It’s Monday. Sigh. I was enjoying the weekend.
Nonetheless, with the new workweek comes a grip of noteworthy hip-hop news. I’m still kind of groggy, and I don’t feel like writing up ten different posts though. Can you say, cover-all?
• “Swagger Like Us Pt. 2”…confirmed. Jay-Z told BET.com that it’ll be featured on his upcoming album, Blueprint 3, which will be released on Dec. 2. Nas, Jeezy and Andre 3000 have already recorded their verses. *Pumps fist.
• Mr. Obama shouted out Hip-Hop. Says he’s got Jay and Yeezy on his iPod, but has no opinion on who’s the GOAT. I guess my pick for president is saving his debate game for Cashville.
• As you know, Weezy now blogs over at ESPN. Gotty™ could give him some pointers because the shit’s boring. Check it out anyways.

After last year’s test drive, Slim Thug and his dukes of hazzard, The Boss Hogg Outlawz, are Back By Blockular Demand on their second installment of Serve & Collect with enough capers of droppin’ tops and stuntin’ for haters in candy-painted automobiles to signify any sports classic weekend. The best way to promote any event is to grab a big-name attraction.
Whoever was running this event figured that promoting Kanye West as a headliner would draw the attention of Hip-Hop fans everywhere. Now, given that Mr. West is a temperamental rap star who does not need the money, it’s not a surprise he “canceled” his appearance. But not letting the paying public know that the main attraction had canceled until the day before the event is fraudulent, even if it may be standard fare in the industry. Of course rather than have to face off against an angry mass of Hip-Hop fans deprived of their hero, the promoters can just write it off, since they can still take advantage of the fact that…
2.) Too Many People Are Trying To Rap.

Contrary to what the mainstream media wants us to believe, there’s still a large contingent of rap fans who like their music rough-around-the-edges. Commercial radio can snooze, but many listeners prefer hard, boom-bap beats instead of the glitzy stuff that DJ Premier dubbed “Tinkerbell” music. Don’t get juxed by 106 & Park; there are folks who support gifted emcees with a semblance of rhyming ability.
Termanology, a throwback emcee hailing from Boston, seems to grasp this ideology. For his debut album, Politics As Usual, Termanology enlists an all-star production team for the ages including Pete Rock, Havoc, Nottz, and Primo. Not that they have anything to prove, but the accomplished producers on Politics… toss their gloves into the Hip-Hop arena, reminding the masses that their gritty style packs heat.
