A majority of the Hip-Hop world thought we were finally gonna get “that real Fab spit” when this joint released as the first joint off of Real Talk. The piano sample sounded so promising & Fab’s voice & flow were completely @ home on the track. Needless to say though, John Jackson pulled the chair right out from under us, as the album had more “Young And Sexy” than “Do The Damn Thang.”
Walking that tightrope between commercial success & critical acclaim is a daunting task. Either way, in 2004, this was song was one that caught wreck on radio station, video channels & trunks across the country.

One and then the two
Two and then the three
Three and then the four
Then you gotta BREEATHEEE
One and then the two
Two and then the three
Three and then the four
Then you gotta BREEEEATHEEEEE
Then you gotta (gasp)
Then you gotta (gasp)
lolz
I always thought this track was piff, and I 100% agree with Fab’s voice/flow bein on point on this…most people I know don’t like it for some reason…
I still regularly listen to the remix to this day
I think this is easily one of the best songs of 2004
the video was piff.
Diz…tell those ppl to play in highway traffic
Just Blaze, who else ?
Not to hate on Fab, but “Breathe” was all Justin Blaze. You give that beat to virtually anybody and you would’ve had a hit.
Man, Fab will (hopefully not, but likely) go down as one of those rappers that never quite harnessed all of his talents. He’s the most egregious victim of the album by committee format I’ve ever seen (song for teh ladies, street song, song for the ladies, etc.). If he could ever just release an album with no bullshit club songs he’d be laughing.
That said, Breathe is pure, unvarnished, fire.
“Breathe”= classic song. Period.
Man, me and homeboy was talkin about Fab’s career today. Co-sign @ everything u said Mundy.
Whatever state of mind Fab was in when he made this song, he needs to get back to that… He’s gotten into the habit of remaking his previous album and trying to straddle that line between pop and the streets.
Only problem is that line is often non-existent.
Breathe was the shit though. Heavily cosign Mundy.
Can you hear me is another ill track. That and breathe are still on playlists to this day
Fab, to me, was never a special emcee. Not better than the typical NY rapper with a demo. But he did make the best out of his opportunities, and unlike alot of cats, he didn’t come from an underground following, so I guess he feels that he needs to keep himself on the radiowaves. What I like, is that as an artist, he never tried to be something he’s not. He’s not a beef rapper, or a battle rapper, or thug-centric dude. Just a flashy Brooklyn cat with emphasis on the witty raps and he runs with it.
How I address the haters and under estimaters
And ride up on them like they escalators
They shook up and hooked up to respirators
On they last breath talking to investigators…
god damn
FAB NEED TO STOP SPITTIN THEM LOVE JOINTS AND GET HUNGRY LIKE WHEN HE FIRST CAME ON THE SCENE ON DEM CLUE MIXTAPES.
BREATHE WAS ILL THO, BUT IMO–HE AINT DONE SHIT SINCE.
tres your full of shit…that beat is a beast but fab did his JO on that track.
@Tres (first comment)
yeah but like all the just blaze’s beats
… i think
fab needs to become jayz !
OK, imagine Jada or Nas or Jay or Game or Kanye or Wayne or TI or Cam’Ron or Luda or ______ spitting over that beat. Still would’ve been fire.
Thought Fab was gonna bust through on this one.
He’s got his own lane for the most part though and if we’re lucky
he might get lucky and drop an album that will define his legacy

I copped an interview with DJ Revolution. it’s long but it’s a good read, i think. He goes in on Kanye and mainstream emcees for turning their backs on DJs.

I enjoy his voice and like his charming smile! I saw his profile at a millionaire and celebs site named Richromances.com. It is said he is interested in dating pretty models over there. But don’t know if it is true.

Don’t forget the most hilarious spam on the internet!
was there a remix to this song? if so put up a link
Anybody else remember the original joint with Alonzo Harris at the beginning?
This is the only cd single i own.
i dunno, i still thnk real talk is his best album.
Yeah song was bananas He did his thing. Just bodied this shit! I have heard the album was his best one but I’ve never heard it. I have the rest of em…..gotta get that one. Im my opinion though, Fab, best thing walkin right now. It’s hard like you said, walkin that fine line of lyricism/creativeness & Sales. He’s doin both but sacrificing his streetness because he ain’t from the south and that’s a real tight market to find success…………..
I cant hate on Fab. I’ve been riding with the kid since the Clue freestyles. I remember hearing Superwoman on the radio in someone’s car with Flex dropping bombs and replaying it 10 times. I wound up searching the net for it when i got home. I had to find more music from this new guy with the misspelled name, Fabolous.
