I hate rap videos for the same reason I hate The Boondocks. I can’t watch the cartoon in good faith because Riley don’t sound like Regina King to me. He sounds more gruff like Roscoe off Martin, minus the snot-affected slur. Switch over to rap. Too many artists put out bullshit videos that don’t match the song at all. In fact, it should be known by now that I generally don’t give a rat’s ass about videos for that simple fact. It don’t match up with the visions that I had in my head.

But this aggin Mikkey…he did it.

I should say he & his team — Da Visionaryz and Mikkey’s brother, Rico — they got it right. Every image that I’d imagined, they depicted it in this clip. The hype, the “for breakfast they feed us Flaming Hot Cheetos…,” all the way down to the brother sittin on the crate, working the store. They got it. Lyrically painted the picture vividly…then added visuals to coincide with what was being depicted in the rhymes. It just took a song that I was already in love with from the Uncrowned King tape & push it up the ranks.

The Last Shall Be First coming soon.

Go’on head & grab that Uncrowned King Mixtape if you haven’t already. I’m not proclaiming him as anything for the future. I am saying that right now, with no shame, that this cat, his tape & this video, they’ve all managed to fully restore my faith in Hip-Hop.
