I’m sorry y’all. Maxwell is dope.
Dude’s a little out there and his got some issues as i’ve heard from industry heads in the know, but dude’s can sing–novocoder, no protools–dude can straight blow.
And when his head is screwed on straight, he writes some great stuff.
He’s never gonna have the 30 year career or anything, but i’d put his current catalog up against 90% of what’s been put down in the genre since 1990.
Maxwell + candles + good meal = luvin’. It’s that simple, kiddies.
Maxwell gets it done.

lol @ simpin’ … Dude make simpin sound good. he can overdo it on occassion, but he can do it. i’ll take him over t-pain, timberlake, thicke and some of these other half-singing fools. add pharrell’s no singing butt to the list.

woah, never realised so many people hated Maxwell. I see how some people might not be able to take the high-pitched tones, but his music is cool as f*ck. Embrya is still one of the freshest neo-soul albums to this day.
Like Canseco said, Maxwell may not be a great, but compared to the sh*t RnB there is lately he is a genius. Seriously, RnB is pretty much dead, in its proper emotional form anyway. And its been replaced with pop singers flashing their gash and torsos with no passion for the music itself.

Never was able to get into Maxwell for the same reasons others mentioned.
Only songs I ever listened to and enjoyed were 2 non album tracks he dropped. One was on RedHot & Rio and the other was on Sweetback album.
BUT I LOVED his cover of Al Greens Simply Beautiful at this years BET awards. And the Pretty Wings snippet off his next album sounds pretty good. Hopefully Black Summers Night will be the first Maxwell album I enjoy…if the album ever drops.

Really? Are there any “slow jam” type artists music you like? I think dude is talented. He even works w/ Stuart Matthewman (Sade) which is pretty cool. Every album he’s put out has had some dope music. And I really like Robin Thicke, too. He’s got a smooth voice and writes great songs. I can’t for his album to drop. I don’t get a chance to listen to some new Soul & B very often since D’Angelo cracked out, and Anthony Hamilton got lazy. Robin is pretty much it nowadays. Maybe a little Raheem Devaughn, but he’s even getting into the Rap & B category now.

SMH @ Maxwell getting hated on. Everybody can’t be the thug type all the time. Besides him whining and getting the pannies to drop is WAYYY better than me trying.. Shid.. I used to live of this dude in college.. I would cook a lil simple ass pasta dish turn down the lights, lite a few candles.. and get straight up busy. True he go too far with the high pitched stuff but .. it worked wonders.

I listen to alotta R&B “slow jam” type joints, but I just prefer more balanced kinda music, not the dudes who straight up pander to the females. All the crying & beggin ish is corny to me. That new Robin Thicke joint “Magic” is cool cause he manages to stay mackish while spiting his game & I can respect that.

Max’s first album was classic ish to me. Shit was so jazzy and he sang over it different every track. He had some that were panty droppers, but also some that were just good jams. btw his first 2 album were nominated for Grammy’s (according to Wikipedia Embrya lost out to Baduizm which is only right) and all 3 have gone plat.

As I respect yours, Tru. I get it, Maxwell is a sure fire way to get a chick to drop trou, but I just can’t get into his ish. If I want baby making music, I grab the OG’s, Marvin, Al, Prince, Teddy P, Kells. And if shorty wants something a bit more current, I have a pretty good “company” playlist with some D’Angelo, Tyrese, The Dream, Raheem DeVaughn, J. Holiday, Anthony Hamilton, & a little Ryan Leslie sprinkled in for good measure.
I see you Amp. lol You got a nice lil list there. I still rock the one from high school w/ a little H-Town, Silk, Marvin, Chico Debarge, Joe, Brian McKnight, Rome, Donnell Jones and other good ish. Maybe I’ll up a nice lil slow jam joint in a minute.
