Yesterday, the NY Daily News put out an celebratory article on 50 Cent’s clean drug test. Yes, Hip-Hop is infamous for its weed habits (Snoop), pill/cough syrup binges (‘Lil Wayne) and an occasional mushroom (Eminem) or five. But you have to admit – when are rappers praised for being good?
The test was issued by the Long Island (NY) courts in order for Curtis to take his 11-year-old son with him on vacation. As 50 does not have full custody, this test was conducted to ensure his baby moms – Shaniqua Tompkins that he was fit. Ironically Tompkins was also tested and her results were positive for opiates. I’m not a 50 groupie by any means, but you have to give it up to the guy for keeping clean for the seed.

He said something to the affect of I write a song about smoking because ppl can relate I dont smoke though but the people that buy my albums do.
No surprise. 50′s never been a smoker. Thats why I thought High All The Time was a funny track. It was up there with Jay saying he only puffs once in a blue when theres nothing to do..I don’t believe it..I dont think Jay puffs ever.
why the F should we give it up to him for being drug free?
there are millions of people in the world who dont partake in substances. they should put out a congrats to them, or every addict who is in recovery for fighting that ish day/day.
PS-it’s not that hard to cheat a drug test.

When you think about it, Curtis Jackson is really just a square who sold drugs and decide to become a rapper. This is the guy that is considered the “bully” in the industry? Maybe most of these rappers really are soft.

What’s worse is what does this say about how folks see us (Black Men) when this sort of thing is news? Similar to criminal behavior it’s a sad commentary, that we’re so associated with this crap that we have to brag about not doing it.
Ever hear John Mayer or Brad Pitt or Calvin Klein brag about passing a drug test?
Only junkies, alcoholics and Black Men have to draw attention to their sobriety.
I don’t think the purpose of this piece is to celebrate him being drug free….rather shine a positive light on rappers (we never see that)..especially one trying to be a father to his kid….

Dude could take like 10 bong hits before the test and pass, the lower your body fat % the easier it is for you to pass.

i dont necessarily think its a bad thing for a rapper to be praised for not smoking or doing drugs, that stuff is all over in the industry, and for dudes like lupe fiasco to not smoke, drink, or mess around with groupies is admirable

yall are all tripping that this is news…this is a rapper whose made a career going around yapping about “being shot 9 times” and being gangster and a pimp…shit look at 3/4 of his discography, i shouldnt even have to name titles of songs.
Do history and facts prove that most popular rappers smoke and drink? hell yeah they do…most of em do it in their music videos, concerts, and in public…even some of em get arrested for it (DMX, Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne, etc). So when one of the biggest rappers in the world, ie: 50 cent, is put in the spotlight for a custody case over his kid and he tests negative for drugs. Hell yeah that is newsworthy.
You all should be complaining that another rapper arrested for drugs or gun charges shouldnt be newsworthy cuz that shit happens a lot more than this! phewwww
