Cool clip, but I’m not that excited about the new album. I mean, the Luda/Tip collab is dope but Luda never seems to deliver the classic album so many think he’s capable of & I’m starting to believe he never will. There’s just a lack of depth & when he does tackle some deep ish, it’s either extremely vauge (i.e. War With God) or comes off kinda pre-meditated & preachy (i.e. Runaway Love). Don’t get it twisted, Luda makes albums that are good enough to get some spins, & he always has a couple of quotables per album but it always feels like “been there, done that” with Luda. And this is coming from a cat who OWNS every Ludacris album (except “Incognegro”). I hope he proves me wrong this time around.
Shout OUt to BAM BAM!! HE FROM TOLEDO, OHIO!! 419 STAND UP!!
this looda’s track is aight!
this beat is just banging… in the pure form, in the beautiful definition.
Ludacris is not a classic album type of artist.
His defining moment(s) are the impressions left from whatever season he drops his music.
I’m sorry, but his album is gonna get lost in the sauce with all the other big names cramming the 4th quarter.
I see quite a bit of J-Love around here so I’m gonna go out on a limb and see if anyone has TOP OF THE GAME VOL.1 (BEST OF JAY-Z).
I am also looking for some hard to find SAUCE MONEY unreleased material. I already got the Best of Sauce Money (DJ Kay Slay).
remember 2nd round k.o?
^ Yeah, same concept, but Luda does it way better. Yhere was something so corny about seein string-bean shaped Canibus in the ring. That cat ain’t knockin out nobody.
And as much of a beast as he was….
Pretty Boy’s Swag > Iron Mike’s Swag
Not everybody needs a classic, all Luda’s joints have been solid, esp. Chicken & Beer and Red Light.
^ But there is a way to be a lyrical MC & make a classic album. I’m just not sure there are any examples of that.
Just thought of one…
Redman “Muddy Waters”
Muddy Waters: 4 Cigs
Only 4 cigs? I disagree, but for the sake of arguement, I’ll go with it.
But enlighten me, are there any “lyrical” classics out there?
Muddy Waters: 4 Cigs
=====================
4.5 Cigs IMO…. the closest Redman has ever come to the perfect album.
I like this new Luda joint. Good concept for the video as well.
@ Amp… I’m starting to think that “the classic album” is Ludacris’ “unicorn”. As long as he keeps chasing it, I’ll be satisfied. He’s definitely doing a lot better than plenty of other artists at this stage in the game.
Luda will never make a classic album. Great rapper. Amazing delivery, he just needs to branch out and come up with a new idea. Album’s ALWAYS disappoint.

==================================
Well said.
I guess I should shut up & wait till the album drops before I pass judgement. It’s just that “Release Therapy” was hyped as the defining Luda album & it fell way short IMO.
Ludacris has no weak albums. I could even go 4.5 for Word Of Mouf. That was like Jordan versus the Blazers. They just keep coming.
@ Amp
Of course. What about the supreme lyrical classic Illmatic? Only a few songs actually delve into something tangible and his last two albums have been more accurate depictions of who Nas really is.
But Illmatic was still rooted in street tales & observations on NYC life. Luda usually sticks to boasts of his skill on the mic, his prowess with the ladies & crazy punchlines & metaphors. His first three albums were more street, but it seems like he’s become more “mainstream” with every album after that.
All togther… Luda has a great discography, but I just think that if he finally does get that “classic” album, that he may start slipping. I don’t want that.
Back For The First Time and Word of Mouf were classic albums especially Southern classics. Both albums dealt wit life on the streets wit a few cuts about the ladies. But they were in a different way like “Ho” and “Area Codes”. Chicken-nBeer and Red Light District were great albums too because any verse Luda drops never disappoints.
Release Therapy was or will be considered a classic cuz it won the Grammy for Album of the Year.
how many cigs for greums ??
Grammy’s don’t mean ish to me. Mystikal’s “Tarantula” got nominated for a Grammy.
N*gga please.
Luda will go down as one of the most consistant.
Like he said, the purpose of dat album was for him to get that Album of the Year. There ain’t no better award that certify it a classic when people look back. He the first rapper to win from the south and only one intead of Kanye for the past 5 yrs. Mufuckas be hatin on Luda’s albums tryna find a weakness but each one of em achieved its own thing.
Aint no one been able to fuck wit Luda dis decade without taking breaks or falling off. Most the hot artists now just came a few yrs ago.
Just cause he’s the first southern mc to win a grammy means nothing. How many grammy’s has Outkast won?
He the greatest southern artist not group of all-time in mainstream. He has sold more than TI and Lil Wayne combined.
Even Jay-z was jealous of him during those early 2000s cuz of all da attention he was gettin. Best Rapper of the Decade= Ludacris
OK, now it’s gone from defending your point to just straight nut holding.
Best rapper of the decade?
You are reachin’ Fam.
This is like Ghostface’s “The Champ,” just more intelligible for the for the casual listener.
Yeah I can’t co-sign that one either yuist.
That would probably go to Kanye, Game, or even Jay if you wanna be truthful. I own EVERY Luda album as well (san Incognegro) and he’s AMONG the most consistent. But to say he’s sitting on the top without any definitive classics is a very hard pill to swallow.
Thos artists you named cant even qualify. Jayz retired for 3 years. Game and Kanye came out in 2005. Luda been doin it since 2000, remained among the elite and still is in the elite. Many rappers have fell off since then. Not only wit classic albums, but Luda got the most Top 100 Billboard hits of any artist in music this decade.
