Somebody let Cory Gunz off his leash and that wolverine of a rapper absolutely tore up the first verse like it had just insulted his mother. He then quickly swept it’s bruised corpse under a rug and hopped off the track to look for a new beat to eat up as his cohort emerged.
It’s hard to question whether Cassidy has skills. But it isn’t that hard to question his consistency and his relevancy in today’s industry. He’s definitely marketable, but he may just need to eventually graduate from his crack and gun tales, and switch his flow up a tad. Not to say he didn’t beast on this song. But even the Cirque de Soleil can get boring after 3 encores if they don’t learn new tricks.
Maybe it’s just me. Peep for yourselves.

Cats hate on Fab, but dude’s been doing his Hovi-Jr. conversational-punchline flow to perfection. Like Cass and 99% of the emcees out Fab suffers from limited subject matter as much as anything.
As for Cory, I been checkin’ for dude since i first heard Pete up his kid in interviews. Maybe I was hoping for a trainwreck; you know the ones: Somebody brags on their baby as being the cutest thing to ever bless a womb but then you all see a little troll staggering up on you drooling thru a swiveling balloon-shape head and you just smile back thinking, “God don’t make ugly. He might make ‘confusing’, but He don’t make ugly.”
So when i hear a few freestyles, i was like, “dude’s fast.” Heard a few more and thought. Little whippersnapper might make it. But after hearing Cory’s The Apprentice series all I can say is dude is like AI’s rookie year:

He’s an uncoachable pinball that pushes it full-tilt, carrying left ‘n’ right; taking ridiculous shots, make just enough for you to tolerate the misses. But you’ll always wonder if he’ll ever switch it up enough to get that ring.
I’m still waiting for Jr. to give me 14 songs. I’d settle for a 6 song EP. They don’t have to be the standard 16-hook-16-hook… but gimme some songs. Gimme some subject matter, Cory. Didn’t your pops learn you nothing, son?
Maybe dude will get knocked around for a few more years and finally develop a rounded game, just out of a sense of survival if nothing else. Who knows. But I’m actually pullin’ for CG. Just like this Cassidy joint shows, if nothing else, bar-for-bar Cory can shoot with anybody.

Cass is raw, just needs to say eff all the split personalities & deliver a real reckless kinda album. No obvious concessions to radio, no “drink-n-my-2-step” type joints, just a gritty street album. Same with Fab. Too many singles geared at the ladies imo. Hopefully this new “movie inspired” album can allow him to focus & finally deliver an album that lives up to his obvious talent.
i doubt it tho.
Oh yeah, Cory is a beast! Still, I think he may fall victim to the curse of the mixtape rapper as well. Instead of always going back to that double time flow (which is impressive, when it manages to make sense), Jr. needs to refine other aspects of his style & thus far I’ve heard nothing in terms of real content. I still dig his stuff, he’s just gotta improve or at least make an attempt to show some depth or he’ll be on the mixtape circuit with Grafh, Papoose, & all the other rappers that are still trying to break through.
