Upon fodder-finding this Monday afternoon, I came across Charles Hamilton’s video for “Brooklyn Girls.”
It was the second time I’d ever heard a Hammy song.
Unfortunately, this was the first.
Isn’t that terrible? Chocked full of descriptive lyrics, witty metaphors, a banging beat and chorus, Sonic’s first single is uber-catchy and has potential to make much more than e-noise. On the other hand, his promethazine flow and lack of class prove his Soulja Boy diss video is straight doo-doo in a blender.
Interscope, you’re fucking up. Bad.
After that “Word? Aight!” mess, most people aren’t going to check for him ever again. I know for a fact that if I weren’t searching for a topic to write on, blogging just to blog, I wouldn’t have peeped Charles’ single after that. Based off his most-listened track, the softest diss in recorded history, why would I want to?
Jimmy I., check your priorities. You pushed drama over quality when you didn’t have to. This is Hip-Hop, where we respect craftsmanship and dedication. You’ve got exactly that in young Charles. But, instead of tapping into that goldmine, you got greedy and tried to turn him into someone he’s not.
And now, moreso than the measly millions you’ve put into him, it may cost Hamilton his career.

He’s horrible anyway. Good Riddance.
I’ve yet to listen to a Charles Hamilton track in full, I’ve heard a bunch of his freestyles on radio shows and I’ve been meaning to check him out because of that. They weren’t the best ever, but they were nice and he was actually freestyling in some of them, which I don’t see a lot of artists do today…but then I heard that all auto tune soulja boy diss track and lost all interest.
Ummm…. I actually like “Brooklyn Girls”. Sorry if I disappointed you Beware. lol
Pink Lavalamp is actually very good, and his most polished work to date. I recommend all give it a listen before judging.
Dopeness!
Don’t let preconcieved opinions about C. Ham cloud your judgement, this vid is dope & this song is what Hip-Hop is supposed to sound like.
After that “Word? Aight!” mess, most people aren’t going to check for him ever again.

Really? Sounds like wishful thinking on your part, Beware. And if that is the case, most likely those people weren’t fans of his music anyway.
On the other hand, his promethazine flow and lack of class prove his Soulja Boy diss video is straight doo-doo in a blender.

Word? Where’s the “proof”?
Wow.
Charles Hamilton?
“Grand opening, grand closing” (c) Hov
^ and not for a lack of talent either. That whole blog buzz build-up kinda fizzled with the thisis50 debacle.
Curtis & Soulja Boy FTW! lol

========================================================
Agreed.
Maybe folks have been missing the “change of pace” that hip-hop used to be for so long that they forgot what it sounds like.
^ Chris Rock….
Damn Hova gets all the credit….even got Beyonce…
They even gave him his own damn color….WTF?
*mutters “I hate Hova”, under breath*
j/k, j/k….
“lack of class”…Where’s the “proof”?

Whooooooa Sonic! You need to sloooooow it down. You speeding for no reason.
You get the penalty flag for going @ H.E.R.
Offsides & un-sportsmans like conduct.
Matter-o-fact your suspended for a couple games and grounded for a month from playing Sega Saturn!!!
Sometimes you are too smart for your own good; CH has talent. They didn’t have to go this WWE sytle promotion to get him over the top. His lyrical skill alone made him the different from Souljah Boy. That’s why it is important for artist to stick to their guns; cause at the end of the day its your name being put out there. Not your bosses. You haven’t heard anyone say Jimmy I has fell off because of this epic fail. Even though he had to sign off on it. It’s all on CH’s head.
^ And that means what?

