Words By Landon A.

Without P’s hyper violent spaced out rhymes, we wouldn’t have been able to take a good look into the mind of a real American psycho. Tracks like “You Can Never Feel My Pain”, “Mac 10 Handle” and “Rotten Apple” give us a sense of what Prodigy is. Both a man and a monster. An enemy of the state and a Hip-Hop deity all at the same time.

As a product of overindulgence, Prodigy’s rhymes have always had a degree of genius paranoia embedded in them. Coming from a cat that is probably a conspiracy theorist, P never ceases to amaze me with who is out to get him now. Is it the FBI, DEA, or the Hip-Hop cops? But, as out there as his words may be, in some sick way you can relate to what he says, touching on topics that run the gamut from depression, drug abuse, violence, whatever. If you’ve watched Scarface more than once you can probably understand where dude is coming from, telling stories that reflect the pain of a felon misunderstood.

With the evil genius behind bars for the time being I appreciate his body of work even more, relishing in any and everything Prodigy related that pops up on my radar. This particular track comes from his newest endeavor with Big Twins and Un Pacino, Product Of The 80’s. The song is a piece littered with 80’s references, video game sound effects and plenty of cocaine present in one way or another. This joint finds P much more paranoid than usual, rapping about guns, drugs and alien sightings over a seriously whacked beat that exemplifies his bugged out nature. Sounding like he just got done doing bumps with Tony Montana, you can almost picture P alone in the dark, struggling to stand up in front of the mic, reminiscing about his dark, violent past hardly able to distinguish between a dream and reality.
