“The video was powerful and the song is powerful.”
I think the videos boring and the track is far from powerful. Most ppl already know all news channels are bias and theres alot of misinformation out there. What did Nas say that was powerful? And if u don’t think the average person is aware of this then u need to start giving ppl alittle more credit.
“If Nas hate Fox so much, then why does he have a MySpace page?”
I always wondered if Nas just smokes way too much weed or what cause reading his interviews I notice hes constantly contradicting himself. I don’t want to call him a hyprocrite but he seems all over the place with what he preaches, believes, and practices. And I’m not saying that cause he has a myspace page but the point is why did he even put that in the song. Fox owns Myspace…and?

nedia, media… who’s counting.
To say Fox and that brand of media isn’t affecting ppl is ludicrous. Rush Limbaugh just signed a 400 million dollar contract over 8 years to just TALK right wing politics on the radio. Imagine how much influence a TV network has if Limbaugh is getting paid that much. Besides, the song wasn’t JUST speaking to black folks, and I know for a fact plenty of ethnicities tune in faithfully to Fox News.

Fox is a broadcasting company. If the ratings are good then they will air it. If theres money in it then they will buy it. Are u saying Myspace is to blame for the predators? Cmon! I don’t like to use this term too loosely, but that’s “hatin’”.
Of course it’s completely fair to feel how you feel how you feel about it, and critique it all you want, but you seem to keep implying that it’s a worthless track.

i used to watch the sly fox religiously… it was my default channel… if nothing was on tv, i was watching fox news… i watched oreilly on the regular… i went to sleep with fox news on…
but then the nas/va tech issue came up… i was watching oreilly blast “nazz” because of his gun charge… knowing oreilly’s views on hip-hop, i wasn’t surprised by his stance…
but what bothered me the most about the segment was the guest who was supposed to be defending nas… this was the guy who was supposed to be representing me, you, and all the “hip-hoppers” out there… but the mutha fucka was pronouncing nas’s name the same way oreilly was- “nazz”!!! this is how i came to find out the fraud that fox news is… they couldn’t even find a guest who could pronounce nas’s name correctly?!! the whole thing looked like a fucking set up to let oreilly win the debate!!!
i haven’t watched the sly fox since that day… fuck fox news…

and just think: back in the day, Fox went up against The Big 3 Networks (NBC, CBS, & ABC) and got its start establishing its presence on TV with help from The Simpsons, America’s Most Wanted, COPS, In Living Color, 21 Jump Street, & The Tracey Ullman Show…
some of those programs were seemingly innocuous, and some of them were racy, but still had our support out the gate ’cause they were the underdogs

As far as his animosity towards the Rev, well that isn’t even completely unwarranted. Before his recent slip of the toungue, some folks already saw Jesse as nothing but an opportunist. There’s NOTHING new about many folks dissatisfaction with Jesse.
Quoted from Time.com:
“When King was shot and killed on a motel balcony in Memphis, Jackson was standing below in a courtyard. Somehow he managed to end up with King’s blood smeared over his shirt. Early the next morning, Jackson turned up 500 miles away on television in Chicago still wearing the bloodied shirt and implying he had held the dying King in his arms. His behavior horrified King’s lieutenants, who viewed it as profound opportunism. Coretta King could barely conceal her disgust, and for years she would not even speak to Jackson.”
I am not here to try to “make” you like a song or insist that you do…
“And if u don’t think the average person is aware of this then u need to start giving ppl alittle more credit.”
I just find it odd that you would take such an elitist stance and discredit its’ value altogether by insinuating that none of these knuckleheaded kids or the adults who may or may not have properly raised them can’t benefit from a song, or songs like this…
If we ALREADY KNEW the in’s and out’s of what was going on around us our incarceration rate would probably be lower, our graduation rates would be higher, we’d have lower rates of AIDS and HIV, and drug abuse and etc etc…
WHO are all of these ppl who “already know” when we have nothing short of a pandemic of ills that continue plague our respective communities???

