An Open Letter To The Jordan Brand

Dear Michael & Gentry,

First of all I’d like to thank you for the great relationship we’ve had over the last 16 (give or take) years. You’ve provided and helped foster my love of shoes with many times of joy. But outside of if you ever retro the XVI lows, I’m done. I’ve said this one time before, but I was stuck in my ways like Ms. Houston with the crack. I continued to buy your shoes on occasion, but it’s become increasingly difficult to get what I want without making a day of it. It was cool in college when I had ample free time, but it ends now. Come Saturday, you’ll have to carry on without me, as you’ve brought me to the line and I can’t follow any further.

First of all you get slick/greedy and move the release of The XI/XII Countdown pack up a week to get in on the holiday spending. That’s cool and all, but I don’t have the disposable income I had five years ago. I have to plan for these things now. Let alone the energy to get up at the crack of dawn for a pair of shoes I’m not even guaranteed to get. Oh, I’ll be getting up, but I’ll be taking my ass to work. I understand wanting to appease to collectors and keeping the exclusive mystique of the brand going, but when you continue to bastardize the brand at every other turn of the dime it pisses me off.

It’s a sad thing too, because I thought these Countdown Packs were a great idea to revitalize and highlight the brand. I understand you took a risk, packaging popular and less popular models together, and that some of them sat on the shelves longer than others. But that’s the risk you take, that’s what marketing and focus groups are for. You can’t assume everything will fly off the shelves. But on the flipside of the coin, you had to know there was going be a rise in demand for this pack. But only having 10 pairs in my size in any store across the city is unacceptable (yeah, I do my homework). The XI is one of the most popular shoes ever and you think it’s a smart idea to not make it readily accessible to those who want it? For every happy buyer (& reseller) who’ll get their hands on a pair, there will be numerous more that will be turned off by the experience.

Don’t worry about me though, I still have my Air Max’s, Dunks, Stabs, Wovens & whatnot to keep me satisfied. Hopefully you’ll come to your senses and make the shoes available widespread again. You’ll still get your money and make a lot more people happy.

For The Free! Week Three: TSS x UTA = Sneaker Money!
