As I write this, Usain Bolt of Jamaica is the proud owner of a gold medal in what was supposed to be a monumental showdown in the 100 meter dash. Tyson Gay, his main rival and also a gold medal favorite apparently deleted that email, not even qualifying for the final by placing 5th in his semifinal heat. Bolt won and in the process broke his own world record. But what should put the entire world of track and field in a frenzy is this…
He coasted.
When Bolt realized how far ahead of the pack he was with 30 meters to go, he SLOWED DOWN. And still broke the record (which was 9.72) with a time of 9.69. His own teammate, Asafa Powell, himself a former world record holder, broke down like an ’89 Hyundai and placed fifth. The win is big because a) Bolt is only 21 years old, b) he’s a freak of nature running that fast at 6’5 and c) he’s poised to be the first man since Carl Lewis to possibly win gold in both the 100M and the 200M. Even Michael Johnson was awed & he’s no elephant.
I know every Jamaican in the world right now has lost their minds. Count me as one of them.

I was at the Penn Relays this past April, and the Jamaicans were definitely in the house. For a few days all I say was a whole bunch of yellow, green, and black, lol. It seemed like every competing Jamaican athlete was accompanied by their immediate & extended family, lol
I watched Venus & Serena whoooooop some azz this morning to take the Gold……
The Penn Relays has always been the showcase of the Jamaicans, so thats no surprise. I meant to go last April but just didn’t. I did see the race @ Randalls Island in NYC.. so I knew Tyson Gay really didn’t have a shot – even @ 100%. Its crazy to read the interviews because he basically says. He didn’t run that race to break a record.. he ran to win.
As a former track runner (1500 and 3000 meters) I am here to tell you THAT SHIT IS COCKY. Gotta Luv it. I hope he can go sub 18 secs in the 200 which is his preferred race. This kid is yikes good.
Oh .. and having looked at the replays over and over.. that was a HORRIBLE start for him.

Usain Bolt is the man. The best moment so far in the Olympics. There’s nothing like the 100m final. To see who the fastest man in the world is. I’ve never seen a race like that before…That was just incredible. I’d like to see what he can do in the 200m. Can he break “The impossible WR record” set by Michael Johnson back in 1996? 19.32 is still the most incredible WR in Track and field.

The more I think about Phelps the more I’m not impressed. Yeah dude can swim, no doubting that, but people calling him the greatest olympian and athlete ever is ridiculous. Calling him the best swimmer I’m cool with. You think if Team USA BBall had the chance to win 8 medals they would lose a single one? Swimmers get so many chances to win a medal it’s nearly unfair to compare their medal count with someone in another sport. Besides the medley’s he only swam two different disciplines, and even in the medleys he did the other two for only 50 meters, ehh. Call me negative but dude is like the bronze medal of the games for me. Mr. Bolt and Team USA is where it’s at.
The announcer guy said he threw away a 9.59 and top speed of around 30 mph. It was funny watchin his interview right after cus he’s like, “I don’t care about the WR I just want the gold.” Well he got it.

Basketball is your sport. If you come second, or lose even ONE game on the way to coming first its a failure. There’s no highlight in just reaching your expectation.
BTW Team GB third in the medal table. Considering the size of Britain compared to China or Australia or USA, we are f*cking caning it.