anytime i give people credit, they just showcase their lack of inteligence and common sense to make me wish i had neva given them that benefit of the doubt.
And if u don’t think the average person is aware of this then u need to start giving ppl alittle more credit.
****************
We’re gonna give the ppl some credit just as soon as we finish leaning wit it and “Supermaning” a few female associates. Plus I can’t go anywhere before I get my bejeweled codeine pimp cup back from Big Sam & Lil’ Bo.
“If Nas hate Fox so much, then why does he have a MySpace page?”
^ lol
and if we should boycott Fox, why do we support anything Rawkus related…? lol
*runs & takes cover behind K’s ass*
(not sayin’ K’s butt is big, but it is nice & I’d like to live there forever if I was miniaturized)
I figured not everyone would agree that the average person isn’t a complete idiot but my point was that the lyrics aren’t that informative and it doesn’t take three verses to make a point to beware (or be aware) of the lies in the media.
“Heh-heh!” – Beavis

when did black folks start watching Fox News? let alone actually let it effect their decision making and view of the world around them?
***************************
Fox/Sly Fox is a metaphor for the media in general, so in that regard, YES, black folks let the nedia affect their decision making.
nedia, media… who’s counting.
I’d also like to take cover behind K’s….um, never mind… no vacancy.
I doubt a brother went and said, “Is Obama Black enough?”
Some ignorant fascist thought that up and said that is on TV. The media ran with it. It goes with every aspect. Remember the steroids thing? They were ready to crusify Bonds. But wow, 25% of the league used them.
Iran. Hasn’t done anything but study nuclear power. America flexs our nuclear weapson. It’s cool. Isreal does some flight tests with their whole squad, and that was cool. Iran turned on their non-nuclear missle silo, and the world is in outrage. It’s messed up. The media really gets you amped for the wrong reasons sometimes.
oh yeah, and signing bonuses of over 100 million….
how could I forget a measly 100 million?
I Wiki’d Beavis and found this:
Mike Judge once said in an interview that Beavis “is a zero” when it comes to intelligence; indeed, Beavis is often oblivious to the obvious.
Nas made “Sly Fox” for the Beavis’s of the hip-hop world.
Us older cats knew the deal from 21 Jump Street when Chuck said Don’t Believe The Hype
fox news is one of those entities that most people know is horribly biased and idiotic, but nobody (outside of the daily show or kieth olbermann) ever really points it out…i give nas props for putting a clever spin on the issue and possibly educating some people who weren’t aware of the issue….
also, i commented on K on last night’s post but some hater left my comment off lol…so here goes again “i said got-damn, got-damn, GOT-Damn!!!”
oh yeah, and have yall been bumpin that new Killer Mike joint…ooh wee i can’t take that shit outta my cd player i’m afraid i might burn my fingertips…best cd so far this year IMHO
Nas made “Sly Fox” for the Beavis’s of the hip-hop world.

LMFAO!!
I just had a WOOOOooooow moment…………………………
The more I listen too the “Untitled” album the more I think it will have too be explained too the younger generation, and thats scary too me. Really, there is a message in this entire album/videos( thus far) and I hope and pray people will listen and capture it. Take time too listen folks, it’s deeper than the visage.
But again I think TSS for being different and providing a stage for opinions and explanations, however, we have a long way too go.
Y do u think the lady in green shirt is smiling in the end?
why do u ^^ use ‘too’ in place of ‘to’?
some sorta hidden meaning?
@ Nina
Considering a vast majority of the music and messages sent through “mainstream” artists that are considered “hiphop” in the media, I find it strange that you discredit this video by Nas.
I got family that are still young (and watching 106th & Park everyday), but they are old enough to recognize Nas’ music. If this is something that nobody else is doing and he brings it to the table, why belittle it?
LMAO @ Wit-E
aj shoots….
he scores….
If this is something that nobody else is doing and he brings it to the table, why belittle it?
====================================
That’s the big question! We want to crucify somebody for pointing out flaws, because we are too scared to face the truth. Why can’t we embrace change and positivity? Shit, I just graduated high school with a 3.1 GPA and now I got a lil scholarship money for college and niggas hating on me cuz I’m smart. Make me not wanna be smart no mo. lol

My bad, I meant niggas.
on a sidenote:
anyone ever notice how talking heads always mispronounce Black folks names?
like Nas, they say it with a short “at” sound…
and Evander Holyfield, Larry Merchant always says “Holly”-field
motherfuck them and John Wayne
it just always seemed intentional on their part to not dignify people of color by not pronouncing names properly
Anglicization is a bitch

