Ride Out and Terry Cole lend their take on Gil Scott Heron’s classic about the Detroit Riots. After Mitch Albom spoke on the unsettled souls, its serves as further detail to dismay. Not all props go to Ride & TC though, as fellow Detroit emcees Marquis Porter and Natas both had their versions out previously.

Natas – We Almost Lost Detroit

Good shit here Beware, nice vibe to start my work week.
On another note, completely aside from this, have any of y’all seen this??
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-teen-cop-26-jan26,0,6467334.story
Long story short for those who don’t want to read it, basically a 14 year old kid reported to “work” as a police officer at a station on the South Side of Chicago. The police did not know he was a 14 year old kid impersonating the police until 5 hours later, AFTER he returned from riding shotgun in a squad car making the rounds with another officer. Fucking hilarious. These are the cops who will keep the city safe as it burns to the ground in 2016 during the Olympics.
^ heard it on the news this morn. They said something to the effect that the only reason he was caught was b/c another officer finally noticed his uniform was missing stars (or it could have been stripes). Whatever the case, smh @ that precinct lol. Aren’t cops generally assigned partners though?
^^^^WOW. That’s unbelievable. Literally. My lil bro is 13, and those motherfuckers would be straight handicapped retarded to not notice his pubescent ass.
That’s terrible actually.
I never post here, but I do check it out:
http://secondcitycop.blogspot.com/
Basically a blog by a collection of anonymous cops, pretty entertaining read, and they have a lot of inside information about what happened that isn’t reported in full by the media.
Check this out (from the site):
This is classic. A male/1 in full uniform walks into the 3rd district desk and tells them he is from 005 and was sent there to work a traffic car. They get him a locker to use and call in the traffic car. He signs out a radio and jumps in with the female officer and away they go. They handle a traffic accident and when she realizes he doesn’t have a ticket book they go back into the station and he signs one out.
Away they go again. This time he asks if he can drive and she lets him. They write a few tickets and finish their tour.
Now comes the good part
Capt on the 3rd watch sees him and asks someone who he is. They tell him that he was sent over from 005. The capt has no knowledge and they start to question the “officer” When the Capt asks for his ID and star he says its out in his car. They tell him to go get it. Some smart detective follows him out to the car and they find out that he has no ID and his star was a commemorative CPD star. His vest was a vest cover stuffed with newspaper and if that wasn’t funny enough…HES 14 YEARS OLD AND HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR POLICE IMPERSONATING BEFORE
Also from the blog, apparently this kid is saying he drove the car:
*
The senior officer was in full control of the squad car at all times, and the 14-year-old never interacted with the public while present with the assigned officer,” said Chicago police Asst. Supt. James Jackson.
However, Brock says that is not true. She says her son told her that he went on 10 calls Saturday afternoon, including a couple domestic violence calls.
Many of our commentators back mom’s story and verify the kid drove the car. For more than a little while. He also got a locker, checked out a ticket book and rode back-up on in-progress calls. There’s also a number of other inconsistencies in the “official” story that are sure to be debunked in our comment section.
Remember – it’s not a Rule Violation to lie to the media. It’s encouraged. They even run a pool regarding it. The politically connected person who can tell the biggest whopper to the media and get it published wins the pool money for the week. Current record holder with almost 40 weeks at the top? Shortshanks.
Man, I miss Chicago!
Thing is kids in Chicago be lookin’ hella old. Cats from the southside like me was 15 going on 40. So that this kid pulled this off doesn’t surprise me.
I’ll tell you another thing about Chicago. One of Daley’s many shortcomings as Mayor is that he’s ass-backwards when it comes to embracing technology. They still using Commodore 64 and Apple II-e in the Cook County buildings.
chi’s just a really big small town. With lots of segregation and corruption.
Man I miss it–it’s in my blood.
Love the new blog about Detroit, with me being from Flint,MI we alway thought about what NATAS meant by saying “We Almost Lost Detroit” because we always got different story from other people that’s from the D but after reading this and then listening to the song it makes sense now…
P.S. Does anyone know that sample NATAS uses in the song besides the part from Gil Scott? If you do could you email me the title please becuse I’ve benn look for that sample for years…
