Words By Jason Hortillas
Maybe the boneheaded rookie move by DeSean Jackson overshadowed Monday Night Football’s horror of a national anthem, but Kat DeLuna needs to call it quits. Known for that “Whine Up” track which was total pop bullshit, she tacks on to the legacy of a wack career by butchering the “Star Bangled Banner.”
Now we all are used to singers giving their own rendition of this pre-game staple. But DeLuna overdoing it on practically every line while her voice cracks on the pivitoal “Land of The Free?” Unforgivable.
Maybe I have a vendetta against this chick because she feels like dropping patois in a song title will give her cred. I forgot about this no-hit wonder until this debacle of a performance. I’m just wondering where does this stack up against the Hall of Fame of flubbed anthems? Roseanne Barr? Musiq Soulchild?
With classic anthem performances like Nike’s resurrected Marvin Gaye version and Whitney Houston’s career defining interpretation, it just lowers the bar for trash singers like Kat DeLuna.
To make me feel better about life let me just post the Marvin version:

Greumst!
It’s wasn’t as bad as you are making it out to be. It is no way as bad as Carl Lewis’s rendition.
Kate DeLuna: Hey Guru- Throw some T-Pain on my SHIT!………….Land of the FREEEEEEEE…… Leave that T Pain on, I never had this shit!
Marv the King……. I wish I was old enuff to have had caught him in person
lol ^
auto tune couldn’t save her; she thought she was singing @ the apollo instead of redneck central.
Patti Labelle 2002 NBA All-Star Game from Philly FTW!
err…can’t find it…but it’s an overlooked classic
Yeah, I don’t think it was that bad, until the end. Apparently the crowd didn’t like it too much. Either way, I have no idea who the hell this woman is, and I don’t care enough to find out.
shorty REALLY thought she was killin it tho….
me and TC were laughin @ this last night.
she looks like a muppet to me. a cute muppet. but a muppet nevertheless with her button nose.

she mangled the anthem
My question is, this is the last Monday night football game in the history of Texas Stadium, it’s the mufuggin Cowboys and Eagles, yet this breezy is the best they can do for the national anthem? Really? That Carrie Underwood broad wasn’t available? Someone with a good voice, anyone?
That little girl in Portland who forgot the words but was helped by head coach Maurice Cheeks before the start of the Blazers game > Carl Lewis > Kat DeLuna > Roseanna Barr
she got booed because she messed up the last line of the song… she sang “land of the free and the LAND of the brave”…. should have been “HOME of the brave”
her remix of the words got her the boos, not her horrible sanging.
Mike didnt listen

….musiq sang the SSB?
i’ve seen him in concert. that MUSTA sucked… eek, yo!
lol @ patois and credibility….
and no words re: Marvin Gaye…. just…. they don’t make performers like him anymore.
tragic.
I don’t know why my cowboys keep hiring these weak pop singers to sing in our sacred playing field i.e. Ashanti last year…
but ol’ kat still wasn’t as bad as Carl Lewis, Roseanne and who can forget Musiq forgetting the words at MJ’s High School B-Ball tourney!?
As long as they look good in a skirt Jerry Jones will hire them.
But Carl Lewis is still the all time worst, he sounded like he was choking an alley cat. I remember watching it on TV seeing everyone in the arena cracking up. Derrick Coleman was in tears on the sideline.
here’s Musiq’s err…rendition
