Upon fodder-finding this Monday afternoon, I came across Charles Hamilton’s video for “Brooklyn Girls.”

It was the second time I’d ever heard a Hammy song.

Unfortunately, this was the first.

Isn’t that terrible? Chocked full of descriptive lyrics, witty metaphors, a banging beat and chorus, Sonic’s first single is uber-catchy and has potential to make much more than e-noise. On the other hand, his promethazine flow and lack of class prove his Soulja Boy diss video is straight doo-doo in a blender.

Interscope, you’re fucking up. Bad.

After that “Word? Aight!” mess, most people aren’t going to check for him ever again. I know for a fact that if I weren’t searching for a topic to write on, blogging just to blog, I wouldn’t have peeped Charles’ single after that. Based off his most-listened track, the softest diss in recorded history, why would I want to?

Jimmy I., check your priorities. You pushed drama over quality when you didn’t have to. This is Hip-Hop, where we respect craftsmanship and dedication. You’ve got exactly that in young Charles. But, instead of tapping into that goldmine, you got greedy and tried to turn him into someone he’s not.

And now, moreso than the measly millions you’ve put into him, it may cost Hamilton his career.
