Perez Hilton is going to war.

Not to Iraq or any where else overseas, but with Sony/BMG & their artists. Turns out the label is suing him for streaming songs that happened to be by Brittany Spears. Not put them up for download but just by streaming them.

“When these songs first leaked, there was a lot of doubt as to whether they were Britney or a fake. Plus, we never made any music downloadable. Every time we saw a take-down notice from the R.I.A.A., we complied immediately. By the way, no one at Sony BMG ever contacted us about Britney. Also, every song we posted – not knowing if it was or wasn’t an authentic Spears song – had already been all over the internet and fansites, yet PerezHilton.com is the only entity being sued by Sony BMG” Hilton said.

So to fight back, Hilton is boycotting all Sony/BMG artists and will not discuss them on his site. These artists include: Tori Amos, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, The Gossip, Adele, Lil’ Mama, Pink, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Whitney Houston and more. While these artists and/or Perez may not mean much to everyone here, Perez is considered an opinion leader to some & he could have some effect on the people who frequent his site.

“We KNOW that our support can help their artists, some of our favorites, immensely. We hope alienating us was worth it for Sony BMG! Every other label out there wants to have us as a friend. It really makes us question the business practices of Sony BMG that they would rather have Perez as an enemy” said Hilton.

With a fledging label of his own with Warner Brothers & tons of appearances on television & radio, Perez Hilton obviously isn’t just someone blogging from his mother’s basement. Whether this leads to anything or not, it can’t be smart on Sony’s part to alienate the few people who are supporting their music & buying it in the first place.
