This isn’t just aimed at Obie. No he’s not the first and he’s damn sure not the last.

The industry isn’t the NBA. So when you hear an artist boasting about their free agency, it’s never a good thing. I can never understand what certain artists look to accomplish by going for dolo when their claim to fame is association with the ship they abandoned and especially when they have an entire discography dedicated to expressing their loyalty in verse. Their story is always the same as well: “They didn’t promote my album right” or “We released the wrong single.” But that’s not song they were singing prior to the album’s release. It’s usually like this as well: “We went in 110%” or “Everybody is happy with the product.”

I’m sure they were.

And there’s been instances before where established rappers such as Ice Cube and The Game went on to paying the bills themselves. (Do I really need to follow up on that statement? Nah! Let’s move on).

So yeah, Obie announced his candidacy to be put on the long list of artists eligible for another Nas “Where Are They Now Remix” (Headstrong Edition). Think of that dude from Nappy Roots, a good chunk of the DTP artists, Rampage rounding up the Flipmode Squad and starting his own “FMS” movement. Two albums in and it’s YOUR fault for not securing a fanbase when the label allowed you to do the music you felt comfortable with. The split’s details are a little sketchy but I’m sure the fans would rather see Obie on stage with Eminem than at a show of his own.

Expect a “Obie’s Free” mixtape of some sort and then watch his ass get right back on the bench.
