Sometimes an artist’s caliber of music is completely overshadowed by their less than normal lifestyles that make the consumer not even give them a chance. I am definitely guilty of being a fan that let his pre-conceived notions of an artist keep them from recognizing a great piece of work.
That was before yesterday.
Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black is like a lyrical window allowing the listener into one of the most disturbed artists of our time’s dark mind. Fortunately, no matter how ugly Ms. Winehouse’s life decisions and activities are, her voice is as beautiful as a sunset on the horizon. The sonic masterpiece that is placed under her melodic crooning is provided by two of the best cross-genre producers of our time in Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson. “Rehab” doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of this critically acclaimed, grammy-award winning gem of an album. This is the true definition of a modern-day classic and is definitely worth checking out, if not buying.
So, if you’ve seen the onstage coke-snorting videos or the countless pictures of her looking like a hooker who got beat by her pimp after getting gang-banged by six men who didn’t pay her and instead through her out of a moving vehicle, and decided not to check out her music, let me be the one to show you the light.