This is funny, dude goes from Wrestling beefing with SB to Blog beefing with H.E.R. What’s next is he going to wrestle Hornswaggle and a battle John Cena at Wrestlemania. lol
@ Amp:
It means don’t let people influence you into doing things that will damage your word. It means don’t take unnecessary short cuts to acheive whatever you want out of life.
Just caught that line about H.E.R, so I dug up the post C. Hamilton refers to…
“Alot of people don’t like me on the internet, and that’s probably a good thing“
I’ve been trying to figure out why this rapper treats, responds, or just carries himself in a rather sour manner towards people who actually promote him and his music. Idk if i’ve heard him say thank you/appreciate it, that means (insert kind word) to me, treat everyone around him at his show with love. I had a drop from mr. hamilton, he was quite a douchebag in the clip, which really co-signed my thoughts on him just really being a rude person overall.. it’s not an act.. cause i know i hadn’t done anything but post his work. So i said okay lets try again another time, another location, 2nd drop was probably worse. So i’m assuming i’ve found his theory to this madness? “People don’t buy records, they buy people” So he wants people to just focus on his music? Not him as a general human being.. This logic isn’t working for me, nooow i’m not drawn to spend a dime on charles(?) or his music because of his attitude. Which is unfortunate, anyhow i could have it wrong if so someone correct me.
mel: im really to the point where im like…if i dont like you i am not fucking with you
her: yeah
mel: i only wanna fuck with folks that respect what i am doing for them
her: smh
mel: i dont expect cats to be all happy go lucky to see me or no shit like, they dont even have to give me crazy props just a thanks man, thanks for coming to the show
mel: aghhhhh!
her: it’s so eaaasy, just let you do what you do and it’d be nice if they’d acknowledge u and say thanks
mel: right
mel: after the 8th fucking time come on man
her: but even if they Don’t do that… atleast don’t knock what you’re doing or disrespect it
her: 8th time lol smh
mel: no lie might be more
mel: i mean i been all up in his(not charles necessarily) fucking face
mel: shit even mos def remembers me
her: rappers and their attitudes, not even years in it world famous rappers
Was Hamilton’s response out of line? Yeah, but I guess he felt disrespected by the comments she made about him being a douche. It just seems this “attack” on the kid seems personal & not based on the music.
And Hamilton’s response in the comments section…
Nah… misunderstanding. I’m not a douchebag. I was also kinda halfway flirting with you in the video… I’m a big fan of the blog. Sorry if you feel like I just don’t care about people. Not that kind of party. Actually the opposite.Iono I think people catch me RIGHT when someone pisses me off… lol we should hang out some time. Get some sushi…
~~Charles Hamilton~~
***beep***
(thanks for the support you been showing me… I’ll give you a better drop)
^ “Some sensitive ass blogger said that my demeanor is that of a douchebag. Cute. My demeanor is simply “If I don’t know you and you judge me, I don’t f*ck with you”. Honestly, the blogger in question I haven’t had any negative interaction with. So to read HER blog entry about me was kinda disappointing. I’m sorry if I offended you. Didn’t mean to. I was just being me (inside joke with The Hamilton Administration… lol).”

Its different. Its not as good as some of his other ish. BUT…its still hot. I digg it. If he’s arrogant, if he’s a “douche”, then so be it. I couldnt care less about that. I listen to the music. Im enjoying the nice change up that STH brings to the table. I think these blogging wars are funny, its like watching them boys talk ish on Madden Nation on espn. Its a joke, the record labels are playing us and them, or they both playing us. On the counter, I cant stand Soulja Boys music, but that “million copies in a week” video or whatever it was; was hilarious.
@ Bigga
I was referring to the Charles Hamilton blog, not your comment.
HOLLLDDD UPPP!! Tell me Lacey Duvalle aint a video girl now. Aint that backwards from how we want it to go…right there at the end of the video… help me out here
@Amp
NP, I figured it out afterwards.
Yeah it was her. LOL@ if she aint on all fours she shouldn’t be on screen.
Or at least on one leg or some ish. lol…thought i was loosing my damn mind. Leave it to Hamilton to bring in the big guns, buffy the who? gimme lacey duvalle.
What was really so wrong with CH dissing SB? Somebody needed to just to expose this no talent hack! I know most don’t like C. Ham’s arrogance probably cause they let another arrogant rapper w/ an affection for teddy bears and autotune come in and three CD’s later switched his style on us. So now you either have the option to be the hardest gangsta alive or a dancing multicolored bafoon (Or both!) so creativity and talent tends to take a back seat. I don’t like dudes attitude but I do like most of his music. what would really be “keeping it real” is if someone punched dude in the face for talking slick and later he kept talking slick, LOL now that’s gangsta!
I personally dont like him dissing SB because in sports terms, the only thing that could happen, Is CH “playing down to his level”. CH is good enough that SB shouldnt be on his radar, map, or GPS
Charles iz bein misled…(we hope, smh)
I was very impressed with the Intervention Mixtape by DJ Skee, which i would rank as one of the better artist mixes this year…along with the Greenhouse Effect, Bar Exam 2, Slaughterhouse, Audio Heroin, and Luda’z Preview…He has alot of potential, but to knowingly beef with Soulja Boy shows he doesnt have the proper concept of the state of the industry…True hip-hop iz struggling to stay alive, while dumbed down ‘Pop-Hop’ iz takin ova…This was not a battle for him to involve himself…apples n orangez…ppl who listen to CH, i doubt will even download soulja boy let alone cop a disc and vice versa…
The state of urban music iz changin once again, it iz up to these artists to evolve and adapt…b4 itz too late, itz not the same fan base…
I don’t see why everyone’s freaking out about this whole thing.
HE’S STILL GOING TO MAKE GOOD MUSIC!
in 2009, charles hamilton and soulja boy will come together to show off their sonic-inspired and yums-inspired beats headphones….and Jimmy Iovine will collect his money.
artists ALWAYS want it to be”just about the music”, but unfortunately that’s just not how it works.
your talent, yes, but MY LOOT.
it’s music, so listeners typically want a some kind of connection….it all matters…
/physical appearance…..asshole-ish-ness….penchant for doing sucker shit, etc…
like it or not, it’s all relevant….
that’s why entertainers have public relations people working on their behalf.
I respect dude if his thing is making it all about the music, but good luck on that venture.
^ I’m just sayin’, it sucks when a dope song/video like “Brooklyn Girls” gets over shadowed by BS.
^ exactly
@Amp..
After that “Word? Aight!” mess, most people aren’t going to check for him ever again.
==================================
Really? Sounds like wishful thinking on your part, Beware. And if that is the case, most likely those people weren’t fans of his music anyway.
The song is HOT GARBAGE! No matter who he disses or how he carries himself, if someone plays me a terrible song by an artist, my foresight rightfully tells me never to check out their joints again.
On the other hand, his promethazine flow and lack of class prove his Soulja Boy diss video is straight doo-doo in a blender.
=========================================
Word? Where’s the “proof”?
In that chocolate pudding called a diss song
@ Doug Hous…
mmm…. I actually like “Brooklyn Girls”. Sorry if I disappointed you Beware. lol
====================
Nah man. Me too. I think it’s a really well written and executed song/single, which is rare these days for an artist on his own.
@ Amp….
“I’m just sayin’, it sucks when a dope song/video like “Brooklyn Girls” gets over shadowed by BS.”
=========================================
that is my whole point of this post.
that is my whole point of this post.

