“I Know It Was You, Fredo.”
GENERAL By Gotty™ on December 12, 2008 at 10:47 am“…You Broke My Heart.”
The word has begun to trickle out, summed up quite well by DJ Xplosive. Since no one else loosely related to the blogger side of things has said a word, I’ll break the ice.
In terms of manipulating/gaining the attention of the innernuts, The Hamiltonization Process was a stroke of pure genius by Charles & his team. Fairly well executed, individualized projects every two weeks, premiering @ some of the best & truest Hip-Hop sites around. The Pink Lavalamp was slated to release via the good folks @ OnSmash, the final installment in the three month long Process.
But then the monkey wrench was thrown in the game… and the project debuted @ ThisIs50.com.
Here is where the We — the You & I — might have to part ways. If you’re of the school of thought that says when a bigger opportunity comes, you take it… well, you might want to stop reading. This is your fork in the road.
But I’m with you if you’re from the alternate school of thought that says, “Yes, even an imbecile can recognize that ThisIs50 is a bigger site, better wheels behind it pushing the machine to full throttle.” That’s easy. The hard part is standing up & sticking with the script, holding down your end of the bargain, saying “All of that may be true, but I arrangement was made previous to that & I’m holding my word on that decision.”
I’m not “mad.” Not in the least. Not even disappointed by the whole thing.
I’m more — pardon my e-speak — SMH at what took place.
Charles & Co. took for granted the very people & sites who helped build him up. For his part, he claims no part in the decision-making, saying “That was an administrative decision, and I was not behind the scenes on that.” Partially, I believe that. He’s young. We’ll assume Interscope laid convincing arguments as to why straying from the plan, even though it was almost complete, would prove immensely beneficial to Charles’ career. But another part of me wonders why no one on his side, between management, artist & the label, spoke up & said “We need to see this Process through, then we’ll do another tape for ThisIs50.”
Not only was that not the move, but it was trumped by even more ignorance when artist/label/whoever-the-fuck decided to embark on a fabricated “beef” with fellow Interscope artist Soulja Boy, not surprisingly on the day Pink Lavalamp debuted. Since he essentially told us that he knew better than to even try to go @ Soulja Boy, who has since convinced him otherwise between his Session & this week? Underestimating the appeal of Soulja Boy or overestimating how well endeared Sonic The Hamilton was, the whole idea has left egg on the face of everyone… aside from Soulja Boy. The guy is good with this Web 2.0 battling thing, undefeated in fact. For him & his fans, another one bit the inevitable dust.
Interscope was trying to establish Hamilton as an anti-hero. He was their answer for all the hip-hop fans who reject Soulja Boy’s music. They assumed his online presence was strong enough to compete with that of Soulja Boy and attempted to instigate a fight between the two respective fan bases. Nice try.
All credibility he had was lost when he sold his soul to the suits and allowed them to turn his career into this cheap marketing campaign. In the end he disrespected the blog sites that he owes his career to, embarrassed himself and insulted the intelligence of his fans by expecting them to buy into the gimmick.[XplosiveWorld]
Now that his stock has taken a mighty dent, his e-backers backing away from him, here Charles is back @ square one. Another victim of the 80/20 rule (word to Boney on the assist).
As an artist, he will have to prove himself all over again. To the average supporter of Soulja Boy, I’ll assume that it was more “Charles who?” before & after this whole thing. To those who already didn’t believe that he was a worthy talent, there was nothing lost. He’ll have to earn back the respect of those vested few who did think he was talented enough to become a somebody in this rap game. Those who gave up a portion of their creative space to give shine on his.
“Fredo, you’re my older brother, and I love you. But don’t ever take sides with anyone against the Family again. Ever.”
Most of you have seen the Godfather trilogy & know the storylines. Fredo thought Moe Green would hold him down, leading him to greener pastures filled with money & respect. Expected the same blessings through his dealings with Hyman Roth. In the end, Fredo’s fate was ultimately sealed by his turning his back on his family, his support system. The kiss of death from his brother Micheal was just theatrical greatness.
Charles, learn from Fredo.
iSouljaBoyTellEm drops 12.16.

