For the past few years, VH1 has tried to expand its demographic to reach the younger generation with their ensemble of bizarre reality shows and particularly, their tragically unrecognized Hip-Hop Honors. This year, they plan on adding two special Hip-Hop themed broadcasts to air week before this year’s Honors: 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs and VH1 Rock Doc: NWA: The World’s Most Dangerous Group.

The top 100 list should be interesting considering the channel it’s being aired on, but wouldn’t put Mundy to shame. Unlike MTV, this channel doesn’t look to flash as they generally keep the origins intact and represent the real. So expect Big Daddy Kane, Run-D.M.C. and Public Enemy in the midst of the list a lot. They’ll also show archive performances of Outkast, Eminem, Grandmaster Flash, among others. My picks are at the top of the list, Jay-Z’s “U Don’t Know” and Outkast’s “Liberation.”

The NWA show is a documentary that they’ve done already on MTV as well as BET, and I think even SpikeTV. Expect interviews from the members of the group, Eazy-E’s widow and narration from Chris Rock (which I thought was odd considering his pissing on them in CB4). Nothing brand-new, but definitely something you should catch if you don’t know about the rise and subsequent fall of self-proclaimed “world’s most dangerous group.”
