DJ Semi And The Notorious B.I.G.- Ready To Die The O.G. Edition
GENERAL By Gotty™ on July 31, 2008 at 9:50 amClipped from the release notes…
The Mixtape Marvel is back with another collectors edition mix. ‘Ready to Die: The O.G. Edition’ is a must-own for fans of hip-hops legend, Biggie Smalls. The 1994 debut album from the Brooklyn rapper is considered a classic not only in rap, but in all of music. The ‘O.G. Edition’ gives you the album in it’s ORIGINAL, UNCENSORED form… and even tosses in a few NEVER BEFORE HEARD gems including an unreleased freestyle B.I.G. recorded for Pepsi. Experience the album the way Biggie wanted you to (*in high quality*), before sample clearances and label executives got in the way. Many thought this material was long lost, never to be heard again… but the Mixtape Marvel delivers!

Best way to start a Thursday morning at work.
Anyone notice any differences?
I agree with Wordsmith. I have been pumping this in the lab all morning.
As for TC’s question, there are a number of differences, although there a handful of tracks that have remained unchanged (Things Done Changed, Warning, Friend Of Mine) and some tracks are simply remixed versions (Juicy). Some of the more glaring differences have to do with uncleared samples (Ready To Die, Me & My Bitch), others have to do with original, unedited vocal takes as evidenced on “The What” and “Gimme The Loots”
Although a lot of these tracks have already been spread around the internet, they’ve been spread in the form of terrible quality mixtape and radio rips. For example, I’ve only ever heard the Primo version of “Machine Gun Funk” as ripped from a tape of the CM Famalam Show on 89tec9, so you get shout outs to Lord Sear and Jean Grae sprinkled amidst Biggie’s lyrical spray.
I definitely have to give Semi props for finding this / putting this together. The quality is remarkable, so I’m guessing that he stumbled across an original masters tape from the recording sessions or something of the like. Oslo, he never once shouts out his name or screams “exclusive!!” like Smooth Denali did on that “Still King Of NY” tape.
Perpetuate this joint. Share it with fellow rap nerds. Jam it out in the dorm room. People definitely need to hear what might have been instead of what was.
By the way, I’m totally excluding the bonus tracks in my above “analysis”…because “Biggie Got The Hype Shit” was definitely ripped from someone’s tape of a Hot97 radio show from five or six years ago.
Could sum1 resend it to me, possibly zshare, I cant get it to open
I had to shorten the name of it to get it to open properly. you may try that.
That cover gives me the creeps.
AGHHHH!!!! Its not workin, Anybody…..Anybody?
This sounds like one of my old Biggie demo tapes. It’s missing a few “original” tracks (the joint with Onyx and Treach comes to mind) but other than that, it’s ok. The other version of “Me & My B***h” on the Bad Boy sampler from ‘94 is the better version.
thats the same version from the demo tape.
this shit bangs hard.
I read that biggie secretly couldnt stand craig mack on the low….I heards that big was pissed he didnt get the flava in ya ear beat first.
DOPE!!!
Track - can you shoot me that “Me & My…” or post it here?
I was watching “The Wackness” the other day and this is exactly what it had me fiendin’ for, some new/old unreleased Biggie.
@Thug I was thinkin the same thing.