*hums Godfather theme*
More label f**kery. I guess CH has it all on lock when he has total control, but his age is showing when he gets called up to the majors. And he loses BIG points for his OnSmash/Thisis50 switcheroo. “I had no role in the decision” is labelspeak for “I didn’t have the balls to stand up for my own position.” As Jimmy Jones says: “Have some integrity, b**ch”.
That being said, I’m not so sure that this beef is rigged. It makes sense that Interscope would want to get beef cooking to boost sales. No doubt. But if that’s true, why did Sonic jump back immediately and claim he was being taken out of context? Maybe Interscope realized they messed up. But if the anti-hero theory holds, then I think the label would have seen this through longer than 30 nanoseconds.
Either way, and I mentioned this here: http://www.yourfavoritewhiteboy.com/2008/12/why-are-people-afraid-of-soulja-boy.html, I don’t know why people are so afraid of iSoujla. Are you telling me no one has the balls to ether this dude? Real rappers stand the f**k up.
Whether you like his joints or not, dude needs to be taught a little respect, no?

Hey Charles, Wanna go fishin’????????
SB is like that cartoon dog, the more you lock him in a safe and drop him off a bridge he keeps comming back. YUUUUUUUU can’t kill SB, you can only hope his mama grounds him. lol
Lol, you all should click that link. SB is undefeated b/c he’s good @ this online character thing. He’s funny on his Youtube (have you seen any?), he’s young & got jokes. As a master joker, I can tell you that it don’t have to make sense to be funny lol. It’s how you tell it & how much the audience is already predisposed to thinking you’re funny. That’s dude.
As for Charles…enh, no real comment aside from what’s been said.

LMFAO
I was never feeling Charles anyway, he had that NyQuil flow, straight put me to sleep. And lyrically he was average at best IMO. I’m sure he’ll be in the stock room at your local retailer soon enough. Not his product though, I mean like Charles himself. Grinding for that $8.50 an hour.

this sonic the hedgehog nigga, got the first real major label/machine internet push, and fucked around and blew it on the last tape, which was really his first?
SMH for real.
Gotty, I think 50 might be the real kiss of death, anybody with a rap career who even gets near him or his website is a goner! (have u heard em’s new one?)
nicely done..
And here I was thinking that I should peep Hamilton for the work he put in. Not anymore.
this has been blown way out of proportion. also the conspiracy theory about the orchestrated beef is stupid.
Honestly, does anyone care about this? Does anyone REALLY give a fuck about a guy who WORSHIPS a video game beefing with a 14 year old?
And Scarface sold 40,000 his first week….RIP hip hop
wordup. this some bullshit. then again, im no fan of charles hamilton to begin with.
WOW. damn, charles actually isn’t that dope, but neither is soulja boy. too bad he ruined his relationships online. Bloggers really are the new radio DJs with the sticking-together-game…does that mean someone should start a core DJ sector? jokes jokes & jokes. i know eskay already has his cartel team…

