Don’t worry. She knows. And since her album’s been delayed longer than a sex trial for the average celebrity, it’s important to keep the Keri-cells in your blood to the maximum level for the time being. Read the rest of this entry »
Earlier in the week, Home Depot slashed jobs nearly 7k in jobs & closed some of its speciality stores due to the recession & slumping home sales. But hustlers know sometimes you have to flip the script & switch lanes, getting money where you can. So what did Home Depot do?
Juelz Santana has challenged Bigg Snoop Dogg to a “beef.”
This isn’t any old rap beef, though. This is actually for real for real.
During footage from DJ Scoob Doo’s “The Three Amigos” DVD, The Skull Gang member pits his crew against the DPGs for an official all-out smoke-a-thon. Yes, you interpreted that correctly. A challenge to see who can smoke more weed in one sitting. Read the rest of this entry »
As the 51st Grammy Awards approach, Mick Boogie and Terry Urban have taken the liberty of building anticipation (and much needed reminders) for the the 2009 Nominees. But instead of just throwing the hottest songs of last year on a disc and calling it a day, The Press Play Show decided to put their own twist on the occasion. As Mick puts it –
Ever wonder how Kanye would sound rapping on Kenna’s song? What if The Jonas Brothers sang over some hiphop breakbeats? What if Thom Yorke sang on Lupe’s “Superstar?” What if Sara Bareilles bought a sampler and not a piano? The list goes on… but the answers can be found here.
And you thought your exclusive/collabo/limited edition/waiting 18 hours in the snow kicks you copped were the shit. We all heard about the “shoe” incident in Iraq with former President Bush a few months ago. What you probably didn’t know was how much love Muntadar al-Zaid got as a result of the shoe-shucking. When we do these things, it won’t always be a chune classified as “Funk” but it’ll always be funky. The Moog & harmonica make this your jam of the day. Now, go clean the house with this on volume ten.

How about taking the initiative to investigate who produced Eazy E’s “Real Muthaphukkin G’s?” Who knew that it’s a guy by the name of Rhythm D, whose sparse Wikipedia page reveals that he actually made a production appearance on Snoop’s Blue Carpet Treatment with “A Bitch I Knew?” (Can we get a Hip-Hop themed “Jeopardy!” already please?)
I’m always late with the emails from my dude John Public because, for some unknown reason, they go directly to my recycle bin. Anyways, luckily I found this before I deleted it…
Jay Rock stopped thru the building a while back and with the upcoming release of his mixtape with DJ Noodles, we wanted to drop his Favorites. We’ve got some more coming from him next week, including him speaking on Martin Louie The King Jr. and Xzibit.
In the first segment, he drops some bars from his joint with Lil Wayne and his first single off the “Coming Soon To A Hood Near You.” He also talks about a fashion company he’s working with and how he never really intended on pursuing rap as a career. Part II finds him talking in-depth about how gang culture has influenced his life, the video for “Blood Walk,” and an assortment of questions I had about Bloods vs. Crips.
In the second part he goes in on the whole “luck = opportunity + readiness” theory and explains pretty much every question I wanted to know about gangs.
By nature, soundtracks are hit or miss, usually a group of singles accumulated to reflect the label’s top acts and upcoming artists who are more than likely forgotten. At best, it’ll spawn a smash single or have a strong base of songs. Regardless of the overall stature, the prevailing theme is maybe one to two tracks that will directly correlate with the film. Following the actual movie storyline may be a riskier commercial move, but when done correctly, the artistic yield is well worth the sacrifice. The RZA Presents: Afro Samurai Resurrection Soundtrack, makes good on the gamble, a collection that sticks so close to the story that it damn near is the story. Read the rest of this entry »
