos, and divided that shit by one.
wassup folks totally off topic but anybody got a link for sya spyware doctor or any spyware program…
thanks in advance
I can’t believe this. Pure comedy.
I think Skip is going to get so worked up over everything, like always, and waynes mellow ass will be playing things cool like it dont matter….cause it dont.
I wont be up, so im hoping TC or Gotstra post that shit asap.
LMFAO@the disgruntled, when you break it down it seems so simple….
When did it become out of fashion for us as consumers/participants and fans to express our feelings about anything hip-hop in a matter-of-fact fashion without the word hate being tossed out.
Was the statement untrue? You think so.. what is Straight out of Compton known for? its sales or the content? What about Ready to Die, or Stankonia or fuck it Electric Circus??
Because lets be real what MZ said however it might come across to you, is very much how a MAJORITY of us feel. No one said the album is garbage, nor did any say that the album won’t be remembered.. the question is what will it be remembered for more.
Stop abusing hip-hop lexicon. it is eroding your ability to be a good fan. If the words hater, Stan and swagger are what you use to describe something related to hip-hop these days, you need to unplug and get some older music.
Folks need to be able to express themselves to artist and artists, REAL artist will be able to either take that criticism and craft something that they feel is better or say fuck it and do them.
*watches in anticipation*
good look on that frankie cutlass….that used to be one of my favorite dj albums and it used to get mad burn while i was gettin my ride n burn on… “a black peop-le/ ooooooooh/ a puerto rico/ohhhhhhhhh”
This is soooooo bad. Wayne is strange. Very vapid, not to mention weird looking on that ESPN set. He should never attempt to clean up or wear glasses. He looks ridiculous.
^lol, did they make-up his tats?