hahahaha….sorry I had to put that together.
Ive said it before and ill say it again, Charles’ voice is annoying as all hell.
I couldnt give a shit less about his “beef”, but as much as i done like his music, SB deserves some respect for his hustle.
CH fucked up.
I guess politics as usual.
My only question is this, does this situation really change the minds of listeners of CH or has he just alienated new listeners with a potentially smaller fan base to begin his career with?
It doesn’t change the minds of his listeners at all. In the end its about the music. And his fans are true to him. I see a lot of haters on here for one reason or another, but there aren’t a lot of CH fans because they are on his blog to get info about him. These sites are big no doubt, but when you get your info straight from the source its better than reading a bunch of SB fans with their lame ass jokes, just like SB himself. Sucks OnSmash isn’t backing him anymore. There should be some respect on both sides, removing all his shit is just as childish as him goin to ThisIs50. Whatever, I dont read OnSmash anyways, I’ll be back on his blog and all you guys can think his career is over. You are Dead Wrong.
Well written. Disagree that Hamiltonization Project was genius, though. Good move, but not earthshaking or novel necessarily.
I think personally that the genius of Charles & Co. was convincing the blogs that he was dope enough to warrant all the attention. His music is very good at times, but a lot of dudes are as nice or dumb nicer and don’t get 1/10th of the love.
It’s funny like this cat thought he would just play all the blogs and walk off into the sunset.
I could care less if his career is over.
He was wack when I first heard him, he’s been wack on everything of his that I’ve heard. All this blog related ish is just hilarity to me.
But in terms of music, CH is a dud. Just my opinion, always felt that way.
Whether these recent developments help or hinder his career, he’ll still be a wack rapper in my book.
“Charles Hamilton Public Enemy # 1″ on his newest joint…..
Whoa. I think everyone should take it easy on him. He’s young, this is just one little mishap, before an actual album has even been released. Let’s take it easy!
Let’s maybe help by making suggestions, a little construction to add to the criticism might help. Charles definitely owes an apology to OS and maybe should release a mixtape through them exclusively. Or he could even go so far as to create a whole video project with them to gain some hype. A daily freestyle video for a month, exclusively at OnSmash maybe?
Let’s not bash him and make him feel so bad about himself like he has to prove so much. It upsets me to see someone defending Soulja Boy in any way compared to Charles. You can’t do that. When it comes to the art, Charles is lightyears ahead of anything Soulja Boy could imagine being.
And I actually think the “beef” was a decent idea. It has worked for Interscope for about a decade. This wasn’t a complete failure either. People are taking it the wrong way. If we all know it was set up by the label, then let’s not get all emotional about it. The “beef” did it’s job, people are talking about it. Now I’ll respect that.
Can someone explain to me Charles Hamilton’s appeal? I’m 32 years old and have been listening to hip hop since 1988 so I like to think I know a lil’ bit…but I’m absolutely baffled as to why this kid is getting any more attention than the other million and one new artists that come out every year…
I like how these blog sites are trying to act like they’re the only ones who CH has to prove himself to and not, you know, the fans of his music. “He’ll have to earn back the respect of those vested few who did think he was talented enough to become a somebody in this rap game.” Who are you again? If you want to let a little marketing mix up block you from whether or not you like someone’s music go ahead…but if someone likes his music, they like his music. Period. I like his music and I don’t take what happened to mean shit in that respect. Sorry that Onsmash didn’t gain a few new internet fans that they could have gotten by debuting the album…but I care about the music not the business…and I thought that’s what the whole point of blogging was…to take the business and bullshit out and bring everything else unfiltered.
SMH @ your whole theory, charles is a beast. you’re salty cause you got ousted for the bigger better brand name. Sorry too bad, so sad… it’s still business. As for the beef, obviously it’s not some serious im gonna kill the other dude kinda beef but it’s not going to hurt either of their careers SO CHILL YOU’RE JUST A BLOGGER!
A beast? More like a Barney.
If that’s your cup of tea, I guess.
Needs a lil’ more bass in his voice to be a beast.
lol at Charles being “a beast”
If Charles is a beast does that make Asher a herbivore? Fuck these faggots! Just because it’s not violent and misogynistic past doesn’t mean it’s good!
If Charles is a beast does that make Asher a herbivore? Fuck these faggots! Just because it’s not violent and misogynistic doesn’t mean it’s good!
it seems like most of those who’ve commented in support of CH do so with more passion, anger & bitterness than the comments against this “controversy” … don’t really see the need to throw dirt @ TSS as if this is some “fluff” blog site. besides, an opinion is an opinion; plus, you still have to respect the fact that there are people who may not even have peeped his videos, or knew about the “hamiltonization” project’s concept in advance, but were just checkin’ for the music.
fuck the bias and speak objectively.
with that said, i personally think he’s decent at best. my $0.02.
so you really think because he didn’t drop on onsmash that he’s gonna get boycotted and this will be the end of his career?
Who cares man, move on and stop the conspiracy theories
hahahahaha funny shit….but what the fuck did you expect. You try to manipulate the masses based on marketing schemes to promote someone who really isn’t that dope and then end up finding out that you guys are being manipulated as well. I wonder what the new schpeal of Asher Roth is gonna be when he comes out as the Borat of HipHop y’know with his documentary making fun of the culture we take seriously and how easy it was to manipulate.
Hopefully the bar can go back to being raised and the blogosphere can seek out actual people with talent…….Not just aiiight but another mind blowing artist. I KNOW they are out there. It’s up to y’all(as gatekeepers) to give it the same chance you give these other jokes.
I respect bloggers for taking a stand on the issue. If you fail to acknowledge history you are bound to repeat it. Back in the 90s all the labels used the college radio stations to push hip hop artists the same way bloggers are big today. What happened with college radio is what’s starting to happen now with the bloggers. Once commercial radio stations started becoming the “place where hip hop lives” the labels & artists started to ignore where their core fanbase was located. Everyone was going for the homerun early by trying to be on commercial radio only instead of gradually moving in that direction thus bringing their fans with them. College radio started to become less relevant & artists didn’t do interviews or promote their as much at the advice of their labels. Now lets’ fast forward from the mid to late 90s to the mid to late 00’s. Today in 2008 the Bloggers are like the college radio guys & celebrity blog sites like “Thisis50.com” are like the big commercial radio stations & they’re squeezing you out & disconnecting a naive artist from his core fanbase. It’s nothing wrong with growing, but what exactly are you growing into. Instead of running down to fuck one chick its better to walk down & fuck them all.
The website switchery = fucked up. I’d be tight if i were OnSmash, unless they were in on it. Im a huge Charles Hamilton fan, respect his Hamiltonalization Process, shows good consistency. The diss track he made was well done, but I think he needs to end this fake/real beef. It’s stupid. Move on, make music, blog, and do what you do best man.
Check out the website http://dnelthemc.blogspot.com too!
goodness. this could be the illest blog entry i’ve ever fucking read in my life. like on some real shit. what a theme. what linkage to one of the greatest movies of all time. this joint was theatrical in itself.
Damn. Now what happened to On Smash is effed up, but you want to send him in exile for something he really probably had no longer control. Unfortunately the way the industry works is do what we say or go your own way. I really wanna know what Jimmie had to do with this. And the whole debacle with him and SB is awkwardly entertaining. Somehow this feels more like a friendly rivalry than the beef we’re use to. But TSS, come on, after one slip up you give up on him?
Thats the problem with hip-hop, its listeners are too conservative. Hip-Hop is a form of expression. Not suppose to be this business. CH is about his music, so it was about getting it out on time. Interscope took over and (from this perspective) failed in creating buzz. But who knows…all press is good press, even if its in a negative light…
You think the beef isn’t made up? Then why has this dude Charles Hamiltion already put out TWO diss songs AND a diss music video…. This Hamilton dude is done to me. He wasn’t that great in the first place and now he just another little label bitch. Wale and BoB running 09 anyway.
But TSS, come on, after one slip up you give up on him?
==================
Not really.
I alone expressed my disappointment w/what took place regarding two things – the tape & the “beef.” It goes somewhat further than you think b/c, again, these tapes weren’t just random events. They were a combined effort on the parts of many people.
The college radio comparison may be one of the more sensible things I’ve read all day.
Why can’t artists just be artists anymore?
Must they be internet marketing experts as well these days?
I really like the music from Charles Hamilton I’ve heard so far.
Its creative, has interesting subject matter and shows artistic promise.
I don’t really care if his record label or handlers screwed up the free music release program that brought him to my attention.
You bloggers take yourselves way to seriously. Now you are The Godfather?
Just get the music to the fans and try to keep your egos in check.
why do you think charles hamilton owes his career to blogsites? did you help him get a deal? or do you want credit for his hard work? Just wondering.

