“A warrior walk alone
It’s one spot on his throne
Fake friends be off and on
But a man stands up on his own
I’m raised by a different code
Cut from a different cloth
Never been a follower
My mama told me to be a boss
Watch who you hang around
Don’t let nobody bring you down
Friends come and go like seasons, leaves turn to brown
And some only come around when everything is green
Be careful not to let a snake infiltrate your team
For every Jesus there’s a Judas
Every Caesar there’s a Brutus
If someone tells you to jump off a bridge, are you gon’ do it?
There’s two types of influence: either healthy or deadly
Keep your circle small and away from all the hate and the envy
Don’t come nowhere near me with it, I’m bullshit intolerant
My politic boss up, BE YOU black empowerment
I stay in my element, braveheart intelligent
Only associate with those for my betterment
I’m out for dead presidents to represent mines
Only click with my kind
My best friend is my grind
Everybody got big dreams, but few follow through
And it’s deep that the company you keep become a part of you
Don’t just be sitting round smoking weed, letting time fly
If your homies don’t inspire you to rise, tell’em bye
You better off dolo then rollin’ with a weak ass crew
I’m like Scarface, Who I trust? – Me, that’s who.”
Nas hooked up with stic.man on his latest mixtape to dole out some more of that RBG philosophy while speaking on the company one keeps. Stic keeps it simple while breaking down the pros & cons of standing alone vs. staying with a crew that’s holding you back. He also reminds us that while Nas has recently focused on this brand of rap, he’s been doing it for years and will continue for his duration in the game.
Nas Feat. Stic.Man – “Association”

Ironically, the song sampled for the beat “Gimme some of that good ol’ Love” (dont know if thats the actual title) was used by Jermaine Dupri’s intro to the album 1472. That intro was fused to a song called “Turn it Out” featuring Nas.
Through thick and thin, from beginning to the end
Never do I lose, all I do is win
Cause Queens Bridge is in the house
This is Nas Escobar and I turns it out
Who remembers that! LOL
Stic is the REAL DEAL….
I remember b/c Nas tombstoned his appearance on that album, which had a whole lotta bangers on it.
Yeah, I reviewed that a while ago:

That’s Al Green, I think.
That song with Joel Ortiz is sick too. J.O.’s word play is so amazing to me. Like, for real, B.I.G.
stic.man’s album is pretty serious too. I highly recommend that one. I would even buy a copy (gasp) if i could find it in a store.
“The hoochies please Gs/by getting on they knees/giving the body part the Scarecrow needs.”
haha
PS. Might one of you gentlemen have the Killer Mike EP Skulls and Roses on hand?
Gotty whats good with some Killer Mike shots? It would be an appropriate time with the new album on the way.
Off topic, but anyone know where I can get a link to see the new movie “Wanted”… James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and Common?

Guess who he’s going at! Bout fucking time!
Damn you Greums! jk
^ lol
I was about to post that joint too, but I saw Greums already had it up.
I actually like this track. The beat is simple, but lyrically its got a lot of depth. With this joint, “Hero” and that “Fried Chicken” joint, NaS may be 3 for 6 right now. He needs to at least come in at 80% IMO.
Gotty got both of ya’ll. He posted it in the last post lol
everything was blurry at first but now shit is moving in slow motion

but maybe not or a pre-tracklist cuz no The Fear aNd no What It Is (esco let’s go), so !.?
Nas 3/6???
JW – you know the standing rule for artists who show us true respect – they give to us & we give it back by not posting their shit w/o permission. And since Mike hits the comments every now & then, can’t really step on his toes nahmean.
It’s a tie b/w Nas o the Roc song on that JD album.
JO’s verse on Nas’ tape was too lyrical lol. I was just listening to his “90′s Free Agent Freesrtyle” & “Brooklyn Summer”. Between those 3 tracks, it’s just crazy how descriptive he is & slides in just the right amount of words w/each bar.
This song is a gem!
Wow! I really liked the song, especially the lyrics..
Intelligent rhyming, suprised me a bit coming outta the mouth of this black racist..
TADA??
^ That’s confusing.
Did you write first AND second sentence?
Why does Nas always try to act like he intelligent?
He never impressed me with his let-us-try-to-uplift-our-people-Oochie-Wally-Wally-knowledge..
just, krs one give him a tribute…
probably cuz nas is one of the greatest ! no?
out.
peace.

I always figured that “Oochie Wally” came at a time where NaS’ insecurities got the best of him… not saying that in his defense, but for the most part, all of his material has been along the same lines accept for a very small number of songs. You’re entitled to your own opinion though.
C’mon now D… You got the boy Nasir’s album being dissected on a numerical scale???
=======================================
Believe it or not my dude, I do this with any artist that holds merit in the industry. If you put out good material, you should always work to keep it that way. Artists slip every now and then, or sometimes put out material that we the general public maybe aren’t ready for (happens to the best of them), but they should generally improve with every project, or at least stay on the same level IMO.
Stic. is dope!! When the eff are we getting a new dead prez album?
they should generally improve with every project, or at least stay on the same level IMO.
=====================================
That’s the main criteria on how I rate an album. An artist is supposed to keep elevating their craft or at the very least stay consistent, but even that’s only good for 1 or 2 more albums. “Hero” grew on me once I heard the cdq version a couple times. Some of the joints I’ve heard definitely sound like Nas is focused, but others just didn’t work for me, conceptually or production wise. 3 for 6.
Who’s got that “Fried Chicken” cdq?
Cocaino rap music !
@ Doug
I hear you as far as the improvement with each album, but in the itunes, zshare era I think we sometimes get a little too carried away with that at times…
Lemme give you an example off the top….
Low End Theory
Dope album/Classic album, right? (Claasic IMO)
Put that in today’s era, and say….” What?” leaks to the internet…. then “Skypager”…. then “Everything Is Fair”….
We’d all be saying things like, “good, but needs more”. Certainly not many would be thinking a classic album could come of this, BUT when you hear these songs in the context of the album, they all serve a purpose.
Sh*t, you could do that with a group like Earth Wind & Fire on pretty much any of their albums…
To loosely paraphrase Flea, I think sometimes we get a little TOO critical and loose sight of the enjoyment that comes from just listening.

*throws hands in the air and walks backwards*
Some of the songs I’ve heard, namely “Hero”, “N.I.G.G.E.R.”, “Fried Chicken” & the new one “Sly Fox” are dope joints. For me, guess that makes it…4 for 6 being that “Be A Nigger Too” & “Black President” are the only other songs I’ve heard (though that roach song sounds horrible. He’ll have to do for roaches what He did for guns with “I Gave You Power).
album will be ill !
don’t worry… check the tracklist !
and add The Fear joint and the real version about Esco let’s go too

Isn’t that a fact at this point that AG is a classic?
“Esco Let’s Go” = 5 for 7
@ Amp
I loathe the word thanx to even a Carpet company calling their new line of rugs “classic.” But on that scale, yeah it measures @ the top.
He’ll have to do for roaches what He did for guns with “I Gave You Power

All those in favor…. say “Aye”
@ OED
I see what you’re saying… I wouldn’t make a final judgement on any album without listening to it in full context though…
Unless you count (insert wack album here) and (insert wack album here), which would have to be the two worst albums of 2008 thus far.
Funny, I heard (insert wack album here) and (insert wack album here), and would have to agree w/you. lol
god damn, that was hot. i should check for stic.man more often, feeling ashamed to say i’m sleeping on him right now.
nice post
