Last Saturday in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquiao effortlessly grabbed the Lightweight title from a thrashed David Diaz with a 9th round KO. “Pac-Man” as Pacquiao is known by dominatiated the squared circle, becoming the first Asian fighter, moreover, Filipino to become champ in four different weight classes.
For the record, I’m Filipino.
As I watched packed in my momma’s house with my cousins all riled up and influenced by a little of the “sauce,” catch phrases from the flick, “The Goonies” sprang up, referencing David Diaz face. “Heyyy you Guys!” and “Rocky Road” became the cat cries of my cousins and I as we clapped voraciously. We acted like we were in Vegas live. When you rep a country that gets as much sports press as a mechanical bunny in a dog race, small beams of light such as Pacquiao become amplified. Dramatic prose aside, he in fact does represent a whole nation and people every time he puts his custom Nike boxing boots on the canvas.
So yes I will gloat like a teen bitch when receiving her first Louis Vuitton tote bag.

NO DOUBT… Pac Man is the baddest boxer out there. With Floyd duckin Cotto, the crown has to go to Pacquiao. Cotto and Margarito is gonna be heat rocks!!!

Filipino pride, stand up. Pacman eats muhfuckas up with a quickness. I would have loved to see him vs. Mayweather. The speed in that would have been bananas. Even though I’d say Mayweather has more power, definitely more reach, I still think Pacquiao is faster.
But this possible fight against Ricky Hatton should be interesting. While Pac is clearly faster, Hatton is clearly stronger. But I guess you gotta hit someone first to hurt them, and a lot of people have failed at that.

If you haven’t seen fight, the post fight interviews with Diaz are hilarious. He’s a stand up dude cursing like a drunken sailor while still giving it up to Pac-Man after losing his belt.