Y ofcourse sir replace (too) with———–
“The more I listen excessively(too), the album “Untitled” the more I think it will have(too) also be explained to a fault(too) the younger generation, and thats scary as well (too) “”………………… “” Take time aside(too) listen folks, it’s deeper than the facial expression.
Really not complicated, a friend of mine does it all the time in teaching makes the children use their vocabulary-haha
try it sometime it works…
look: He references MySpace because they run the show To Catch a Predator, but where do they meet… on MySpace.
He isn’t blasting the site, just the fact that MySpace provides a good majority of the predators they catch.
“screw them ninas!!!”
Lmao!
Sorry if anyone thinks that just because I don’t personally think Sly Fox is a powerful and deep track that I’m trying to “belittle” Nas.
I think its humorous that some think its “powerful” and “deeper than the visage” (lmao) and then others think its for the “Beavis’s of the hip hop world” and the young kids who watch 106th and park. Guess its so deep its for all of the above?
Again I’m not trying to belittle Nas but I find the track boring. And for those who think its powerful I think besides being boring its also uninformative and long winded.
“He references MySpace because they run the show To Catch a Predator, but where do they meet… on MySpace.”
wow…damn…
See? informative.
Man, Doug… glad you cleared the “heir” with that information.
I didn’t even catch that one.
“look: He references MySpace because they run the show To Catch a Predator, but where do they meet… on MySpace.”
@M.Z,
“they run the show” I don’t get the point your trying to make. “they run the show” Who? NBC airs that show not Fox. And even if Fox did I still wouldn’t see the connection. Fox is a broadcasting company. If the ratings are good then they will air it. If theres money in it then they will buy it. Are u saying Myspace is to blame for the predators? Cmon! And I’ve only seem that show once but if I’m not mistaken they use chat rooms not myspace. Please don’t try to make a connection where there isn’t one.
we are the choir that Nas is preaching to.
so, some of us may find “Sly Fox” boring…kinda like attending Remedial Tell-A-Lie-Vision 101
just let it be, even if it doesn’t move you…it may move someone else….Artists like Nas, Ice Cube, Killer Mike, Immortal Technique, David Banner, & NY Oil need to provide a counterbalance to the bullshit outside of AND inside of rap
why undermine men who are taking an anti-establishment stance?
@ Nina
I mean damned if you do, damn if you don’t…
when Nas was in the club w/ Ginuwine, cats said that was hollow, when he says something of real substance (that is obvious to YOU, myself and a few others), you shit on his song & video w/o regard to the positivity of his efforts.
Then you say you’re not trying to “belittle” anything he’s attempting to do w/ the song.
I don’t like to use this term too loosely, but that’s “hatin’”.
Of course it’s completely fair to feel how you feel how you feel about it, and critique it all you want, but you seem to keep implying that it’s a worthless track.
To that, I remember what I know about the conditions of po’ folk and society in general, and I say, “Really?”…
“Most of my hero’s don’t appear on no stamp” wasn’t the most eloquent, Michael Eric Dyson-esque thing to say either, but it still resonated.
this is the epitome of shooting the messenger…
@OED,
I’m not gonna say anymore cause I don’t hate on Nas and not trying to “shit on his song”. Smh @ that shit.
And as far as ppl sayin his track with Ginuwine was hollow I think “owe me back like 40 acres to blacks” is deeper and more memorable than any line in Sly Fox.
@ Nina – Fox owns or “controls” NBC, Bravo, Discovery, & a host of other channels. Wait til the Olympics when they use all of them to broadcast the games.
Yeah they use “chat rooms,” but when have you ever been to http://www.chatroom.com? Be it MySpace, Yahoo, or whatever they (Fox/Murdoch’s holdings) provide the net they use to catch the predators.
Do all the one’s they catch come from their sites?
No, but some do. I’m not exaggerating anything. Just clarifying what your critical analysis skills couldn’t figure out.
* we can go til you get it in your brain *
I think “owe me back like 40 acres to blacks” is deeper and more memorable than any line in Sly Fox.

why undermine men who are taking an anti-establishment stance?
============================================
I try to avoid calling people the “H” word, but that’s all I was asking!!! I’m wasn’t blown away by the production on the song either, but the verses were immaculate and just so happen to have SUBSTANCE. I’m trying to figure out how you could diss something like that without being considered a “hater” of some sorts?
“I’m not exaggerating anything. Just clarifying what your critical analysis skills couldn’t figure out.”
@M.Z,
My “critical analysis skills” (I like to just say my critical thinking) allows me to understand there is no real connection between the two. Both could, can, and will exist without the other. Your trying to make a connection where there isn’t one. Maybe give your critical analysis skills a break. Maybe you’ve been working them too hard.
“* we can go til you get it in your brain *”
No thank you.
They do & can exsist w/o each other, but they also exsist with each other as well.
But your right, its not smart to waste your time on a closed mind.
I think “owe me back like 40 acres to blacks” is deeper and more memorable than any line in Sly Fox.

