Kanye West – “Love Lockdown” Video
MUSIC By Gotty™ on October 7, 2008 at 11:21 amKanye dropped by Ellen’s show to debut the “Love Lockdown” video. One word. Wow. Need more time to process what I just saw.
However, I do have the strong inkling to watch Busta’s Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See vid and maybe take a trip to a museum.

That was kinda bizarre…
Yall aint like it? I thought it was dope. Forreal with the bass and all the drums and wild noises toward the end of the song I forreal woulda been dissapointed if it wasn’t no African interpretive dance in the video. Anybody know who directed?
I like that it breaks the monotony of recent music videos you see of any genre. – sunglasses extreme close up chain girls pool simulated rain bottles poppin. Kanye’s def. on some different shit with this one but when it comes to the videos when is he not?
‘ye is taking us on an emotional, intellectual trip… and I kinda like it
this cat premiered his video on ellen? interesting…
smh@kanye having a tribe of indigenous africans love lockdown’d in his living room. let my people go!
video’s ok. it doesnt really seem to sync with what he’s saying tho (save for the end when he goes fetal on the couch). song’s fairly dark, video’s fairly… tribal?

he finally admitted that was a CO…bitch ass nigga
is it me, or is that yet another even more mastered version of the song?

ROFLMAO @ work.
Ya’ll niggas need to keep ya love locked down or you gonna end up asking Ellen if she stole yo bitch.
Ya’ll think Kanye is trying to tell Ellen to watch out cause he’ll do anything for a “Blonde Dike”?http://thecelebritycondition.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/ellendegeneresportiaderossi_1.jpg
Kanye’s weed connect > yours.
@ Observing…
you beat me to it, I was thinking the same
he got wild African jungle love for this person locked down in his mind
Morris Day would be proud.
I liked it.
well…
we always ask for something different from the norm when it comes to vids…
now we got it…
marinate.
Ellen gets the Kanye world premier; BET gets that new DJ Unk!!!
BET loses again
Auto tune = Fonzie + water skis + shark
my comment is no comment. I dont care for the song as it is, so I dont know what I was hoping for by watching the video. I understand that every artist has his time when he needs to go left but damn.
yo i knew it.
kanye is on his american psycho.
the single cover for it. is pretty much a rip off of the beginning of american psycho. and the apartment that kanye is in, is like a replica of patrick bateman’s. not sure if ne of y’all have seen the movie, i suggest u do anyway.
other than that, video is illllllll.
^ American Psycho had the same effect on me as this video.
Not sure that’s a good thing.
Interesting and he gets credit for that.
Ok… Listen:
“So I keep it low…Use a secret code…So everybody don’t have to know…”
Maybe I’m reading between the lines too much. But yeah, The song, premiereing on Ellen, comments from the past; Kanye is really starting to get folks thinking.
Still my boy, though,
yo, that video kicked ass. I haven’t been a fan of a lot of his other videos in the last year or so, but I really dug this one.
props to busta for lettin yeezy use the extras from “put ya hands where my eyes can see”
i see dashikis in kanye’s future
American Psycho was the shit!!!
wtf is kanye one of most amazing men of our time, he’s one of those dude our generation will be proud of. cause i sure aint tellin my grand kids bout no damn solider boy !
so now the real question is…
why did the nigga premiere the joint on Ellen?

=========================================
Cosign. I mean, it’s not that I don’t like it. I’m just not getting where it’s coming from.
Please excuse my horrible ignorance.
props to busta for lettin yeezy use the extras from “put ya hands where my eyes can see”
^^^^^^
LMAO!! Cosign….The video/song is just weird. How he go from Thru The Wire, Jesus Walks, Gold Digger, And Can’t Tell Me Nothin…(HIP HOP ANTHEMS)…TO some weird shit like this? I am a huge Kanye fan. I have everthing dudes done…Even the songs that he’s sampled for other people’s songs….but I doubt very seriously that I will own this album….
so now the real question is
why did the nigga premier the joint on Ellen?

