I’ve never been one to fancy Guitar Hero.
For one thing, it’s too hard for me. I don’t have the hand-eye coordination or the patience to learn it. Aside from that, I’ve always felt the game should be called Guitar Loser because that’s what you become when get sucked into the pop-drinking, pizza-eating, cheap plastic lifestyle required to be a so-called ‘Hero.’ Plus, (I know this is like saying “You’ll shoot your eye out” about a Red Ryder BB-Gun), for the price people pay for the game, guitars and PS3, they could have a damn Les Paul.
And lessons. And a life.
All jokes aside though, the tables are turning in my favor.
Activision, the makers of the popular Guitar Hero games, have announced that they’re in the process of making DJ Hero, essentially 1′s and 2′s for your game console. It’s supposedly going to have two tables and a fader, all on a wireless platform. It will also be compatible with Guitar Hero, for those of you who want to get your Linkin Park on.
Turning people’s ambitions into video games is a clever marketing ploy, but will it work?
Aside from cheaper equipment, in both meanings of the phrase, I can’t see this being so different from really DJ’ing, especially if there’s a practice mode. I know it’s not gonna have all the knobs and gizmos, or a preferential song selection to establish your own set-list. But wouldn’t you still be learning the essentials of spinning? Timing, cross-fading, beat matching, etc.?
To me, this sounds like a good idea. Unlike Guitar Hero, where none of the skills carry over at all, this game might actually help you learn the basics…something I’ve always wanted to do, but could never afford.
When DJ Hero finally drops, probably sometime next year, we’re either going to have a bunch of upstart turntable junkies or a bunch of fat slobs with quick hands.

Stole my idea.. I seriously told my boy we should make something called MPC Hero like a year and a half ago. But, obviously we don’t know how to do that shit.
90% sure it’s not gonna be used for hip hop DJing, but more like the whole…drumpad DJing that they use in beat mania

I was a skeptic til I got it for Christmas from my girl & it was a wrap after that. Don’t play frequently, but I can easily lose a day playing.

Guitar hero is a great game, all skeptics simply cant play it…it helped broaden my musical horizon on the other side of the fence which most black folks have hard time crossing…

Mac Minister Sentenced To Life In Prison
Following his conviction last week for first-degree murder in the slayings of Anthony “Fat Tone” Watkins and Jermaine “Cowboy” Atkins, Bay Area rapper Andre “Mac Minister” Dow has been sentenced today (July 31) to life without the possibility of parole.
Co-defendant Jason Mathis, who prosecutors accuse of conspiring and carrying out the slayings with Mac, was also sentenced to life without parole.
Kansas City natives Fat Tone and Cowboy were murdered by AK-47s in a remote construction area on the outskirts of Las Vegas in 2005…
They were lured to the town with a promise by an unidentified party that they would get a chance to network with Snoop Dogg’s camp for a possible record deal.
The murders are thought to be in retaliation for the 2004 killing of popular Bay artist Mac Dre.
While cleared by police, Fat Tone is widely thought to be responsible. Mathis was defiant at the sentencing, stating he felt no remorse for the brutal murders since he is innocent.
He also promised to appeal the verdict.
“I’m not going to put on no façade for nobody. I’m not going to do no 40 years,” Mathis vowed to the court. “You give me life without parole, my mentality is gonna be like f**k it, excuse me. You give me 40 to life, my mentality is gonna be the exact same way.”
The families of Anthony “Fat Tone” Watkins and Jermaine “Cowboy” Atkins have not released a statement regarding the convictions at press time.

Busta Rhymes has left Aftermath/Interscope Records for Motown Universal. Busta was due to release his album ‘Blessed’ in July but it never happened because of disagreements between him and Jimmy Iovine, the head of the label.
‘Blessed’ features collaborations from Dr. Dre, Pharrell, Linkin Park, Timbaland, and more. No word on when the album will get released.
The rapper’s only Aftermath/Interscope album came in 2006 with the release of ‘The Big Bang’ which debut #1 in the U.S.
$700 gets you a Les Paul AND lessons? Word? Shit, I need to find out where I can get all that ’cause that’s a steal.
…I’d like to say I see your point dude, but I really don’t. Playing Madden ain’t gon get your ass into the NFL, and playing Medal of Honor don’t mean you fit for the Army either. I don’t understand why people seem to think playing Guitar Hero should teach your ass the guitar. I really don’t.
before GH ppl thought the Air Guitar readied them for their own tour, WRONG! smh
I like to play gran turismo cause I can’t drive car like vipers and so the way I drive them in the game (I don’t even have a licence in fact), I like playing HL2 cause you know there ain’t no aliens nor robots and I ain’t no invicible, I like playing Bioshock…
This is video games’s point.
Guitar Hero is a part of today’s logic “do the less you can, just consume”.
I got a cheap guitar and a pod xt bought 100$ and I like it and at the end of the day, I record a track, I’m happy with it, I created something, I expressed myself.
I didn’t look like a dumb ass with some plastic toys in his hands in front of my tv.
But it ain’t worst than the sims, the game where you play a life you’d like to have instead of moving your ass to get it.
