“More Dreams Deferred…” - Obama, Ludacris & Hip-Hop
AUDIO By Gotty™ on July 31, 2008 at 11:02 amWe posted the track a few days ago but with recent events, I figure some of you wanted to backtrack & listen to it.
On Wednesday (July 30), Obama’s press representative responded to the freestyle, saying, “As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism and degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to. This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual, he should be ashamed of these lyrics.”
I’m not sure what the fuss is about. Contraâ„¢ warned that Obama was gonna have to play the game & that’s for sure what we’re seeing here. It’s not like I was expecting to hear Barack jump on the remix, doing ad-libs or no shit.
Even though his team publicly denounced the track, it’s been previously reported that Luda’s music has been found on the nominee’s iPod. I’ll place a bet saying Barack is like most of us & prolly cues this shit up real loud in the mornings while he’s brushing his teeth or fucks around and listens to it before one of the upcoming debates.
Because I don’t care what his camp says, I can see him prancing around in the wifebeater like DJay, shouting out the lyrics.

Politicians are involved in politics, therefore they HAVE to be political and play bullshit ass games that they don’t necessarily want to. Mofos have to appease the folks on the left and the right…and as much as Obama is deified by our community, understand he’s a POLITICIAN and with that we have to understand that dude is gonna have to backtrack on a few things here and there.
But let’s not forget that he’s from the Southside of the Chi…and you know we don’t make too many pussies on this side, so let’s not question his genuineness too often before he smacks us with a wing from Harold’s or some shit.

I’m laughing picturing Obama on a plane with headphones on and singing:
“we love that c-c-c-c-cut up, you know we like to get that cut up, freaky thangs, we be bout get that cut up”
I’m so far from questioning the movie. I think anyone & everyone in hip-hop knows it’s what was expected given the circumstances & office he’s runnin for. I aint saying “I agree” but I surely understand.
I could go for some Harold’s right about now. Actually any day of the week. Gonna be a nigga death. Rubbing that suntan lotion all over her body. Like Italians with the tomatoe pasta.
LMAO @ myself

Damn, is Obama gonna have to respond to everything rappers say?
Should McCain have to backpedal and apologize about everything these talk radio suckers have to say about Obama?
if artists truly want to help barack, they won’t do things that are going to provide his opponent material to use against him. hip-hop wields a lot of influence, and that pic + speaking out against those names don’t really help his cause. people that don’t “get it” might hear that and equate barack with the ignorance that we’ve become accustomed to.
luda’s free to rap on whatever he wants to, of course, but let’s be sensible…this cat’s running for president of the united states, not the sweet valley high student body. sure, he might have some luda in his iPod, but he also might be looking at this situation like, “damn nigga…you can’t keep your mouth shut for another 100 days?”
in the end, though, it’s probably not that big of a deal.
Lol, same thing I was thinking. He’s not runnin for class president. He’s runnin for President. I know aggins is happy but we gotta chill, like I say “we got company over.”
And yeah O will have to speak just like McCain will & politicians always will, no matter if they might condone it behind closed doors. No candidate wants to be assoc w/anything negative, word to Swift Boat
the song bangs.

I hate to be that guy that says “I told you so”…..
haha…”we got company over.” exactly. and in this case, cats need to be seen and not heard…preferably seen somewhere urging young brothers and sisters aged 18-25 to get out and vote. luda’s a good dude, so i’m sure he’s doing his thing, but this wasn’t the best look.
“and now i gotta turn my back on you.” (c) paulie cicero
Barack has to win the White House first.
Make these kind of songs AFTER he’s won.
Making them during the race only HINDERS his campaign.
You now white folk don’t want a militant black man in the White House. He’s worked very hard to appeal to both sides, can we as black people PLEASE not fuck that up for him?
Thanks.
Barack has the world under his spell.

