Stumbled across this joint & gave it a listen just because. And you know what? I really miss the energy JMJ & Run DMC as a whole had. In terms of Hip-Hop trios, they set the bar uncompromisingly high – in terms of music, creativity, marketing, cultural relevance – for anyone to follow. What’s funny is many forget to include them in their “lists”?
Was “Pause” the only joint Jay rapped on?
01 06:01 Ghostbusters
02 06:05 Pause
03 03:33 Pause (Dub Version)
04 03:47 Pause (Radio Version)

Funky Fresh…..
this better be a cover of the ghostbusters theme song
I love to do The Running Man to “Pause”
(“Pause”, the Run-D.M.C. song, not “pause” as in no homo, ’cause there’s nothing gay about Run-D.M.C., or doing The Running Man, for that matter…)
omg, it is! i think i just learned how to breakdance.
some forget to include them on their lists because for many, their only impression of them was the last couple of albums like “Crown Royal” and “Down With The King” and the tv show “Run’s House” and maybe seeing MTV play the “Walk This Way” vid ey’ now and then.
but for those of us who have been fans from hearing the opening drum beat of “Sucker MC’s” to CLASSICS like “Here We Go, My Adidas, Peter Piper, Beats To The Rhyme, etc…” to seeing them live in concert during the many tours like the Fresh Fest and Raising Hell Tour ’86, to wanting to rock the big gold chains and the Adidas shelltoes and sweatsuits and the Stetson hats just like them, we know better. (talk about influential…)
every DJ on the planet (myself included) at one time or another has pictured themselves trying to be like Jam Master Jay (rip), committing every scratch he ever did (no matter how simple it may have been) to memory. c’mon dog, niggas STILL cut up “Peter Piper” in their DJ routines 19 years after DJ Cash Money murdered that shit in his New Music Seminar battle with Joe Cooley.
they may not have been the most lyrical but as far as crowd control goes, Run & D demanded your respect and got it…
without turning this shit into a full blown book, y’all GOTS to give it up to Run-D.M.C & Jam Master Jay forever.
^ abso-fucking-lutely
Run-D.M.C. made it cool to be the dude form off the block/street and just be who you are…
everybody else before them, like Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, and Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force, had to be on some rock-star steez and portray these larger-than-life characters, and be all extra widdit…
Run-D.M.C. set the precedent to be street
Top Four Greatest Groups Of All Time:
Run-D.M.C.
Public Enemy
N.W.A.
Wu-Tang Clan
Pause WAS MY SHIT!
…and i’m not even going to go into how Raising Hell is on my Top Ten list of BEST EVER.
(salutes run-dmc)
Has Raising Hell on wax. My cousin brought it down to me from Chi.
I was happy.
@ Jaycee
remember that scratch from Rock Box you could do by cutting the intro to Sucker MC’s????
You had a whole bunch of cats doing there thing in them days, BUT….
Run-DMC was the SH*T!
They made this whole thing global. Gots’ta respect THAT.
(RIP Jay)
Was “Pause” the only joint Jay rapped on?
Yes.
Run-DMC as great as they are are not the top hip-hop group ever, maybe the most successful or famous.
To Me it’s like saying LL is better than BIG. LL is great but he’s not Notorious
A Tribe Called Quest
OUTKAST
De La Soul
The Roots
Public Enemy
Wu-Tang Clan
N.W.A. (Not Enough work as a group)
All better musically than Run-DMC again that’s just me
^ those top four you listed, I’ll give it to them as far as musicality & innovativeness…the bottom 3 & Run-D.M.C. took that shit global without compromising artistic integrity…
thanks fr this zip, the DUB of PAUSE is siccness….
the instrumental of GB is also tough, very Miami circa the Miami Bass Waves period [Steven Grey et al] …
wasnt there a DUB version of Ghostbusters [edited and produced by Shep Pettibone if i recall correctly]…
