Finally. A suitable platform for Ms. Ambrosius to display her extraordinary gift for harmonizing over Hip-Hop infrastructures. It seemed like she would fall victim to Aftermath comatose similar to several former labelmates, but Don Cannon along with Little Brother, The Game, and Dr. Dre-ghostproducer Focus, have conjured up an impressive awakening in Yours Truly. No excuse to sleep on this one.

Hopefully this mixtape will be better put together than her last one.
been waitin on this! good looks
Are we all in agreeance that DJ drops kinda ruin a project? Otherwise, the vocals provided by Marsha over production by Focus is great…I mean, really…what the fuck did Cannon contribute to this mix besides his annoying vocal watermarks, like it’s all about him…fall back, don’t be like LowKey, always wanting credit for something
Cannon blew this!!!
Why can’t these djs all be like Mick Boogie? One drop at the beginning of the cd…That’s it!
He blew my high on this…I was really excited about this, until I heard Cannon ass on every cut for the 1st minute!
=(
He’s worst than Drama…
Y’all don’t get it: Music is a commodity.
Soon as a new sound drops, every label/producer etc bites it. The only way for a DJ to brand their product is to shout over it. Geddes and every stock photo hows does the same thing with watermarks.
If Cannon/Drama/Kahled/Clue/Flex, etc didn’t add some sort of verbal/audio tag on their work, it’d be bitten, swallowed and regurgitated by every kid with iGarageBand software by the end of week one.
I can’t hate on Cannon or the rest for this. Some guys are just executive producers putting together tracks and they want their due too. Who knows Focus as a ghostproducer for DRE? Doe his name carry any weight beyond a certain circle? No. Why? Because Dre is the brand. How can Focus or Drama get to where Dre is (besides talent)?
You gotta brand your work. People have to know it’s you/being done under your umbrella. Otherwise you end up like Rodney Jerkins/Teddy Riley, where for all their innovation, random nobodies bit their sound because they didn’t tag/brand their work.
We all love DJ Premier, right? How many mixtapes has TSS hyped where some lesser than DJ just lifted Preme’s whole style from horn to scratch? Preme’s not much for branding his sound or his work so he gets bit 8 ways to sunday… Same for Pete Rock.
Yellin’ away on tracks is just where the hustle’s at now.

^^^ just for the J-to-the-mwoi verse
Cannon could’ve eased up a bit though…
You all need to do a feature on Colin Munroe, he’s pretty good and so is Marsha.
Please download this mixtape, 100% FREE and 100% LEGAL.
Then spout about what you think of Colin Munroe’s music, thanks! :)

I love this mixtape. Yeah, I can do w/out the drops, but Marsha is stellar. She outshines all that.
“Cloud 9″ is the dope.
No disrespect to the rest of the tape (hella good as well).
@ Black C:
(came across this, which sums up your post succinctly):
“illRoots.com: Explain branding and the effects that it has on a younger artists career?
Sha Money XL: Without branding you won’t last long bottom line.”
I agree.
so, with that said…
who’s agenda is more important here? Marsha, who’s put out 3 albums as part of Floetry and still has not realized her potential as an artist? or Cannon (who is a talented musician in his own right)?
this project was meant to showcase the vocal and songwriting abilities of Marsha & Focus’ beats…from what the cover art says, all Cannon did was compile the tracks. I’ll be generous and give him credit for coordinating the whole project and being a liaison as well. But in the end, this is supposed the whet the appetite for her upcoming solo album, on Aftermath (don’t hold your breath).
I respect those who let the end result/product speak for itself. I understand the commodity perspective; but from a strictly musical standpoint, sometimes it has its place, in this case…it’s like dogs barking and shitting on the lawn of a million-dollar house in a gated community.
The shout outs and shit are fine on a hood tape.
All that yelling and nonsense pretty much marred a promo mixtape that otherwise would’ve been on the same level as a retail release.
It’s free so what the fuck are bitchez complaining about???!!! Boo hoo hoo, the DJ is shouting on the tracks!!! Give me a fucking break for real. I personally don’t care because it’s a MIXTAPE, so you should expect that the DJ will make sure that he/she brands it so that it’s uniquely theirs.
ps: Great point Conseco, real talk.
^ you got a point there, the pussy is free, and pussy should never be put on a pedestal, lol
I’m listening now, and like PBG said, Marsha’s voice & Focus’ tracks are so good they outshine Cannon doing his best Kay Slay/Clue/Drama impersonation
@ Teef: The P is still free!!! Your gravatar is hilarious yo!!! LOL!!! DEAD!!!
Marsha is the Truth of RnB!
People people,
London girl Marsha is dope,
Check out one of her EARLY pre-Floetry tracks from WAY back, I’m talking about TEN years ago.

BC…
I get it…But at the same time. Ain’t that much branding in the world! My dude literally shouted over EVERY TRACK FOR THE FIRST MINUTE! About time I was able to focus on what she was talking about we already in the 2nd verse.
Looking forward to hearing this.
yeh, just checked it & CANNON CANNON CANNON over everything :(
Listening to this is like being in the movies and there is an asshole in the seat next to you talking through the entire flick. If mafucka’s wanna brand shit then they should come out with they own shit and yell, shout, scream or do what ever the fuck they wanna do.