Ans: Rachel Ray had already Booked DMX to perform his latest single and show Rach how to cook crack.
For real, when I first heard the hook to this, I was thinking he was gonna have some river dancers in this ish. Glad he took it to the mother land.
The video is nice looking. Good camera work, costumes, scenery, etc. (that Rocafella and Glow In The Dark tour money). I’m sure he’ll come out and say something like he did with “Flashing Lights”: “Y’all don’t get it? Y’all only hatin cuz yall don’t get it.”
Dope clip.
This ain’t hip hop though. Alt-Hop is more like it, cept I dunno if you can call what he’s doing “rapping”. Still, it’s about as far outside the box as you can go & I give ‘Ye props for that. i’m a fan of music period & this song is good music. I’m coppin.
G2OD ViD!
dysshyt aka kanye’s electric circus !!!
yo if someone have a fucking link of common’s electric circus under his under ! thx.in ad. peace
@ Jaycee: no doubt American Psycho was ill, but the whole deal with that flick was that you walked out with little or no reverence for the protagonist. Just some sort of realization that “This muh fucka was crazy crazy.”
That’s why I’m not exactly sure this was the best way to walk away from watching a Kanye vid. Ye been freebasing lately or something.
Lit majors call this shit foreshadowing: Ye is about to pull a Dave Chappelle and disappear to the Motherland.
Jokes aside though, (except for Sidelines one about Kanye’s weed connect, cause that shit is true and funny.) I think this shit is pretty dope. I can’t lie, I don’t know what dude is trying to tell us; and yes, debuting it on Ellen is definitely saying something (don’t trip, that shit was no fluke); but I like that he’s trying to make people think. I’d like to hear his take on it, and I’m sure we will.
Nothing surprising or special at all.. Id even say the video pulles the song down a bit
With his money he couldve put some more work into it and get some real african tribes to perform in the video. Some real tribe women with the hairdos, scars, decorations and all..
Instead of real, raw and strong, like the song, the video looked way too hollywood to me with all the actors (and one white chick?..)
Im not hatin.. just saying..
Coming from a Kanye fan
My take: Kanye’s homosexual (hence the down-low, secret code, nobody have to know lyrics) and the premiere on ELLEN!!! OR…..
He got a crush on a white woman or man? Hence all the symbols of “jungle love fever” (no offense to ppl in mixed-race relationships)
Maybe he just misses his momma real bad – hence the fetal position, Africa = MOTHER-land…and keeping the love locked down is like keeping grief locked down..cuz otherwise you’d just die or explode in sadness. (RIP Dr.West)
Was it just me, or was Kanye more singing than rapping?! Nice beat;catchy could be a ring-tone!
The Ellen premier is genius. Black folks aren’t the core consumers of hiphop and haven’t been for a good 20 years. You go where your consumers are. VH-1 Ellen, The View, MySpace/Facebook, Fox… that’s where the 18-34 year old white kids are at. If the Black consumers follow suit, great, but if not, eff ‘em.
It’s all about getting that sure-fire mainstream dollar.(Why go to BET anymore? even Black folks are sick of BET’s crap-as-programming slate.)
Furthermore, Ellen’s got some crossover appeal. She’s blacker than Oprah and Tyra put together. She does it pretty much on her terms, speaks out on issues she cares about and isn’t trying to be anybody’s idol, unlike them other two triflin’ heffas.
Granted Ellen gets away with more being a white woman, but she’s got an appeal that makes her a good marketing vehicle.
Lastly, consider that this is par for the course. We got PO’d when the grammy’s and Oscars igged black artists. we fought and begged and pleaded for acceptance. Why? Because white acceptance is everything in america. So for Kanye and others to follow in that tradition of measuring their success by the number of “mainstream” outlets/consumers that embrace them is only logical.
not to mention profitable.
lol
maybe its not that deep at all. Maybe dude just felt all africanish and white sheets over the furniturish that day..
Dont we all sometimes?
..
I love the video; I have to say kanye is the next evolution in Hip Hop. The fact that he can rock on Jeezy to Jay-Z speaks volumes. Why he debuted on Ellen, it could be the fact that she has a one of the highest rated daytime shows on TV. Kanye is so far beyond 106th and park these days; I wouldn’t be surprised if he has another 800-900K first week sales. I won’t lie in that I am scared about this album being all on the vocorder /auto-tuner but I have to trust that he has vision.Just like cats trust Outkast as they evolve from album to album (when cat’s found out about Love below and dre 3000 singing revolts were a coming but now everyone love prototype.) I eagerly await to see what kanye comes with on this album.
Everyday I’m hustlin’

-Rick Ross.
My two cents, 2 hours late, is he’s ready to move back to the motherland….
This song is still flaming poop.
Nothing will change that for me.
If you want some real laughs, head on over to NT and witness the slob-fest that is sure to ensue once all the kids are done with their homework.
i said it first!!! and im the shit. he was copying american psycho!! woooooooo
article to prove: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1596504/20081007/west_kanye.jhtml
ps american psycho is an amazing movie and i love the way the leave the ending for u to interpret urself..
i am not to sure what just happened. ‘ye be on the mad acid trip.
song and video makes me cringe
Not my cup of green tea….
He premiered this video on the Ellen show because he’s f’in smart! As for song interpretation he said it: it’s therapeutic and better than suicide. Losing those that are closest to you is hard and there is no manuel to tell you how to get through it :’(
pretty amazing the way kanye west shows the meaning of his lyrics in the video of “love lockdown”!
At first i did hard to understand the meaning at all but now im sure: it`s just alike the borderline problem: he loves her but also can`t be with her.
yes, the empty room shows how alone he feel in his life.
the african men demonstrate his work and the male gender responsibility: he must think logically, must be strong, not show emotions,…
while the black women in the video always interefere the “lockdown” with the emotions kayne west gets anytime he`s alone.
he describes the way he tries to resisit his feelings for a woman by letting the trums play harder in the end even let the fighters shout, but he needs to give in: the feelings, and so with the women with there more colorful becoming apearances can`t be suppressed no way! he always will go back to her, because he`s still helpless without her.
i think that all is underlined also with the beat similar a heartbeat which the song starts with and never disappaers throughout! in the end you will only hear this beat alone. that shows me the way his heart is beating for a girl and won`t ever stop. so in the end he`s still loving her,…
