The Young Prince…
AUDIO By Gotty™ on December 29, 2008 at 10:52 pmYou have to give it up to young Tremaine.
He has received cosigns from the likes of Aretha & Bun B; that should suffice for just cause and prove his mettle. Surprisingly, he’s managed to live up to those lofty laurels by carving a niche for himself, along the way escaping early comparisons to R. He took the lane created by Bobby Brown, left noticeably absent by Jahiem & temporarily vacated by Lyfe. But not only has he overtook the “R&B thug” persona, he’s gunning to stay ahead of the pack with his Tupacian output level.
With his soothingly cool tenor, he’s managed to garner the “hearthrob” label from the ladies while making his way onto male’s playlists by not being too sappy, effectively “remixing” countless rap songs & featured appearances. To be real, if anyone else deserves to wear the title besides Thelonius Pain, Trey Songz is a “rapper ternt sanga.”

Songz does have skills. I honestly always felt and still do that past the lackluster wave of r&b singers that has come and gone over the past 3-4 years or so after seeing one after another helmed “the next usher” and what not Songz was the one who I respected. It probably is because of as you wrote, him “not being too sappy.”
Usher, Musiq, Trey Songz, The Dream, and maybe even Lloyd are the only real r&b artists that I really see myself listenin too past guest spots on a rappers album. Good post and well written. Props
Well damn.
Trey Day was overlooked like crazy & dude has been quietly killing the feature/mixtape scene, but that 3rd LP will be his true proving ground. Either he’ll claim his throne as the Prince or be relegated to a career long stint as a second rate crooner.
*edit* or listen to without a female present for that matter.
and like AMP said his guest spots have been solid for a minute. the joint he did with jeezy, summer wit miami, and the track he did with Twista all were decent. Tho i highly doubt that track wit Jeezy where he talkin about “takin it” would ever hit the radios I think thats part of what makes dudes music appeal to most niggas past most the other cheesy r&b dudes
Homie’s 2nd album wasn’t as strong as his first but he’s kept it funky & worked hard. that’s respect.

Maybe, but I think it was more geared to be a breakout album for him, just due to the amount of single worthy joints.
“Wonder Woman”,”No Clothes On”, “Sex For Your Stereo”, “Can’t Help But Wait”, “We Should Be”, “Last Time” & “Missin’ You” could all find a spot in rotation on the radio.
My nig Trey, ayo I thought Bobby V. was a thug r&b singing, no homo….ok ok maybe i need to *pause
LOL @ daCannonz
love his voice
and he’s so fine