Wow”
Wow is not me saying one line in one song was more memorable than any lines in another song. I didn’t say one track was better than the other. Get over it. And instead of wow u could have quoted a line in Sly Fox that stands out to you. Its all personal opinion and preference. What speaks to one person or moves one person doesn’t always have the same effect on another person.
Wow is Nas saying that people no longer need “old heads” like Jesse Jackson cause now people have David Banner and Young Jeezy..thats wow.
no solidarity amongst have-nots is wow.
Jesse undermining Barack is wow.
I’M not placing all my faith in music as a tool for change, nor am I idolizing David Banner, or Obama for that matter
what do you expect from rap? just rhyming words for the sake of it? sick wordplay? braggadocio? another catchy how-to instructional song with a built-in dance to accompany it?
The Me-Me shit is cool, but impeding progress isn’t
would you be happy if Nas did his version of Maybach Music?
All and all, the video is very good.
Spin:You refer to MySpace and the New York Post in that song. It sounds like you did some fact-checking on Rupert Murdoch’s corporate holdings. Was that a matter of knowing thy enemy?
Nas: Yeah, if you’re gonna get into it with Fox News, then you gotta know about who owns it. Rupert Murdoch is a great business guy, and some of his shows are entertaining as hell.
I find it ironic that Nas makes a song like Sly Fox and then allows the media airing one comment that should have NEVER been aired turn into fuck Jesse Jackson. Its unbelievable.
Jesse Jackson is no Al Sharpton. Maybe Nas has the two confused.
Jesse should have kept his damn mouth shut.
Jesse should have never gone on Fox.
Did he not know they willfully exploit any opportunity to throw salt in the game?
There’s 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter, and that bullshit is inexcusable. If/when and after Obama is elected (God willing), maybe he can be forgiven
“If/when and after Obama is elected (God willing), maybe he can be forgiven”
I don’t think any voters are going to change their vote because of one remark Jesse Jackson made. People should ignore it and keep it moving and not make statements like the one Nas made.
This is more than Fox, its every news channel, its all propaganda!! The media is ran by the larger powers that be & the larger power knows majority of the world is plugged in sheep. Thats why I keep up with celebs on TMZ because with all the cameras in their face its the lesser of all that other bullshit lying to you through news & papers.
i used to watch the sly fox religiously… it was my default channel… if nothing was on tv, i was watching fox news… i watched oreilly on the regular… i went to sleep with fox news on…
but then the nas/va tech issue came up… i was watching oreilly blast “nazz” because of his gun charge… knowing oreilly’s views on hip-hop, i wasn’t surprised by his stance…
but what bothered me the most about the segment was the guest who was supposed to be defending nas… this was the guy who was supposed to be representing me, you, and all the “hip-hoppers” out there… but the mutha fucka was pronouncing nas’s name the same way oreilly was- “nazz”!!! this is how i came to find out the fraud that fox news is… they couldn’t even find a guest who could pronounce nas’s name correctly?!! the whole thing looked like a fucking set up to let oreilly win the debate!!!
i haven’t watched the sly fox since that day… fuck fox news…
and just think: back in the day, Fox went up against The Big 3 Networks (NBC, CBS, & ABC) and got its start establishing its presence on TV with help from The Simpsons, America’s Most Wanted, COPS, In Living Color, 21 Jump Street, & The Tracey Ullman Show…
some of those programs were seemingly innocuous, and some of them were racy, but still had our support out the gate ’cause they were the underdogs
now look where Fox is
I think we all need to go back and analyze ‘God Son’ imo, thats where nas began to focus on major issues, he always had an intelligent/informative upbringing but on ‘God Son’ that NIGGA really started to prove his stance on critical situation, maybe because he had to watch his momz die, he killed jay on every other track and what did jay do? He goes out and sign NAS…Damn how could i not remember this disc word for word…
Nina, I left you in your place with your opinions…
“Its all personal opinion and preference.” -You
“Of course it’s completely fair to feel how you feel how you feel about it” – Me
Let me have my “Wow” mean exactly what it means to me…
Wow…. meaning NO I will NOT take one damn near throw away line from Nas used a “club song” w/ Ginuwine and reference it to detract from an entire focused body of work….

What types of songs do we need more of?
“What speaks to one person or moves one person doesn’t always have the same effect on another person.”
If you can say that, how can you say from where you sit, that this Sly Fox song will or won’t benefit other folks not named Nina?
I thought Google owned Youtube.
I thought Google owned Youtube.
Nas sets himself up for thse kinds of criticisms. Maybe he should look into titling his next album “thought provoking music”…instead of Nigger.
yeah at true type
I was hoping the video had more in it. At least the end was worthy. But Rik relied on too many clips when there should have been an actual story/idea to it. I like Nas’ direction though: 1 commercial video and 2 underground/internet vids.
NEXT UP: Queens Get That Money!!!
anyone have an accapella of nigger untitled?