Yeah and both their first albums are better than any one he’s done. Although, I’ll never knock him for it, he spent too much time being the “Tony Tiger” of rap and was never to be considered amongst the elite. He’s be consistent yes, but never was he playing on that premier battlefield of his peers, even ones like T.I. who’s discog is inferior but still gets more credit cuz he didn’t joke as much.
Back For The First Time is easily as good as any debut. It’s considered a classic now that really got the South attention. The fuckin Game just made his last album and Kanye decided to fuck Hip Hop forever and went to singing wit da autotune shit. Dem mufuckas couldnt even last rapping.
Luda could lyrically hold his own against any artist this decade, he’s never been outshined in a track. Since he is different from the fake street gangsters, He now can rap about anything he wants- streets, girls, guns, houses, christmas and not be made fun of. Thats why he gonna have a long career.
Back For The First Time is considered a classic by who besides you?
I mean, I like the album no doubt, but it’s probably his weakest one. How often does “Get Off Me” and “Catch Up” come up in rap debates? That ain’t the DNA of a classic album, just a solid debut.
Oh yeah, Jay might have retired for 3 years but he still dropped The Dynasty, The Blueprint, and American Gangster this decade. I mean can Luda really measure up to those?
Back For The First Time had a lot of good street records like “Catch Up’ and Souhtern Hosp. But Word of Mouf was his biggest classic wit records like “Growing Pains”. It aint just bout albums, Luda got way more hits then any artist. He aint never dropped a bad verse but that cant be said for mostly all artists.
^ You’re kidding right?
Like I said. He’s very consistent and I would probably have to think/search hard for a bad verse from him. But are these verses really worth quoting/rememberance? I listened to his part on that Jennifer Hudson album the other day and while I chuckled and thought how he always has something clever to say, I can’t remember one word of it, nor did I push rewind. He holds his own but as far as making impact, that’s his Achilles Heel.
yuist = Lil’ Fate Wilson
I mean, it’s gotta be him.
When he does street records or meaningful records like “Runaway Love” or “Do Your Time” is when certain people can find quotes. But he can rap about everything and his albums all have good variety. In the future when selling is not his main priority, he can make all street/meaningful records and get more classics.
Shout out to Lil Fate n the whole DTP. Luda has also built an empire at DTP even tho they dont get promoted as much as rockafella they still have sold better.
AYO!! Big up’s to the homie JayCee, but I can’t see DTP outselling The Roc. The only artist other than Cris to move any units was Chingy.
All the artists from The Roc except for Jay-Z andKanye who Damon Dash found haven’t sold as much as Chingy first album- 3 million.
Cumalative sales, outside of Jay & Cris, DTP hasn’t sold as much. Their roster is hella shallow. Fam, you don’t think you’re just going off the deep end with the Luda luv? Kanye outsold every artist on DTP.
i don’t give a fuck what u say, this song/vid is dope! Luda’s always doing big things!
At least each of their artists get one good hit to make them well known like Duffle Bag Boy, So What, Gettin Some, Slow Down……………….
Jayz always been jealous of Luda especially in Luda’s earlier days cuz he was outselling JayZ in his label. Thats why he dont give props to Luda but gave it to Eminem and Nelly back then and now he aint includin Luda in the SLU songs but got Jeezy ,TI, Lil wayne on them.
At least each of their artists get one good hit to make them well known like Duffle Bag Boy, So What, Gettin Some, Slow Down……………….
=====================================
Those are hits?
Hov jealous of Cris?
You’re doing some Mr. Fantastic level reaching right now.
Like I said, Ludacris isn’t a classic artist. LOL @ Tony The Tiger of Rap.
Ludacris usually makes you feel happy and entertained.
I just don’t go through a range of emotions with his songs like I possibly would with other musicians.
I just don’t go through a range of emotions with his songs like I possibly would with other musicians.
=======================================
There! That’s what it is! I couldn’t pinpoint what was missing from Luda’s music, but BEZ nailed it.
Dats one of the reasons Jayz retired cuz Luda took over Def Jam. If they been labelmates for 8 years he sould be praising Luda more and putting him on SLU unless he’s saving Luda for something big.
Each one of his albums got songs wit emotions on it, especially Release Therapy (Slap, Do Your Time, War with God, Grew Up a Screw Up, Mouths to Feed, Runaway Love, Freedom of Preach…….)
Plus, for his new album he is the first Southern artist to ever work with
DJ Premier.

==================================
Uhh…Wrong!
lol @ “Plus, for his new album he is the first Southern artist to ever work with
DJ Premier.”
well now u’ve completely shunned whatever point u were trying to make..
That only adds to his list of career achievements of being the “first to” in the south. He fuckin bought the south to where it is commercially. Years from now he gonna be remembered for dat shit, he aint just copy mufuckas like Jayz, Game or someone.
Uhh…Wrong!
========================
yep…just look at Amp’s gravatar. Anybody remember Doobie Ashtray?
Or what about the joints he did for Jermaine Dupri and Cee-Lo.
Luda is Top 10 right now IMO.
-The 2008 TSS Fantasy Baseball Championnnn.
LUDA HASNT GAVE ME A CLASSIC ALBUM BUT FOR THE THE LAST 4 MONTHS LUDA HAS BEEN OUT TO PROVE NOT TO EXCLUDE HIS NAME FROM KING OF THE SOUTH TALK WITH HIS GANGSTA GRILLZ AN NOW THIS TRACK ITS LOOKING LIKE LUDA IS COMIN AT EVERYBODY WHO THINKS HE CANT DELIVER CONSISTANT BARS