But instead of focusing on the music YOU are talking about Interscope & the SB beef. And as much as Hamilton has been hyped on the internet, for you to say “Word? Aight!” is the first song you’ve heard from him, I gotta call bullshit. Then to say after hearing “doo-doo in a blender” you’d never listen to anything he does ever again? Seems like it’d take more than one song YOU don’t like to make such a staunch decision. If you took that joint as a serious attempt at going at Soulja Boy, I’ve got a bootleged of “Detox” to sell you too.
* bootleged copy of “Detox” to sell you too. And to sweeten the deal, I throw in the Brooklyn Bridge just cause I like ya hehehe.
song/wordplay/video (females) are pretty damn decent though.
Are we sure homey ain’t narcoleptic though?
or is that just the “I got it all figured out” demeanor?
I prefer to watch Murray Hamilton…
Now, now Brody don’t you think you’re over reacting a little here?
@ amp…
“But instead of focusing on the music YOU are talking about Interscope & the SB beef.”
=========
Yeah, because I think it’s a shame that he got caught up in that mess. If he would’ve never done that, Brooklyn Girls would’ve been the first song I’ve heard from him, and it would’ve made me like him a whole lot more.
……”And as much as Hamilton has been hyped on the internet, for you to say “Word? Aight!” is the first song you’ve heard from him, I gotta call bullshit.”
===========
Call it what u will, but it’s anything but BS. I’ve definitely watched a few of his many freestyle youtubes, but thats because of the hype/ease. Just cause I write for a site that debuts his music, doesn’t mean i listen to it. Far from. Most people who know me know that I stick to my personal script, and RARELY stray from it. BoB is the only new artist I actually check for. Case in point, I’ve only heard Blue rap on that Evidence track he did (i need more, btw…).
I guess i’m just saving the hardrive space.
“….If you took that joint as a serious attempt at going at Soulja Boy, I’ve got a bootleged of “Detox” to sell you too.”
============
Why wouldn’t I??? He released it as a video, for the masses. If he wanted to ether him, or if Jimmy wanted him too, he should’ve done it. He could’ve. I could’ve.
He didn’t, though. Instead of doing himself justice, he rapped lazy, behind a terrible whim-of-a-concept. If you wanna say “it’s not serious,” i say, then why even put it out??? If you’re CH, and you’re gonna give SB the time of day, then do it. Don’t make some cynical BS just to prove you’re above than actually dissing him…BECAUSE YOU DID IT ANYWAY.
btw…AMP….you and me got got Wednesday e-beef. lol.
Where’s my Detox bootleg, godammit????
btw…AMP….you and me got got Wednesday e-beef. lol.

===================================
LMAO!!
Good shit though. I think I actually agree with you…kinda, sorta =)
And e-beef is corny. I’d rather have intelligent discussions/debates & leave the e-thuggery to the pros (ie. 50, Soulja Boy, C. Ham, etc.) lol.
@ Amp…
That’s what TSS is here for homie.
