TC faded me.
Out of all the things that blipped across Hip-Hop’s radar in 1998, he gave me the daunting task of speaking on “Ebonics.”
Remember the opening scene in ATL where the four main characters were sitting around, joking on each other’s slang?
How many times did you listen to it repeatedly within your first week of hearing it?
Does anyone outside of New York use “730″? Do New Yorkers even use “730″? “Bones”? “Ox”?
Remember when people did transition and start trying to call weed “La”?
Is it okay to still use “fly”?
Did L singlehandly change “flicks” to be non-nudity feature films instead of those VHS tapes you used to pass around your crew?
Could you imagine our world if Stuart Scott or White folks had really gotten ahold of & latched onto this song?

i love going to diff hoods and hearing they lingo and them reactin to ours esp the bitches you go somewhere other than atl and call a girl shawty and they trip lol
Dragon = bad breath
7:30 = me
Do people still say “fly”? Hellz yeah! I do! Fuck what other people say is en vogue and what’s played: if I say it, then it’s still in full effect mode! Word to tha mutha AND word life kid
Ha ha ha….Stuart Scott = white folks???? damn, that’s a cool as the other side of the pillow
vocabulary skills/ im ill!
Remember when niggas use to say 4:00 and 5:30 for soft niggas
Back in the 90′s there use to be a wide variety of slang. Now we all share bout the same 10 bland words like Swaaagg, what happened to our cultures creativity. What do we even call the cops now-a-days…..cops? Ugh, I might as well go work for Dunder Mifflin
Cats in St. Louis have some odd slang. I call my siblings, and they say some odd shit, like “Aww, you drove (stupid).” and “That had us buggin up (laughing).”
We still call cops ‘pigs’. It just works sooo well.
i’ve heard cops on law&order say 730. and not just jesse and s.epatha
’98 Primo remix and ain’t nothing different
I don’t kow what the hell niggas been snifin’
jus got bacc on TSS after missin wun day n sum excellent posts…GODDAMN!!!
ima youngn so wuts 730 mean?
@ old.sole
Listen to the song.
a deuce is a honey that’s ugly/ if ya girl’s fine she’s a dime…
u could always tell when slang had been played when u would hear it on shows like jenny jones…how many of yall rememba when everything was ‘da bomb’ or ‘off da chain’
i rememba hearin my aunt call sumtin ‘da bomb’ and then i was like ‘noway can i eva use that phrase again’
hot box, sweat box… when i worked in Manhattan from ’99-’00… Hit many hotbox clubs in the Village and Harlem.
took me forever to realize 7:30 was crazy… in Chicago, Crazy was “O.C.”–outta control. So I’d say “Guiliani is OC!” and dudes at work or wherever would think i was talking about O.C. and look at me sideways.
L was wild with it.
Sometimes you push the envelope, sometimes you just lick the edge… L did both.
thinkin’ of Big – L’s Ebonics
I was taking a class on Hip-Hop culture at the SRJC in santa rosa, CA. The teacher passed out a reader in the beginning of the semester. The reader also had 4 cd’s to listen to attached. Big L’s Ebonics some how made on this half ass hip-hop handbook. In the song description the teacher had written, basically the broad looked like a crack head from DC, she said there was nothing to say about Big L and that his career was ended abruptly due to his shooting death before he could blossom as an MC. She then went on to do a 2 page write up about Missy Elliot’s “Get Ya Freak On”….. I was thinking ain’t dat a bitch… Dude who was the lyrical assassin for 2 of NYC’s dopest super crews (coc & d.i.t.c.) gets shown no love but this phat ho who came in the game with a silver spoon (tim beats) gets mad love……
Needless to say I didn’t make it to this class very much, I was puffin’ LA in the hallways til’ I had dragon breath
^^^ lol i may be wrong but i think he says “lye” not “la”
730 is how they classify the “mentally disturbed” or “Crazies” in the NY State prison system.
@Sherm…
is you buggin’ man, when has lye ever been slang for weed. I’m on the west coast and we don’t even say “LA” but that’s definately what Big L was saying. He just slurs it to make it rhyme with pie.
Dog you been reading lyrics off of those faulty ass websites instead of analyzing the shit your self.
Check it, my weed smoke is my la
A ki of coke is a pie
When Im lifted, Im high
“smoky lye”
—Heltah Skeltah
@ black canseco – u kno what i’m tawmbout

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=lye
maybe i’m gurpin’, always thought it was la
Beatnuts Word Up Get hi hi high We puff la la la la la la la la la And we all just hi hi high We puff la la la la la la la la la Beatnuts get hi hi high
Sherm:
Yesssir!
Lye is that old chemical that burns your head as it straightens out your hair. So Lye as slang for weed makes sense even though it didn’t catch on in very many places.
Lye wasn’t big in Chicago but i heard a few cats use it here and there. Same in NYC… heard it on some Heltah Skeltah and even a Jay-Z joint… i think the Excuse Me Miss remix from like ’99…
Maybe Lye will come back, maybe not.
7:30 is also the curfew of R Kelly’s last 5 girlfriends
LOL
” wwwurbandictionarycom ??!?! ” getdafukkoutttaheeeeya
LMFAO @ Biggga
ive heard it called lye and la
“time goes by, puffin on LYE, hopin that it gets me high….”
