Originally I intended on posting Boyz II Men – “Uhh Ahh” on account of it’s a hilarious video (“…injection, fellas”) and made me feel funny on the inside when I was in middle school. I used to turn that mug off so fast when my parents came in the room. Of course, the Boyz followed a couple years later with a particularly rousing “I’ll Make Love To You.” It still befuddles me to think of a DJ putting that cut on for a cafeteria full of sweaty 8th graders.
But for all the “Cry For You“s and “Knockin Da Boots“s and “Freak Me“s that kept teenagers whispering awkwardly on the telephone late night, this joint really did me in. Keith Sweat in his prime… taking the art of seduction a wee bit gully.
In 1996, my 14-year-old self was certain I wanted to lose my virginity to this song one day. And I most definitely wanted it to be with Mekhi Phifer. Long story short, my moment of glory was to the tune of Tupac’s “Got My Mind Made Up” or something akin. And Mekhi Phifer was not in attendance.
Nonetheless, this song still gets me. Not so much for Boyz II Men.

@ Tres… I saw Mint Condition about a year or so ago here in the DC area. They have a great live show. I always thought the best thing about them was the fact that they played their own instruments. They have a pretty good catalog too.
