What I do notice is a frightening trend to sign acts to recording contracts not because of talent; but because of net buzz ie Cassie, Souljah Boy. It's one thing with they could actually rhyme and they used the retro style to introduce folks to their music. But it seems that they said hell we got people's attention lets put out a song. We do need some new influences in hip hop for da kids, and as long it's not a gimmick I'm all for teaching the young bucks about some classic hip hop shit. I'm not even gonna front, I can remember bumpin some Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince when I was coming up. We may laugh now, but that shit was crackin when it first came out. Even the good Doctor was cuttin that shit up back in the day on his Rodium Mixtapes....