All of the above lol
I’m with HIp Hop Fan, Carolina, etc. I think this entire article is based on alot of convoluted theory and some truly arrogant pretenses as well. I don’t even know where to start – and im not a big CH fan. First off, how can you call him a sellout when you out him on your blog because ONE mixtape is leaked on another site. Right there you prove that your own motivation is monetarily related so whos the sellout? You would tell me to ‘be realistic’ then realistically speaking I would say that the blogsites/websites referenced (along with many others might I add) have already gotten what they were supposed to get from CH and will continue to. Every mixtape he released (plus other songs, freestyles, interviews, etc.) gave you people hits on your website/blog just as much as it gave him exposure. He doesn’t owe the blog/website community jack shit. You didn’t create his music, his touring, get him his deal, or put in his work. There are many sites but only one CH. Now, if he and his management had worked out some type of deal with OnSmash and he didn’t honor his part then it is understandable for OnSmash to be unhappy about it. Yet, even they have to be realistic. The segment of this blog entry where you talk about him lacking integrity and not having the balls to stand up against the label is just plain ignorant. There are countless examples of major label artists with much more sales under their belt (much more leeway for negotiation) who are completely powerless over the labels control of their music. 50 Cent for example was apparently so enraged last year over leaks of songs and videos by interscope that he rampaged through executive offices and even threw a tv out of a window. You can be sure ‘his voice was heard’. What happened? More material leaked and his marketing plan was completely hijacked by the label. And bare in mind, his name and brand have sold well over 30 million records for interscope in the span of a few years. My point is that OnSmash (the only one with a right to even be slightly upset at this) and everyone else in the blogging/hhwebsite community should know that it takes a major label artist years and astronomical sales to have ANY type of say in what is done with their product and even then the label often deviates from what an artist wants or does not want done in order to do what it deems appropriate from am executive perspective – ESPECIALLY in todays music industry model with things the way that they are. Now you want a 17 year old alternative hip hop artist from Harlem newly signed with a miniscule fan base to throw fits in a boardroom (if he even sat down with execs to discuss this, which i highly doubt he even got a call on the matter)? That would only damage his already nonexistant leverage with the label. ONsmash should understand logically that there is a very high probability it wasn’t Hamilton but the label who pushed the button (50 is interscope and thisis50.com is his site). They should keep supporting CH and real Hip Hop (which is what they are supposedly here for) and take any latent hostilities out on the guilty party – interscope. Now any other Hip Hop blogs/websites like this one, should lose this pompous self-deluded sense of entitlement they may have towards CH (and other artists), realize that CH doesn’t owe them a damn thing, and just keep giving us that real hip hop. Especially when these sites have already profited and benefited from CH in the past and will continue to. Entries like this one only damage your credibility to the readers. You tarnish his name while simultneously attracting traffic by using it (like in my case, i have never been to this site prior reading this entry) and many of these other blog/websites have and will continue to leak his music with or without permission. Charles Hamilton is not my style overall right now but he has crazy potential lyrically and I still listen to him from time to time. With a few years he can become a seriously ill emcee (especially if he keeps chilling with Joe Budden, Royce , and the rest of Slaughterhouse). I wish him the best. I’m sure this blog is dope, but this particular entry was incredibly ignorant.
this shit is sooooo silly and irrelevant dog.
If y’all only what you’re talking about… Now I know for a fact that bloggers are STUPID!!!! Thanks gotti for the confirmation….
Y’all really ya made CH???
Dummy!!!! Go make another Charles then stupid ass bloggers, y’all should die!!!!
How ironic that he just landed on XXL’s cover a month ago. And just like that, poof! He’s gone.
I’m telling you, these dumb-ass rappers better start investing more money in good public relations.
Shout out to the nameless rappers and producers that turned down my monthly fee two years ago. Where are they now?

