Nothing tests my love for Hip-Hop like a long ass road trip.

There’s only so much I can take in a 16 hour drive before I start to detest any collection of rhyming words. I just threw the iPod on random and about 9 hours in, each song started to run together and my eyes got heavy even while I was reciting the words to “Ghost Deini” (proving that I can in fact recite rap to Supreme Clientele in my sleep).

Then I got my wake-up call.

First, it was the bass line.

Duh duh duh duh…

Followed by the opening words…

Smoke sumtin Bitch!”

“Get Throwed” is one of those timeless rider songs. From the first riffs, I crane my neck up, give out that “oooh shit” and prepare myself for four minutes of pure dirty south-ness. You can feel the 98 degree heat, syrupy yams and Colt 45 dripping from the speakers.

The song has some strong verses from Jeezy and Jigga. But it’s UGK who truly make this song their own.

From the first lines: “Pimp C P.A. trill nigga!/ Polo fuck that Hilfigga,” Pimp C comes in with a hard-hitting verses while simultaneously putting the final nail in the coffin of any Hilfiger acceptability.

Bun follows with an ill double timed verse reminiscent of his show-stealing delivery on “Big Pimpin.” Jeezy and Jay come through with some stellar verses (not to mention Jeezy’s adlibs on the hook). But the Texas duo really dominate the track.

“Get Throwed” single-handedly re-energized my road trip and reminded me why I loved this song so much.

R.I.P. Pimp C.
