AUDIO By TC on September 29, 2008 at 10:44 pmO.K. let’s be real.
It’s no September 29th, 1998 (which ironically was 10 years ago to this day,) but let’s look at the bright side of things. Tomorrow, approximately 10 Hip-Hop albums, along with a couple of R&B records, will debut marking the biggest day of releases for the culture this year (if not ever).
Big Kuntry King – My Turn To Eat
Charles Hamilton – Staff Development [Via Nah Right]
Dem Franchize Boyz – Our World, Our Way
Hell Rell – Straight Outta Harlem
Heltah Skeltah – D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team)
Jennifer Hudson – Jennifer Hudson
Madlib – (The Beat Konducta) – WLIB AM: King Of The Wigflip
Murs – Murs For President
Robin Thicke – Something Else
Sabac Red – The Ritual (this is the type of shit Hater Chris roots for)
T.I. – Paper Trail
Termanology – Politics As Usual
Willie The Kid – Absolute Greatness (Gangsta Grillz)
Now there’s been plenty of time to obtain links for all these albums and see what you’re working with. And unsurprisingly, I’ma have to side with T.I.P. on this one. If there’s an album that you have in heavy r-o, why not support the artist for holding you down? Obviously if it’s crap in your personal opinion or just collecting space on your hard drive, then no harm, no foul. But with everyone inexplicably focused on sales these days, sometimes you have to represent for your peoples.
Contrary to popular belief, the sales of Tha Carter III were beneficial for Lil’ Wayne, not Hip-Hop as a whole. With this wide range of selections, it’s time to show to prove for your favorite genre, budget allowing.
Don’t worry, you’ll get this same message from us come November 4th.
Q-Tip Feat. D’Angelo – Believe
Doomtree Feat. Mictlan, Paper Tiger, and Turbo Nemesis – Game Over
Alfamega Feat. Rick Ross, Bun B & T.I. – Uh Huh (Remix)
50 Cent – 50 For President
Joell Ortiz – Can’t You Tell
T.I. Feat. T-Pain – Propane f. T-Pain
David Banner – When You Hear What I Got To Say
Curren$y Feat. Freck Billionaire – Drug Flow (Props to OS)
J.Rocwell – Give You Up (Produced By Kingpin)
D.O.E Feat. Joell Ortiz & Akua Taylor – Watchin’ Me
Johnta Austin – Come Talk 2 Me (Prod. by Darkchild)
T-Pain – Superman

Chris “sit ya ass down somewhere” Brown has started an underwear line
I’ll have an order of Heltah Skeltah to go
I’ve been meaning to ax this for awhile, (the Charles Hamilton album reminded me) what happened to ya boy Wale? His buzz was major, errbody was on his nuts, then the internets kinda forgot about him just a single here and there.
Why would TI put his album out same time as his boy’s debut???

only way TRL fans would even mildly recognize Big Kuntry. He’s aight on tha mic, as far as weed carrier expectations go..i guess?
Damn, Madlib drops too?!
Had no idea. I will spend money on Murs and Madlib. Everyone else–sorry, you get bootlegged. Scratch that–Heltah Skeltah will get bootlegged. Nobody else on that list matters to me. Normally I’d support the BCC, but this album is okay, at best. Some ILL tracks surrounded by mostly “meh”.
Paper Trail & whatever art catches my eye after that.
I think Grand Hustle’s marketing strategy is solid…except for the fact that most casual listeners of rap prolly have no idea who Big Kuntry is. There shoulda been a surefire single in rotation since last month. I mean, Alfamega is getting more light than BKK, & that “Uh-Huh” single is just ok. To put a project out without any buzz is like a setup for failure.

I just don’t get it, with the flooding of the markets now and the first quarter being wide open. As a loyal hip hop fan I was dying for a new album to drop this past Jan-April, I was so tired of rocking what came out Sept-Dec that I had 2 dig out old shit. I mean really anything that drops in the first 3months has sells if not just for the fact that there’s nothing else to buy and for those of us who shop, the market is wide open, I don’t feel sorry for any of these labels because their just not being smart anymore. I can’t even remember the last promotion I saw/heard for any of the above mentioned albums in the last 2wks. There use to be an overload with the artist on tv/radio/video I mean everywhere to promote their work, put it out for us to sample, it use to be drilled over and over into our psych, that it became second nature to go cop it on Tuesday. That seemed to work before so what’s different, y do they feel it’s ok not to be in our face and out “working the streets” I wonder, have they gotten cocky or just lazy. I don’t know who’s to blame but, I challenge one good artist to drop early in the year and let’s c what happens???
I will be in line just as I was last Tuesday but damn, Imma have to hold out on listening to a couple albums, cause nothing is gonna drop in Jan and Imma need something fresh for my ears-lol