“But let’s not forget that he’s from the Southside of the Chi”
–
Dude is from Kansas, then went to Indonesia, then Hawaii, THEN Chicago…as a teacher. Not bread in the Chi… But I digress. he’s still a Chi-man.
@ Wit-E
hahahahahahahaha
For a split second I thought maybe you found some new hotness…I threw up in my mouth a little
for real tho, there’s a dude with a mic… he’s a “celebrity”…so what?…and he has sumn to say that’s considered a little “extra” on a freestyle???…
This is media-worthy?
Obama needed to give them one swift “go head wit that”, and kept it moving….
If MC So-And-So wakes up, scratches his nuts and decides he wants to turn on the mic in his basement and “freestyle” some shit with Obama and McCain’s name in it, so the fcuk what…
The owners of Honda should not have to respond to the media at large because some 18 year-old in Camden or rich kids son from the ‘burbs decided to trick out his Civic into an eyesore…
Man, they were on MSNBC quoting Luda talkin about painting the white house black. On national television at 7:30 pm! Man I was so pissed. Imagine what FOX news will do with that. It plays right into the perception they have been trying to perpetuate since he put his name in the race.
Got up this morning and the bitter Hilary supporters were getting their bullshit started too. Demanding that Barrack demand an apology from Luda on behalf of McCain and Hilary.
This is the last thing Barrack needs top be dealing with right now.
Major fuckup on Luda’s part. The best thing he can do is apologize and dissappear till mid November. Fuck his mixtape and his album. That fool is on my shit list.
He hasnt made shit dope since the second LP anyway.
Is McCain denouncing the death threats that YOU KNOW Obama’s gotten up to this point?
Nah, the mofo sits back and smirks…
…and for real, best believe there’s a redneck band (or 500) in some place like Sweet Cheeks, Louisiana with a song floating ’round talkin’ ’bout, “Yeah, do what Jesse said, cut his nuts off…and when your done vote for McCain” …
I haven’t heard a peep from McCain to denounce anything like this, just like the public at large prolly never heard a peep from, let alone HEARD OF Loooda.
I think America could respect Obama saying, “Step the fcuk off with that sh*t”.
If McCain isn’t saying anything, its probably because he is trying not to draw attention to it. We all saw how much trouble Hillary Clinton got herself into when she talked about the JFK assassination that day, and since McCain is behind in all the major polls, he doesn’t need any more negative attention than what he is getting right now.
On that note, Luda can’t get mad about what Obama says, because he’s been in the business long enough to know that’s how the game is played. He really should’ve waited until the first Wednesday in November.
oed:
the public knows who luda is…he has a very high profile, much more so than those people you’re suggesting who might be singing out against barack.
and i get what you saying, but still…this is a matter of keeping our own yard clean.
if something of this magnitude were to come out that might put mccain in a negative light, trust me, he would have something to say about it. this is american politics, after all, and public perception is very important. to barack’s credit, he’s not dealing under the table as much as the other camp, but only time will tell how long that lasts.
o.e.d the thing is dat the america that woud respect that is the america that prolly wont vote
It dont matter whether they have heard of luda before. they are about to hear of him. The media is listening to all the old Luda albums as we speak counting up the cuss words and nigga referrences to be played back on tonights news. All of which will now be associated with Obama. fair or not.
This campaign isnt about mccain and what he is or isnt doing. its about Obama. And this is just one more excuse for them to disregard hos candidacy, without a fair shake.
Note to luda: SHUT THE FUCK UP UNTIL THE RACE IS OVER.
thank you,
tss
let’s not forget McCain’s connection to the Hip Hop world: he did approach Young Jeezy when they were on SNL together.
Politic as usual,
Hip-Hop as necessary !
(but let’s drop his next album…)
Tss is global.
@ darius…u right homie…but we’ve been claiming him so we’ll keep claiming him right back. but if anyone from kansas, indonesia or hawaii wants to claim him as well…feel free. it’s enough of dude to go around (no homo)
He Chicago well, I must add.
After reading a few (10+) sites, most are applauding Obama for “slamming” Luda, as they put it. This might help Obama with his image, after all. It’s all about the kids.
*He reps Chicago well.
This is my thing with all of this, Luda is LOOODA to us. We’re hip-hop fans. To some middle-aged couple he’s just a black dude in a movie besides the main character.
So Obama comes out and slams Luda for exercising his freedom of speech….OK, fine, but the danger of this is the fact that once you start entertaining this type of “non-news”, Obama will have to KEEP entertaining this type of “non-news”, and that’s going to ultimately distract him from presenting his real points to the American public.
It was Rev Wright one week Jesse the other, and now Looda…
Who’s next???
Mofo’s aren’t going to stop speaking just b/c O’s running for office. That’s just unrealistic.
It’s hard to throw a punch backpedaling, and by addressing these types of things continually, TO ME, that appears to be what he’s doing.
good point OED,
you made it a number times in this post and I hear ya dawg. But with the media these days is all about that faux news, I think its been that way since Regan came in as a “cowboy”…Billy Clint was playing the sax while bitches asked him questions like “boxers or briefs”!
YES WE CAN !!!
“CHANGE THE WORLD” ….
THEY SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
…
In God’S son We Trust !
Help.In.Pledge.Huge.On.Pledge
I understand everyone’s points, although I’m with OED on this. I think it was a mistake for his campaign to address this. How many times has Obama been mentioned in rap lyrics? I’m not counting but quite a number. How many people really would have heard this track before the statement? And after? Didn’t he just create a PR issue? Perhaps if the media found it themselves and he was asked for an opinion, then he should say something, otherwise I think it was him that shoulda shut the fuck up.
Shots at Luda? For speaking his mind? Freedom of speech, Hip-Hop? pfft.
We got company?, lol. I understand ur concept, but getting a group of people to agree on anything as a unified front, na. Everyone’s gotta different take. Shit, cats on TSS agree to disagree all the time.
new az mixtape (rather) split up:

Who didnt see this coming…
http://talkmobucks.com/2008/07/fox-news-on-ludacris/
The sad things is that people actually mistake Fox News for a fair, legitimate, and factually accurate news source. As irrelevant as this issue should be there will be people who will not vote for Obama because of stupid things like this (albeit they probably would not have voted for him anyways).
I definitely understand why this has happened. Its kind of like the whole Batman thing. If anyone saw Dark Knight you know what i mean. Batman did all the dirty work but was considered a vigilantly, having taken the law into his own hands. This made him an outlaw… same damn thing, Luda, on the low, fucked around and helped Obama, but to appease, he has to damn near denounce the brother… Politics, this shit is more like a circus if you ask me.
who knows. personally i think obama likes the song. but odds are hes not gonna admit that while the cameras are on cause thatll just give him a bad name and ppl would be hatin on him n shit. he probly told luda he likes it when the cameras were off or sum shit and odds are he probly likes the lyrics too cuz that shits all true. bush is mentally handicap and mccain agrees with bush 98% of the time. hillary, idk bout her but shes stupid as hell like bush n mccain. GO OBAMA AND LUDACRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
