“You Only Rilin’ Me Up…” - Nas Challenges O’Reilly & Fox News
EDUTAINMENT By Devin Chanda on July 27, 2008 at 11:05 amAll the recent Nas talk is indicative of the fact that, here and now, Lil’ Homey has finally come of age. Because of Illmatic, Nas has been a fixture throughout hip-hop’s 90s transition from still-counterculture into full on-pop culture. Thus, after some detours along his personal path (i.e. the Escobar era), Jones has finally transformed from unassuming voice of the projects to outspoken voice of resistance for the mainstream. The co-sign alone from Colbert — a #1 in his own right — qualifies Nasir’s cultural significance.
Being a realist though, Nas’ challenge of a debate with Bill O’Reilly (and Fox News in general) just might accomplish, well, nothing. Even Carville-ian skills of argument may not be the Hanzo katana to cut through dude’s thick skin of ignorance and apparent close-mindedness. You see, when Billy Bias dismisses the Fox protesters as “Kool-Aid drinking zombies,” the level-headed agenda of Nas and friends is put into the same arena as that of brain-washed crazies. That Bill was the one to say that also lends undertones of racist stereotypes to the allusion. Add to that Bill’s statement that the media outlets that gave the protest coverage are “corrupt” suggests that there’s quite possibly no getting through to this guy.
Nas is doing the right thing but he just might be the little kid flailing away while the bigger bully Bill stands untouched, holding him at bay by the forehead.
On another note, though, sometimes, the only way to battle ignorance is with ignorance itself. Case in point, The Dips ftw.

my lord, I was hoping that Cam video would be forgotten forever…that video is like watching two blind kids argue over their favorite Picasso
pimpin and bitches… pimpin and bitches…
BO’R is so far up his own ass, that it’s a lost cause. has been.
as far as homie is concerned, he’s definitely gone full circle since illmatic, it’s clearly evident with this album.
Cam & Dame on there was some fuckin hilarity! lol.
You maaaaaadd! You maaaaaadd!
Straight clownin’.
O’Reilly, Oh really?
I went to the Boston rock the bells show yesterday, Nas had the best set hands down (followed closely by tribe). The crowd was kinda wack throughout the show, but once it got dark and the temperature dropped, Nas came on and did his thing. He did a few verses from like half of illmatic and other classics (got yo self, street dreams, message, made you look, etc….) and one of the best performances of one mic i’ve seen him do. only 3 new cuts from what i remember: sly fox, hero and black president. (although I was hopin for some queens get the money or testify) He talked about the Fox protests for a bit also. Anyways, you could clearly feel the emotion in the crowd, everyone was wilin out and havin a good time while he was on stage. Its ill to see him after so many years in the game still be so live and full of hip-hop.
Oh, and cam and dash on o’reilly is one of the funniest things i’ve ever seen. “you mad doggie! you maaaad”
its kind of hard for me to blame fox for all this propaganda and bill o reilly. this is bigger than all that. they have fucked up agendas and push it. its a business, straight up. there are zero standards.
its kinda like bush. people hate that dude, they think he’s evil as hell. maybe they’re right, maybe they’re wrong. but thats not the point.
the point is the vast majority of americans could give a shit. and those that do care, find the task of creating any sort of meaning full change overwhelming. i belong to the latter group. its fucked up and sad, but its true.
ultimately, props to nas for spending his energy hollerin at some real shit. (that colbert shit was dope as fuckkk) whats my point, i dont know
the 1st time i saw them on oreilly i thought it was a skit for SNL or some shit. bill oreilly is such an ignorant closed minded bigot.
This is 2008, not 1998. Fox News has been around for over ten years and just NOW Nas is getting around to calling them out? Oh and you say he also has a new album out at the same time? Now fukking convenient.
Nas is a great rapper. His latest album is a good album. But he sounds foolish.
Yeah Bush has been in office for nearly 8 years now. But how soon we forget that in the year 2000 everyone with a critical head on their shoulders was aware of how SIMILAR Gore and Bush were. Now we’re all being coerced into blaming everything on the Republicans and all those associated with them. Who benefits? The Democrats, who aren’t all that much different, when all’s said and done. It’s all a game of divide and conquer.
Acting like Fox News is far and away the ONLY news organization that’s deceitful and biased is beyond laughable. Yet Nas and so many others keep that narrow mindset. They love to have a single target to attack, ignoring the big picture. And the big picture is that ALL of our mainstream media is pretty much deceitful, not just Fox. Is Fox the WORST? Maybe so, sure. But it’s not the worst by a huge amount. Yet Fox is attacked like 50 times more than any other network. That’s just misdirction, folks. Same shit Bush did by blaming all our problems on terrorism in the Mid-East. People should be suspicious whenever they’re told to blame EVERYTHING on one source. But instead too many of us are all too happy to have a single source to hurl all our ire against. Yup, yup, what’s wrong with the news is mostly Fox’s fault…. yeah RIGHT. And what’s wrong with the world is mostly the fault of arabs…. yeah, yeah, sure. Same sort of misdirection in both cases. Wake up, people. I know it feels good to call Bill O’Reilly a racist, and maybe he is, but that fact doesn’t justify the bigger problem with the deceitful “news” media in general.
fuck o’reilly
*watches o’reilly response to Nas’s protest”
only in America where people can talk like o’reilly and get paid.dude probably enjoys pushing buttons because he gets ratings/money from it. almighty dollar > everything else

@ adfas
Since when did Nas, or anybody say that Fox and O’Reilly were the ONLY ones to scream on?
I keep hearing people say Nas called out Fox News and company to get attention for his album. What? Like the homies were gonna RUSH to the store because they heard Nas is dissing Fox News and Bill O’Reilly. They been hating on rappers over there for a minute. Give me one example where they ever said anything positive about rappers or Hiphop over there.
Even Luda and Snoop made a song about O’Reilly’s hoe ass, and that was a few years ago pimp.