fuck charles hamilton – dude’s fuckin garbage anyway….suck my dick you little faggot ass bitch….oh that’s right, you’re already suckin curtis’s
the fact that you include soulja boy’s release date at the end of your blog entry makes you look like a part of the marketing conspiracy you’re alleging.
interesting you didn’t mention that this manufacturing ‘e-beef’ occurred in close proximity to soulja boy’s release date…a guy whose single was serviced to radio in late october and is currently not even in the *top half* of the hot 100 and has peaked at ***40*** on the hot r&b charts after seven weeks. that boy has no buzz. dropping in the fourth quarter without a hot single = recipe for flop, especially for a singles-driven artist like soulja boy. if he does 50k, i’d be shocked.
these bloggers be catchin’ feelings
signing off with the souljahboy release date was a total bitch move. lol

The whole “beef” thing, I have no intimate knowledge of that. those were my observations. Some of the things expressed, those were opinion. Anything regarding the HProcess, pretty much fact.
I’ll leave it @ that.

Hmm….ok. Thanks for coming thru. But out of my own curiosity, how did you end up here a.) if you don’t fuck w/Charles and b.) you’ve never been here before?
Right there you prove that your own motivation is monetarily related so whos the sellout?

O rly lol?
Yo Gotty,
I know I wasn’t the only one on here ranting incohrently about CHam’s “bamma-ness” months ago.
Crank dat Ice T (ie:SB is a savvy e-battler. know about it.)
